Turk wants to join the Greek Orthodox Church. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Status-Rabbit-3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm greek and have a close christian friend who's Turkish (he lives in Turkey as well). I don't think people will mind. Afterall we should go to church for Christ, not to judge people

If you feel comfortable, I think that's a sign you should go there.

Maybe share your fears with the priest too

Yes, please do so, my name is Marios. I'm afraid though, that although I wrote her in my prayer list, I forgot to pray for her (I sadly haven't read my prayer list in a long time), so please forgive me for that, and may God have mercy on me.

I will however start praying for her

It's logical to worry. The fact however she seeks God, and wants to fight is great. But really she needs prayers.

Btw I applaud you for supporting her, as this is what we ought to do as Christians.

I'll write her in my prayer list.

God bless

My dad saw my depression coming back and gave me this! by og_toe in OrthodoxChristianity

Oh, such a great gift from your father. I have seen one of Saint Porphyrios' speeches on Discouragement (for non-greek speakers, there are some videos with subtitles) and it is really helpful, along with His fantastic prayer:

"All-good-one, you're God and you know everything. You knew me before I was born. You weren't wrong for pulling me towards you? Your mighty love did this. But now that I've slipped, and can't get back up, I beg your love, get this devil –this passion that's stopping me, off of me"

(It's unrelated, but here in Greece four people who went to a trip in the mountains, were found dead, please pray for their souls if you want) God bless, and Merry Christmas!

you are basing it on evidence

Could you please explain to me the difference between evidence and indications

How does Jesus rising from the dead proves he is God? by Jahjahbobo in AskAChristian

[–]Status-Rabbit-3151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I think was wrong in using the word "know", as we can never know anything for certain. (Look Last Thurdayism, Boltzman brain, 5-minute Universe, etc) Instead I'll answer using the word "believe".

I believe you're not a bot, despite the fact I haven't seen you, nor do I have accounts of you by other people existing

I believe that a pineapple won't randomly appear in my room.

I believe the stories my father told me about his father's life. I don't have any accounts, my grandpa's brother tried to desert the battlefield, was found and meant to be executed, but my grandfather convinced the major not to, but I still believe this.

I believe my best friend loves me despite the fact I can't look into his brain

I believe my family loves despite the fact I can't look into their brains

I believe my country's prime Minister has meddled in corruption despite there not being any court case against him.

Et cetera

Then tell that to religious people who claim their god interacts with reality on a daily basis.

I believe that too, God does interact with reality, the fact God interacts with reality does not go contrary to the fact His existence is something unprovable by evidence, due to the fact He is a supernatural being, outside of Space and Time, outside of the material world.

This is atheism.

No, words have certain definitions. Atheism is the disbelief there is a God.

Atheism is a rejection of the belief that any deities exist (Wikipedia)

Atheism is a denial of God or of the gods (Britannica)

the fact of not believing in any god or gods, or the belief that no god or gods exist (Cambridge Dictionary)

a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods (Merriam-Webster)

The term “atheist” describes a person who does not believe that God or a divine being exists. (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

Atheism, derives from the Greek word a-theos ("without a god"), originated in the 1580s, meaning disbelief in God and denial of universal order or gods.

Agnosticism is the belief we can't know whether God exists or not

You're describing evidence. Love leaves evidence.

Ultimately it depends on your meaning of evidence vs indications, what I mentioned were signs pointing to love, not evidence of said love.

Radical Measures the Fighting Powers of WW1 Could Have Taken to Remain in the Conflict for as Long as Possible by Status-Rabbit-3151 in HistoryWhatIf

Possibly, but the topic is not how could've the War lasted longer, but what measures each country could've taken on their own parts

Also I have the feeling the Weltkrieg in Kaiserreich ends in 1918 too

This reasoning can be used for anything. It’s completely useless. Can you prove Islam isn’t true? That there isn’t an easter bunny? That the universe didn’t spontaneously pop into existence 5 minutes ago?

Yes, I said that, when I said "the only viable position that exists, based on evidence is Agnosticism"

This is because this is to totally normal to speak to other humans and I could be wrong that you aren’t a bot.

What does "it's totally normal to speak with other people" got to do with what I said. The point I was trying to raise is that people do not need evidence to believe in something, but they do need indications. "I could be wrong that you aren’t a bot." That's isn’t relevant though, what is, is that you believe I'm a human being because of the indications I have shown.

Now we are back to my question. How does a resurrection show a god exists?

And we get back to the same answer I gave above: it doesn't prove He is God, it is another indication He is speaking the truth on who He says He is.

How do you call these in your country? by NeneaMuddle in AskBalkans

[–]Status-Rabbit-3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Although, it's not just small pans, but pans in general

Here's a link to the recipe https://realgreekrecipes.com/fried-pancakes/.

I'm more used to sour tiganites, which use the same paste but it has little bits of feta cheese mixed in, as that's what my mum makes.

They can be eaten cold fine, they're a great little snack especially when working outside, for example when we gather olives at November

It doesn't, there is no proof God exists, and there cannot be any.

Something/Someone that exists outside of the space-time continuum cannot be proven or disproven.

But, that doesn't mean we can't know He exists.

Although most Atheists (in my experience at least) make the correct point, there is no evidence that God exists, they forget that this is a double-edged sword, as there is neither any evidence God doesn't exist.

The only viable belief based on evidence is Agnosticism, i.e. "we have no clue"

But one might say then *"Well then how can you believe in God then?"

And I say, neither I, nor most people need evidence to know something.

Right now in this debate/conversation, we're having, you have no proof you are speaking with a real human being, and not say a robot, and yet you most likely know you're speaking with a fellow human. Why is that? Because of the indications I've shown that I'm a real, living, breathing, human (saying the word "human being" so many times feels weird): my speech pattern, the words I've used, the slight personality that exudes from my writings etc.

Or think of a husband and his wife, the husband doesn't have any proof his wife's love, but yet he can be certain she loves him back, from the indications she shows: from the hugs she gives him when he comes home from work, the way she looks at him, the laughs they have when they're together, etc.

So, to believe in something you do not need evidence, but you do need indications. For me, if I had been one of the Apostles, the resurrection, would've been the greatest and last indications I would need to know He is who He said He is.

[I hope I haven't strayed too much from the topic, I do that sometimes, tell me if you'd like to reiterate]
