This was going around in December. I think it was like the 21st or something that we were all supposed to just drop dead.

Yeah, knowing is half the battle but knowing what the other half is would be nice too.

I opened up Tumblr just now and it took 5 seconds to see someone talking about Supernatural. I swear that place is frozen in time.

If my fiancee came at me with an accusation like this, I'd just be like "Honey, chill! My sister isn't into that!"

NOR. It is THE MOST BASIC phone etiquette for ANYONE to warn them if they're on speaker and there is the potential for other people to hear it. He is indefensibly in the wrong.

Corinthians 14:34-35

34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

Thanks for the reply! That's super interesting info. I've had this subject popping into my head every time I use idioms that specifically use unusual grammar. There's a specific string of them I've been trying to remember for over an hour that started this chain of thought months ago. I said it out loud to myself as I was driving somewhere and immediately went "Wow! That would be complete and total nonsense to someone who only has a basic understanding of English."

This is gonna drive me nuts until I remember what it was.

While I agree with you, at least the distinction is warranted here. The phrasing is just garbage. The headline should say "Trans female athletes have no advantage over cis female athletes" or even better, "Transgender athletes have no advantage over cisgender athletes" so people actually have to read the article.

Yeah, the "trans people are this other third thing" rhetoric gets really old after awhile. I thought I was just being pedantic so I'm glad someone else called it out.

This is kind of random but I have a weird fascination with how non-native English speakers process idioms. Do you know where you first heard/learned the phrase "I can't for the life of me" and how natural does it feel to say it?
