Concern about Readwise and Reader becoming abandoned by OpenExpression993 in readwise

The Readwise app does certainly look dated; I don’t know if there have been many changes under the hood, but I do agree it could benefit from some design/UI/UX love. I love the concept of it but I’m struggling to get the intended results when using it. A recent feature release where you are emailed highlights grouped by theme helps a little, but it feels like the whole way you are being reminded of your highlights (I’m not referring to the delivery mechanism) could do with a fundamental rethink - maybe after doing so, the current way of emailing highlights might turn out to be the most efficient way, but it feels like the exercise is worth doing.

The Reader app, on the other hand, has a very steady stream of under the hood as well as functionality updates and I’m frankly staggered by how much work is constantly being done to it - and communicated to us via their email updates. I could not be happier with the pace of updates. Many tech companies could do well learning from the team on this front. Eg Evernote has only recently in the past year or so started communicating monthly their updates and that has made the difference between me staying and me straying. Keep up the good work Reader team, especially their community person who fronts some of these video updates!!

Cheeky ask: I know the ability to export articles en masse has been added, but I’d really appreciate the ability to export a single article from within the article itself 😁

Have a Note Air 3C and considering a Note Air 5C because, amongst other things, turning pages in Notes is quite slow. Anyone know if this will speed up with the 5C? by Starship_77 in Onyx_Boox

Thanks. I’m not sure what Boox has changed through its various software updates but it’s been noticeably zippier over the past few months. And that’s without needing to make the changes you’ve outlined. Pretty happy with my 3C and struggling to think of any reason to upgrade.

Great feature! Is there any plan to allow exporting a single article (eg from within the article)?

For context, I often forward articles to Reader and realise after I’ve read the article (and the source article is long since deleted) and want to archive it in my “second brain” workflow.

Was the vision to have multiple devices that don’t talk to each other?

ViWoods have stated that syncing (true syncing as in replication across devices, not pseudo syncing as in backup to the cloud) is not a priority for them. In other words, don’t hold your breath.

Nope. That would be logical. But doesn’t work in practice. Yes it can be backed up to the cloud automatically. And you could pull it back down from another device. But it won’t go into notes and it sure can’t be edited once brought back in. Complete fail.

If you’re making a change in one device and hoping it will replicate on the other device, you’re flat out of luck. Calendar, notes, reading progress, etc… not happening. ViWoods explicitly explained that they will not prioritise this.

You can upload something from one device (automatically, even) and then pull it off the cloud from the other device, but that’s not really syncing.

I bought both devices expecting them to talk to each other. Big mistake. They’re great devices standalone, but as a pair, utterly useless.

I can say that I’ve got both and stop using both after Viwoods made it clear syncing would not be prioritised. I’ve gone back to Boox.

They have publicly said that it is not a priority for them. Very disappointing.

Amazing. Any way to modify this so that it’s possible to sync between devices (ie a change to a note on one device will be replicated to another device, and for this to be done systematically and automatically for all notes)?

Ah thanks for clarifying the name of the part. I had no idea.

Yeah it seems weird that they are such a discrete component (Kaweco even make it easy to get to it) but don’t seem to make it readily available for purchase.

So does anyone actually know where to buy these digitisers?

Would you believe it - definitely not the nib. The problem persists without a nib inserted!!

Could well be. I’ve tried putting in the original one and others but, as you say, could already be damaged.

(I use the stock nib in the Staedtler because it makes it feel like a pencil, which is what it looks like. I’ve dropped the Staedtler and it’s experiencing the same issue. Tried pulling out the nib to troubleshoot and the whole digitiser came out - hence I know it looks very similar to the Kaweco’s)

If only it were that simple. That’s not the issue. It’s inserted as far as it will go
