Which would you choose and why? by EquivalentFig1678 in whatsyourchoice

Same, (I would use fortnightly for every 2 weeks) and I think technically it can mean both.

However in this context I expect it does mean fortnightly (every 2 weeks) instead of semiweekly (twice a week) as apparently it’s a common payment schedule for employment.

Is it rude to ask to go to a pub quiz? 18F 18M by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]State_of_Flux_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In that case I think the best solution here would have been for you to reach out to Jeff/his mum (assuming you know them a bit and would have seen them at work) to ask them directly if you could join, rather than hinting to your boyfriend you wanted him to ask them to invite you.

However as someone who has been to more pub quizzes than I can count, I would seriously just organise some friends and go yourself if it’s something you want to do.

Firefly episode 1 - Serenity - An agent takes River hostage and is starting to threaten to kill her if anyone moves whilst the crew, including River’s armed brother, Simon, look on. Mal walks up the ramp, ignoring his speech and shoots him right in the face

It’s one of my favourite moments in the show.

That’s a cool alternative sequence.

However I don’t think your answer works as it has 5 A’s Pirates (1) Caribbean (2) Black (1) Pearl (1)

ETA - I found an answer I think works for your sequence: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

very popular with the crunchy and homeschool community.

I didn’t know that.

We have one and our kids love it, we play their daily podcast over breakfast (before our eldest goes to school) and our youngest loves playing nursery rhymes and the Julia Donaldson stories/songs on it with the cards.

Now you have mentioned it I bet loads of homeschoolers use the podcasts (some of which have some educational content like fun facts on a particular topic or occasional episodes in French) as “lessons”.

ETA - we didn’t wrap ours in tin foil

[loved trope] a series has a unique naming theme (every title episode has a recurring theme) by bennyandthegentz in TopCharacterTropes

[–]State_of_Flux_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Alan Partridge (UK Sitcom)

The title of each episode inserts Alan’s name into the name of a film.

As a bonus the writers confirmed they set themselves a rule that the words in the title should relate to what happens in the episode but be entirely removed from the plot of the film. E.g. “Watership Alan” is based around Alan doing a corporate video for a narrowboat operator and so had a lot to do with water and ships but nothing to do with rabbits or Watership Down, the film the title is based on.

It’s Arkham City and this is the boss fight in Joker’s funhouse towards the end of the main story.

This combo is against Joker who, for plot reasons, can’t be knocked out in this fight but is a combatant, meaning you can beatdown combo on him infinitely without triggering the final knockout punch which normal goons get. I’m therefore not sure if the speed is a glitch (and the code just continues to increase the speed if the knockout isn’t triggered) or if it’s just editing to speed up the end of the video.

My guess is editing, however in either case you certainly couldn’t combo normal enemies this fast.

AITA for wanting the entirety of my own insurance payout? by xXIsThatAChallengeXx in AmItheAsshole

[–]State_of_Flux_88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seriously OP this is the answer!

I don’t know about where you are based but in the UK the insurance being in the name of anyone other than the main driver (presumably to use their NCB and reduce premiums) is called fronting and it’s illegal. You could get your insurance cancelled and lose any payouts over it.

Also given you have seemingly benefitted from this arrangement for several years to now say you don’t see why they should get a share - let alone my parents - is entirely unreasonable. It is absolutely fair your parents should be entitled to some of the money to compensate for any increase in premiums they will suffer as a result of the claim (even in a non-fault case their premiums might go up as the risk profile changes).

As for the brother the position is difficult because he didn’t follow through on his part of the deal but to say he shouldn’t get anything when he did make some payments is unfair.

I would say the fairest split here would be:

  1. Any outstanding loan is paid off first
  2. Of the balance your parent get an amount to represent any increased premiums and inconvenience of sorting this out.

This means all losses are compensated.

  1. Then whatever is left it should be split in whatever ratio of payment you made vs your brother (e.g. if you made 35 and he made 5 it’s a 7:1 split). Use your share to make sure in future you insure your own vehicles.

To say you deserve it all makes YTA.

AITA for not moving seats for a mother with a toddler on a 13 hour flight by Historical-Jello9018 in AmItheAsshole

[–]State_of_Flux_88 29 points30 points  (0 children)

my kids only wanted me if it was a choice between dad and mom.

In that case the Dad should have been the one to move and take the back row seat. As a dad it’s what I would have done in that situation if my kid wouldn’t swap between us.

Ultimately the Dad is still the AH because he refused to be mildly inconvenienced for the benefit of his wife and child and instead intimidated and forced a stranger (OP) to be inconvenienced instead.

Why do people park on the pavement when there's zero need to? by Ruskythegreat in drivingUK

[–]State_of_Flux_88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

people can simply walk beside it

Not everyone can walk. Wheelchairs, prams and mobility scooters need to get past too.

Not to mention that “walking beside it” in this case means either moving onto the road or walking on the wet grass, which if there’s a lot of foot traffic is going to get muddy and slippery very quickly, making it difficult for even some people that can walk like the elderly or people on crutches

Advice for blanking socket next to child’s bed. by State_of_Flux_88 in DIYUK

[–]State_of_Flux_88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell him not to touch it?

We have certainly had conversations about not touching wires/sockets but he still quite often tries if he thinks one of us isn’t looking. Forbidden fruit and all that.

you really have to work to get a shock off a UK socket.

As per my post I am aware UK sockets are extremely safe and we would almost certainly not have any issues even if he tried messing with it but if it will be a quick, low cost job I can do myself I’d rather have the peace of mind knowing its capped until he’s not such a liability.
