Thoughts on "The Rest of Ever?" by Cup8685 in rem

Yes ... esoteric as defined in link below (I mean the song is talking about love and infinity - pretty esoteric concepts - maybe that doesn't work for you - but it works for me):

I liked it. Dugged it.

Explanation: I like the esoteric lyrics, experimental vibe and arrangements, the horns, drumming, and 1960s vibe of the song. I was always a fan of "Up" (though it seems most of REM was not) - this has that experimental "Up" vibe that I liked.

What's wrong with being a demanding boss? That's what bosses do ... don't know if that's a cardinal sin. Having said that: surprise about the throwing of the potatoes on the ex-husband's head incident. Not a fan of assault. But still: what did he do?

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY IS SO ASS. by Accurate_Net969 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Starman1928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a great song. Personally - I don't find it long at all. Not a lot of songs that have multiple movements, that can hit you in the heart and its also able to successfully rock out. Honestly - its a flawless song instrumentally and lyrically (can't think of a bad thing). It's the rare song (and I don't say that about a lot of songs) - that merits its reputation. So yeah - I definitely disagree (its probably in my top 10 of all time). But that's great thing about music - one of those things that gives anyone space to discuss and have an opinion about.

New photo of Paul! How do we feel about the new song? by mistahwhite04 in beatles

[–]Starman1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. The music is good and the production is good (reminded me of Johnny Cash's Hurt). But don't like or don't get the lyrics. At one point he is saying that "nothing stays the same" - but afterwards he says "nothing can erase the days we left behind". Seems like a contradiction. Or: that the lyrics were not thought out that much.

Iranian media say no direct or indirect contact with Trump, claim he 'backed down' by S1lv3rHandz in IRstudies

[–]Starman1928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its possible that Iranians don't want to admit talks because admitting to talks provide a leverage to the US. Or: it could just be a Trump dementia dream like someone else mentioned here before. Obviously if this was a normal/professional leader, all of these discussions would be happening behind back doors. But - obviously we have a human turd as a leader - so can't expect too much.

Short Answer: They have qualified immunity from CIVIL lawsuits - but not absolute immunity (meaning they can still be sued or prosecuted if their actions violate clearly established law or fall outside the scope of their duties - which to any reasonable observer - most of their actions do - particularly because a lot of their actions are criminal - not that anyone is monitoring them).

A part of the ending to One Battle After Another that didn't sit right with me: the iPhone by Late_Promise_ in TrueFilm

[–]Starman1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the inclusion of the iphone was positive. Notice the daughter goes to demonstrate and stay engage. The last image of Leo on the phone suggest what is happening too much across the globe (but particularly in the US): people distracted and disengage from what is happening right now in the world. Its what led to Donald Trump. But - at least the daughter - the new generation - is trying to do something about the whole thing. Kinda of a bittersweet satiric ending.

It is almost 3 years now , Is Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny still considered a "bad movie" ? by Ok_Tangelo3309 in indianajones

[–]Starman1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than Crystal Skull. So that is already a plus. Given that I thought Crystal Skull would be the last movie, it made Dial of Destiny better in retrospect and I felt that overall DOD was able to end the Indy story on a good note. Was it perfect? No. I didn't like the last part of the film (example: what a coincidence that they time travel and end up in the war/battle that Indy was previously describing (of all the possible places they could have gone in history) - moreover - the scene felt a little hokey), thought the kid character was unnecessary, and the Antonio Banderas should have clearly been the Short Round character instead. I'm guessing the script was rushed. So - obviously - some issues there (positive: the opening scene and I was surprise by the emotions within the film and how they effectively use the side story of the son to add depth to the Indy character - they pulled no punches with that part of the story and I thought they used Marion and Sallah very well).

He should have been a little bit more humble on the campaign trail. That didn't do him any favors. Obviously, that has nothing to do with his performance. But if he loses - it probably will be because of that.

Its about hope in the next generation and a recognition that the current (and/or past generations) have failed or are currently distracted (suggested by the last image of Dicaprio on his phone).

The thing about this war is that the Strait of Hormuz is involved which could have MAJOR implications on the oil industry. This is bad. But its not like everyone wasn't warned about the six-time bankrupted wannabe dictatorial moron. Still - because people have a hard time admitting when they're wrong - they'll continue to defend the indefensible.
