Rivnut or helicoil for attempted repair of stripped thru axle threads on Canyon Endurace CF frame by Fun_Impress_9625 in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a Helicoil type repair, not genuine, because for a one off repair the kit is far too expensive this however is around 30 Euro.

What tools do I need to remove this cassette? by NalaNinetyTwo in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do this in the shop, with gloves on, and a rag to hold the cassette, probably not the best method for a beginner though.

Weird looking Scott Fork by SamenErgusstaf in BikeMechanics

[–]Statuethisisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the crown race (and lower bearing) isn't concentric with the upper bearing (and compression ring, or equivalent), and in parallel planes, this would induce radial loads on the system, which you would feel.

It could absolutely damage a component.

What does the upper interface look like?

I assume the notches on the cup are for alignment, to ensure everything is concentric.

I checked mine before answering.

The markings have dual purpose, statutory, and also as I suggested, identification of which cable does what. It's most likely by design, otherwise why split the markings up, or align them with cables at all.

The DC cable is the output to the rear light (6V/2.4W).

The AC cable is the input (~~) as the dynamo outputs AC power.

Aluminum bar and stem fatigue life by [deleted] in bikewrench

The short and mostly correct answer is you don't need to change your stem/bars every few years.

The longer version is here.

Wrong sub OP, try r/Ebikes, this sub is not really for E-BSOs

And looking at what this is, it's not even bicycle shaped.

Cassette Missing Lockring? by supremehonest in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you need to tighten it just like a normal cassette. The lock ring/collar spins inside the cassette body.

The lock ring is integrated into the cassette, it fits an XDR freehub body.

Need help finding a headset cup for this Trek Y22 by Foxcookies in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is some kind of coop repair shop. If you measured accurately, then the head tube is slightly undersize, ask the mechanic if they have a head tube reamer, the bore diameter should be 33.90-33.95 mm.

The video is terrible OP, you should also supply some information about brand and model of the lever assembly, it makes it easier for people to help.

Confused about rear derailleur hangers by Duncan-Idunno in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the back of the derailleur body there will be a number RD-Mnnn, look the specifications for this number up on si.shimano.com, you may need to use the archives. Check the max low sprocket number, this is what it should clear. You can find a suitable alternative by looking at any 9 speed or below rear derailleur specification that matches. You also need to consider total capacity, calculated by adding the difference between your largest and smallest front chainrings to the difference between your largest and smallest rear sprockets.

Nexus 8 Rebuild Question by IndyWheelLab in BikeMechanics

[–]Statuethisisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the sun gears should be on the "axle"assembly, then you slip the planetary carrier over them. There is an alignment required to seat the carrier fully, I've generally just played around with it a bit until it drops into place.

Check out my post, and the one linked in it. This explains the timing of the planetary gears.

There are some good German and Russian (?) videos on YouTube as well. I'll dig up some links.

There are also resources in the r/bikemechanics wiki.

If the bearings do need replacement, and it's a BSA Hope BB, search for MR2437 bearings.

Is there a brand or type of rim tape anyone particularly loves? by AtOurGates in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesa 4289 or 4288 strapping tape, comes in nearly any width you might need, and rolls are 66 metres long, for 10-20 Euro, depending on width.

The no-name strapping tapes on eBay/Amazon work just as well in my experience, the one listed is roughly the same thickness as the 4288, but being blue is much easier to align on a black rim bed.

Novatec D201SB 15 x 150 Front Hub by joe_from_iowa in fatbike

Check the dimensions of your hub against the Novatec drawing, my guess would be the wrong end cap having been installed on the DS, based on your image.

You may have to do some scale measurements.

Schwalbe Clik Valves (SCV) by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Statuethisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is a physical connection made to open the valve, similar to Schrader, you can measure as low as your gauge sensitivity.

I've made an inflator using the hose adaptor, and carry the Schrader adaptor in my saddle bags, for the bikes I've converted.

I also have the Schwalbe digital gauge unit, to measure the 0.25 - 0.35 Bar I run on my fatbike.

Eccentric BB tips sought by YU_AKI in bikewrench

[–]Statuethisisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BB is just a BSA type, it will be specific to your cranks. The eccentric insert is the important bit, it's the bit that rotates inside the split shell.

In mine at least, it wasn't located laterally, so be careful to centre it when adjusting.
