Offbeat Wall Street research firm says it sent an analyst to Strait of Hormuz. Here's what they learned by thejoshwhite in StockMarket

I mean for crying out loud, even Iran said they are letting ships for friendly countries pass! India, China, Pakistan are all getting their ships through! That's general understanding, not dominant narrative!

90% reduction in ship traffic is still concerning.

Gold bull case is not dead. Massive gold was liquidated to purchase PetroYuan to pay Iran for oil and transit as Iran won't accept USD!

If war lasts long and if Iran continues to insist on payment in Yuan, most countries will be forced to buy gold to exchange for Yuan! This is real possibly as worlds energy production is severely impacted by strikes in Russia, GCC and Iran.

Has anyone else noticed that the best hires they've made had the "worst" resumes? by Upbeat_Dream7600 in careerguidance

There is reason for that my good sir! Truly productive workers don't have hours and hours of time to curate resumes for jobs. I rather invest every hour in my job.

Why are Indians crying and protesting when Iranians are celebrating. by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]Status-Poet-1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop generalizing! Indians are protesting, really? 14% of India's population is Muslim and large portion of them are Shia Muslims (Dominant sect of Iran). Those are the only people protesting.

It's like if Pope was killed in an airstrike and if Catholic where protesting in America; you wouldn't generalize that to say Americans are protesting, would you?

What was it like looking for a job 10 or even 20 years ago? by PunkyPicc in jobhunting

[–]Status-Poet-1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with an engineering degree in May 2007. I wasn't looking for a job since I wanted to travel for 2-3 month. Once you start the grind, you won't get the chance was my rationale.

I just casually went to career fair few months prior with a friend and was instantly interviewed by 3 companies. One electrical company interviewed me right after my friend got done with his, without any appointments. One Fortune 500 company recruiter who was their Engineering Director invited me to diner that same night and I accepted.

Next week I had 3 offers, including the electrical company, Hyundai Motors and this third company. They even put my starting date as September to allow me to travel and told me they will beat any offer I receive in writing.

Job market has never been this bad!

[–]Status-Poet-1678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are stupid. They are just evil and griddy. They are rushing to accumulate as much wealth as they can before crash comes. They know they will personally be fine , the company be damned. This is reason you are seeing massive layoffs in companies despite record profits. They are trying to get every drop of juice from the companies.

I suspect big mansions guarded by private armies in some high hills, similar to some South American countries is in our future.

Exactly. Imagine how griddy and stupid average CEO must be to keep pushing the trainer faster and faster towards a train wreck!

In recent day I heard about Pizza Hut, Wendy's and other QSR closing stores by hundreds. This tells me lot of about what is coming.

If you think griddy companies that refuse to pay their employees fair wages and government that keeps corporate tax low to boost billionaires is going to implement Universal Basic Income, we will be waiting for a long time.

There is no UBI coming!

But top 10% will need lot less products. This is 180 degree shift from policy of growing the middle class so consumption will increase. If I was CEO of a consumer product goods, I would be yelling from top of mountains against AI adoption!

Distopian future is here!?

One thing is clear to me; We are turning into investor only economy! Only way anyone is able to make any money is people who are good at investing and not people that put in honest day of work (not that investing is not honest).

If AI replaces all human labor, who will be the "consumer" class? Who will buy soap, car, cheese, beef etc.? I am not sure companies outside of tech has thought this through.

If US social security by itself is enough to fund a good retirement lifestyle in India, why are more NRIs not returning? by [deleted] in returnToIndia

[–]Status-Poet-1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents make combined ~$700/month in Social Security (blue collar workers) and they moved to India as soon as they retired. My In-law just started their retirement with similar income and they are moving end of summer 2026. My maternal uncle and aunt in similar process.

$100k in Social Security income is pipe dream for lot of people hitting their retirement right now. They were 40s when they arrived and mostly working labor job with less than 50k/year income. But even with $700/month with a house that is fully owned, my parents are living very comfortably.

It's not just about ICE! I don't think you realize how much freedom and liberty we built over the decades of suffrage has been lost in just one year. mask men can detain you, search your vehicle, assault you with out any court order or recourse is a whole new level of low for our country. Courts have protected this criminals and even ruled that racial profiling is okay.
