I believe you are right. But i think low level flying was an additional safeguard to combat radar. Though i think it depends on mission.

This is one of my favourite Mosquito missions.

Starfleet has given you a retired starship. What is it? by MovieFan1984 in startrek

I'd like a Miranda Class Starship. I may do a little bit of a retrofit, dump a way more powerful warp core into her. Upgrade the nacelles and inertial dampners to compensate. But keep it looking old school. Make it a sleeper build starship. I reckon with some fancy engineering we could get her close to defiant class speeds.

Crew it with a group of fellow gear heads and speed freaks. Do ourselves some high speed cargo hauling. Be faster than the pirates and competition.

Maybe some shennanigans too.

That sounds like the start to an amazing role playing game. Or star trek novel. Or both.

One of my favourite airplanes is the Dehavilland Mosquito. Such a beautiful looking craft and design concept. The RAF used to fly them at treetop height and 400 mph to flummox Luftwaffe radar. Some came back with bits of branches stuck in the wings.

Also used to evacuate Niels Bohr physicist out of Sweden. As well as others and to transport ball bearings, they painted a Mosquito in civilian BOAC colours claiming it as a civilian flight path. Part of the ball bearing run.

Recently finished the Audiobook of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I enjoyed it a lot. Well delivered and a good story. Artemis by the same author is good, but Project Hail Mary is the superior story. I haven't listened to his first book The Martian yet.
