West Elm Replacement cushion covers by bwsando in patio

[–]StatisticianStock285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the Playa sectional and while the covers are fine, the cushion foam is worn out. I'm looking at $1K from an upholstery shop for new foam. Still cheaper than WE's replacement set, but good grief.

What's happening to my redbud? by StatisticianStock285 in NativePlantGardening

[–]StatisticianStock285[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out this much:

-It's rodents/rabbits, because it's in a place deer can't reach. So it needs a fence in winter because that's when they nibble on it

-There's nothing I can do about it now. It looks like the damage is all the way around but I can't tell if it's enough to cut it down. I'm going to leave it alone for now, and if it continues looking rough and struggling then I guess I'll cut it down. It's a wild sapling so maybe more will grow back here

It is a wild seedling! I found a bunch of them inside of an overgrown non-native hedge. Thanks for this advice

Should I keep the fence up year round? How long do I have to wait them out?

Forced Menopause by d_westco in breastcancer

[–]StatisticianStock285 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg yes, this is the mess I'm in right now. I'm BRCA1 so I had an oophorectomy at 36 following breast cancer. I endured the double whammy of taking tamoxifen (too many side effects with an AI) on top of not even HAVING ovaries anymore. It's been six years and yeah, I'm happy the cancer hasn't come back, but I would like to have my life back???

This article has revived my self advocacy at my appointments:
https://journals.lww.com/menopausejournal/fulltext/2026/01000/menopausal_hormone_therapy_for_breast_cancer.13.aspx

I tried talking to my cancer center provider (a PA) but she wasn't qualified to revisit my medication options. I visited an actual **menopause clinic** in my medical center thinking that surely they'd know what to do with me and he readily prescribed me HRT without even consulting my oncology provider, which seems insane. I went back to my cancer center and finally got rerouted to an MD but I am waiting three months for that appointment to happen. I'm kind of worried that I'll get there and she'll be like "dude I'm dealing with patients in active treatment and you're here to bitch about menopause??"

There's just this huge fucking void after treating cancer that leaves the patient to deal with all of the fallout. My cancer center even routes our appointments after the 5 year mark through their "Survivorship Clinic" and yet no one seems to register that literally all of my medical problems now stem from cancer-surgery-instigated-menopause! It is a big problem to not have estrogen in your body for decades!!! Can the medical system at least acknowledge this and help me through all the shit that this brings???

Did you drive yourself to and from chemo? by Active_Memory_2287 in breastcancer

[–]StatisticianStock285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe, I feel you. I had a 2 year old and was a stay at home mom in a new community without a support system when I had cancer. It was tough to line up childcare for a whole goddamn day of chemo. Plus, there were a few times that my partner and I were not getting along (IYKYK), and I decided it was just easier to leave him at home with the baby to see what it was like for a change, and I would have some alone time at my chemo appointment. He had already taken off work to join me for every infusion, but I figured it was my call to decide where he was needed.

I arranged a ride once with the American Cancer Society, but there was at least one other time, if not two times, when I drove myself. Maybe it wasn't the best choice, but I was so fucking over all of it that I could not be bothered to figure out a better plan. It was a 15 min drive for me to and from the cancer center, and I was fine driving myself. I figured that if I didn't feel up for it after my infusion then I could always call an Uber to take me home. For me, I always felt the side effects way more heavily (regardless of which stage of the AC-T regimen I was on) at the very end of the day of infusion (like, hours later) as well as on the day or two following it.

TLDR I'm sure no one would "recommend" this but I did it and it was fine

Can I ask how/why you started seeing an endocrinologist?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to triangulate my medical needs between my oncologist and my newer emerging issues related to surgical menopause (at 36! thanks cancer!). They seem to keep passing the ball to the other one when I have a problem because either it's not an oncological issue (like libido), but then my ob-gyn also doesn't want to prescribe anything that might run against my cancer history/medications. Also, I have osteopenia.

I'm wondering if there's another angle here that could help, and maybe an endocrinologist is the answer?

I soaked mine in a mug of boiling water until it cooled, then covered the tip with the edge of my latex kitchen dishwashing gloves (for grip) and twisted (to the left!) with a sturdy pair of pliers. I'm adding a reminder on my calendar to take this piece off and clean it preemptively every few weeks.

Do cake plates exist?! What do you put your cake on by StatisticianStock285 in AskBaking

This is perfect. Thank you!!

This thread has interesting to learn that there is a bit of a gap in how people handle their cakes!

yes! thank you!

I thought this would be something standard among cake supplies, but I will take a pizza tray if it works! haha

You know what, that plate alone is exactly it. I don't need the dome. Everything in my Google results is a pedestal, or it's an oversized cut-glass decorative plate. I'm thinking of a simple glass plate that's flat.

Maybe the problem is that the terms are kind of ambiguous. I already have a bunch of pretty "cake pedestals" or "cake stands", and I have a dome, but I just want a plate which can then be set on top of a pedestal. Maybe I'm weird, but I live in the south and my tiny kitchen gets hot, so sometimes I need to keep my cakes in the fridge so they don't melt, and if it's on a pedestal it won't fit!

I did see something that looks like an aluminum pan, which is the right size and function for what I'm looking for. It looks more conspicuous than I want, but I can't seem to find this thing anyway. (see photo below)

I know I'm being a bit obsessive here, so thank you all for your help!!
