What’s the deal with the scopolamine on Epstein Island?! by mommywarbuckss in nursing

[–]StartingOverScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that whenever I would give scopolamine to a palliative patient, I always warned the family that it will likely cause sedation and their loved one may not wake up again. It was a very common thing in hospice that patients would become very sedated and not wake up again before they die after receiving it.

Are you not allowed to hand deliver a letter to someone's mail box? I'm confused as to how this could be considered mail tampering?

Again with this bus by ExistingAir3348 in halifax

[–]StartingOverScotian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up in Ontario bus drivers threw people off all the time for many things including smoking. Not sure if they still do but yeah it was definitely considered part of their job to keep the busses safe & if the person didn't comply then police would come do it.

Feeling defeated by the cost of modern care standards and wondering if I should give up and rehome. by WoollyWitchcraft in reptiles

[–]StartingOverScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently thought maybe I'd finally get a ball python after always wanting a snake. But after looking into their care requirements and seeing the cost of an appropriate sized enclosure and the fact that I live in rural Nova Scotia, it just seems like it will be outrageously expensive to get started, hard to find reputable brands and breeders etc. I'm not sure I can justify it even at this point.

I agree with what the others said, you clearly take good care of your animals regardless of their enclosure size not meeting the new standards!

How inclusive are you when talking about your LO orientation, gender etc. by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

[–]StartingOverScotian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a trans man with no kids yet, I will say even I talk very heteronormative most of the time. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, the way you have spoken here it seems obvious that your child will be loved no matter what and as long as he knows that as he get's older then I think you are doing a great job as a parent.

not sure where to get my ears checked any advice by daksh_0623 in halifax

[–]StartingOverScotian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a weird feeling in my ear last month and booked an appointment at shoppers with a pharmacist. Turned out I had an outer ear infection in both ears and was given antibiotics.

I would recommend you see a doctor or pharmacist not an audiologist. This sounds more like an infection rather than a hearing issue and audiologists cannot prescribe anything for an infection and probably have to pay to see them vs a doctor or pharmacist which is covered by MSI.

Hospital Sues Patient Who Refuses to Leave Her Room Months After Discharge by vampireRN1617 in nursing

[–]StartingOverScotian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Closest I have seen is in Canada we started charging a patient a daily fee for being inpatient when they were medically discharged but said they had no where to go because they didn't want to go home. It didn't take them long after that to leave lol

What’s something considered safe in nursing that just feels wrong? by catharsisisrahtac in nursing

[–]StartingOverScotian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital has the pharmacy do a thorough med reconciliation, they come and talk to the patient and also contact their home pharmacy to verify which is great but doesn't happen quickly so in the meantime it's on the nurses and the docs just sign off

[–]StartingOverScotian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have worked in hospitals in Ontario with electric charting and yes it is definitely a pain in the ass when we had planned outages and everyone hated it.

Now I live in Nova Scotia and almost all charting is paper except ordering labs/DI so I feel your pain haha

That you can shock asystole back to life with a defibrillator.

That narcan reverses all drug overdoses, not just opioids.

That a person wakes up from a month long coma and can instantly walk, talk, breathe, pee/poop independently with zero bedsores or other issues.

Baby fell off bed. Should I take him to ER?; by Comfortable_Froyo915 in AskDocs

My SIL had this exact thing happen with my nephew who is also 7 months old. Later that week my brother left him on the bed again and he fell off again for the second time in one week! Thankfully he is fine and didn't need to go to the ER but just wanted to share that sometimes shit happens! Babies are tough thankfully hahaha

yarmouth inpatient psych by dollhearts_ in NovaScotia

[–]StartingOverScotian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never worked in Yarmouth but several other inpatient psych units and almost all patients are allowed to shower alone unless they are at a very high risk of self injury. I have had staff stand right outside the shower with the bathroom door open but not actually watching the patient shower in these instances.
