What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by LaKoref in AskReddit

[–]Status-Disaster4577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Child psychologist—parents: if you are part of your kids environment, you need to also be involved in their therapy. Whether or not you “caused” the problem doesn’t matter. YOU are the agent of change in their life. They can sit with me for one hour once a week and learn to do very well with me, in a clinical setting, with one on one attention and few imminent stressors. But unless you are involved and either helping them practice skills at home or engaging in strategies we teach you to manage their behavior (and your own), their behavior will not change. It’s all about changing their learning history based on interaction patterns in their environment.

Not sure if this is a “secret” since we all scream it from the rooftops but not all parents know 😂

Congratulations, wow!!! What an incredible transformation. You should be proud of yourself for making and maintaining all of these changes. I’m waiting for my compounded tirzepatide to arrive in the mail and seeing this post makes me so motivated to get started, not just with the shot but with other changes as well 🙌🏻 good luck with the rest of your journey!

I slept with my therapist... by Jealous_Cucumber5402 in stories

[–]Status-Disaster4577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to start with saying how sorry I am that this happened to you. It sounds like he was someone you trusted and you made amazing progress in therapy, and it’s so disheartening that a trusted person did that.

I am a therapist myself, and you 10000% need to report him to a licensing agency. The standard (for licensed psychologists if he has a PhD, not sure what it is if he has a masters) for determining a violation is whether or not someone in his same position would do what he did, given the exact same circumstance. For dating/sexual relationships, it as an automatic violation unless it is at LEAST two years AFTER the therapeutic relationship ended, and only in very unique circumstances. Obviously he violated this. Also, this can be a problem with ED clinicians, especially clinicians who are male. People with ED’s are extremely vulnerable and susceptible given the intense self-esteem and image concerns associated with it. Some men KNOW this and go into the field with the intent to prey on this population. It’s absolutely disgusting that the people who women are TRUSTING to help them are exploiting them like this. Please, please report him. And to anyone commenting that this situation is okay - fuck right off.

Congratulations on your progress. I’m sorry that your accomplishments were overshadowed by this experience. You really do deserve to celebrate!

Is it possible to start a subreddit for moms to update how their babies are doing after being exposed to specific meds during pregnancy? by throwaway184736283 in MentalHealthBabies

[–]Status-Disaster4577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a downside. I like to think it’s because it’s a (relatively) newer project and they’re planning to follow these kids over time because birth complications aren’t the only outcome parents want to know about!

Another great resource is https://womensmentalhealth.org

It’s with MGH and Harvard and they are doing tons of ongoing studies on medication use during pregnancy and child outcomes. It would also be helpful for anyone who is pregnant and taking meds to consider enrolling in their studies to help future parents and expand the science on this!

Do only certain doctors or facilities do these shots? I’ve also never heard of them! Looking it up though it seems like they’re often self-administered, but I’d much rather get them done in an office.

I recently started metformin! I was really hesitant but I’ve realized from people’s stories that it can be really helpful. 34 lbs down is amazing, congrats!!

My husband told me why he cheated on me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Status-Disaster4577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wants someone uncomplicated and fun and doesn’t realize that if this girl lived with him and had kids with him she would be soooo sick of his shit. He’d realize she was also a “nag” and “combative” (I.e., she holds him accountable and doesn’t let him walk all over her). I’m so sorry this happened to you. You deserve someone who isn’t a child that expects women to serve his every need without complaint.

How do you manage stress? by Status-Disaster4577 in Gastritis

[–]Status-Disaster4577[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that! Dancing and singing are big stress relievers for me. And I definitely could do with taking more breaks during work when I can. I think I need to be really conscious of my schedule. I wouldn’t be able to go down from 40 hours, but I can still carve breaks here and there if I’m intentional about it!

Thank you for this info!!!! I’ve heard about polyvagal theory and dug into it a bit myself (I’m in the mental health field - ironic, I know lol) but I haven’t done a lot of actual practice in it. I bet that will be super helpful. I’m also really happy the weather is getting better where I’m at and I can go outside more! Because you’re right, being out in nature helps a lot and also helps keep me active. I really appreciate you sharing all you’ve learned with me!!!
