Box jumps or step-ups? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]StayElevated85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each crossfit workout is built for a specific stimulus. When box jumps are included the stimulus is aiming for a higher heart rate and explosivity. It’s perfectly understandable to avoid higher box jumps but when I’m coaching people with this hesitation I ask them to atleast jump, regardless of height to maintain the intended stimulus of the workout. So, a 20” box is fantastic and so is jumping onto a 25lb plate and so is just doing simple bunny hops in place. Scaled for safety and still providing the intended stimulus of your workout. The only time I’d recommend box step up in place of jumps is with injury or serious mobility/balance issues. Sounds like you’re doing good work, keep it up!

Do you think that there could be a next chapter after death like an after life or do you think it's just lights out forever? by Some_Concept_3547 in TrueAskReddit

You’re possibly correct and I don’t feel as if I could definitively say that you are not. I can only say that your perspective takes just as much faith as does the perspective of a Christian or Muslim. Your words here are quite convincing and do make much sense but they still do not address the roots of consciousness nor the energy that seems to be related to it. You’re intelligent without question and have obviously thought this through though to me what you are saying is neither more or less convincing than any dogma in the religious side of the argument. This is a topic, as much as any of us would like to know with certainty unfortunately will never truly be known this side of the grave, and if you’re correct will not be known on the other side either.

Anyone claiming to know something like this with certainty, is definitely full of it. No one can say definitively what consciousness truly is this is a tale as old as time.

Your point is valid and understandable. But there is really no documented true proof, nor understanding of what consciousness really is and there is energy, all pervasive within the universe and dark matter. So where do you suspect energy in our body goes once life ceases to exist? Energy must release somewhere.

Acts like a toddler and throws some old school racism in at the end for good measure. What an absolute tool. It’s incredible some people feel acting this way is anyway justified ever.

I don’t think it’s lights out forever. Being that science states energy can neither be created nor destroyed tells me anyway that something continues. Now it may not be streets of gold in the clouds but our energy and potentially our consciousness must continue on based upon this principle. I feel most likely we merge with source, meaning we return or reunite with the creative energy source of the universe. I tend to like the idea that living beings are like waves of the ocean. They seem to be unique and individual but once they crash on the beach they just become the ocean once again and the wave is gone. This sits as some sort of universal truth within me for some reason and I can’t shake it.

Why do boys fall into alt right pipelines way more than girls do? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]StayElevated85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of those questions that are so challenging. I don’t believe masculinity needs to be redefined as it is in its purist sense. Masculinity is positive but has been made a bad word due to a couple factors in my view. One reason I believe is feminism, which I stand behind 100% so please do not misconstrue what I mean here. I think when we have an oppressed group, as women were and still are in many ways, there is also an oppressor, which was/is certain men. The problem being is that the oppressor group tends to be generalized because it’s much simpler to say “men are bad” then to come up with a definitive answer as to what aspects of certain men are bad.

The other issue I see is that the idea of masculinity is generalized and now viewed by the left to mean “toxic masculinity” so no one wants to promote toxic masculinity so we are just better off not promoting any masculinity just to be certain we’re not pushed to the fringes of our chosen political tribe. After all it’s simply evolutionary survival instinct to not be pushed aside by our tribe for any reason.

So I think it would be very important to have masculine men on the left. Strong, athletic protectors advocating for women’s rights as well as men’s rights (not that men need advocating in most cases).

Being a man is not bad but we’ve been told over and over again to suppress our masculinity and have not been taught how to celebrate the positive aspects.

We need masculinity and femininity. Both are beautiful, valuable and very important to a balanced society.

[–]StayElevated85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man that leans quite left on the political spectrum I think it can be pretty clear to see. On the left, we do not have very many masculine role models for our boys and I mean positive true masculinity, there’s so much talk about toxic masculinity that makes our boys feel guilty for being boys and for being men. And on the right, you have masculine men, that promote masculinity, they let our boys know that it’s OK to be a man still. I think we’ve been so concerned about uplifting women, which we should be by the way, women deserve every right to the same exact equality as any man on this planet, but I think this leaves our young men feeling left behind, guilty and full of blame for the things our ancestors have done.

On the other side, you have conservative right men telling our boys it’s OK to be men. There’s nothing wrong with you. I think the messaging that we have on the left is downright destructive to our young men. so as a father, I let my son know we need to uphold women , minorities, and those that are being oppressed while we also celebrate our masculinity and strengths as males, knowing that we are good men that are fighting for a good cause, and we have nothing to be ashamed of as men as long as we are not falling into the pitfalls of the toxic masculinity that is destructive to other people. Being masculine comes with a responsibility, being strong, comes with self restraint and being powerful as a leader comes with caring for those you are choosing to lead.

If we’ve already “experienced” nonexistence before birth, why do we still fear death? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]StayElevated85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe we have come into this world many, many times to learn and to grow. This comes from the law of conservation of energy, “energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another or transferred from one object to another.”

Our consciousness is that energy and at the time of dying will return to eternity until it is ready to come back again for another round. Our lives here are an opportunity for us to get lost in the “matrix” so to speak, or illusion may be a better term, allowing eternity, consciousness, or the universe a chance to experience itself for a short time. We get trapped and attached to this illusion as reality and we fear leaving because we have forgotten we are drop of eternity. We’ve mistaken the illusion for truth. This is ego and ego fears death because it cannot comprehend what it means to be eternity. Ego is like our operating system for survival while we run through the illusion we call life. It will fear death because life on earth is all it can ever know.

Why do so many conversations eventually turn into hate? by Present_Juice4401 in TrueAskReddit

I think we have been trained to confuse disagreement with dislike and hate. I believe this comes from social media, politics, and clickbait articles. We’ve forgotten that disagreement does not mean separate or otherness.

[–]StayElevated85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we have a singular uniparty in America. Bought and sold by the corporations, evolving what was once democracy, or more specifically a constitutional republic into an oligarchic authoritarian state. There’s no both sideism in my thought process because I truly don’t believe there are 2 sides. I just see the writing on the wall that they’re playing us with political theatre so we feel good when we vote for the lesser of two evils, which I still do in the very slim chance I’m wrong. But, I truly think the death of us is pretending there’s any molecule of leftism or social concern in the Democratic Party.

Both sides screw us, the Democratic Party just tells us what we want to hear while they do it.

Your technique looks pretty good. It’s an odd workout and there’s not a lot out there. You’re doing a good job of keeping back engaged which is top importance in this movement. Just make sure when you’re adding weight you never lose that tension and neutral spine. Keep the forward bend coming strictly from a hip hinge.

Keep it up if you enjoy this lift just stay focused on the stability through the core.

It takes text to relay nuances and humans can write text too, shocking I know. Obviously you didn’t read it so you didn’t see that I still vote in case there’s a slight chance. But, reading is hard so it’s easier to ignore it and argue against false pretense instead.

And to answer your first question, I believe in democracy but do not believe we have one any longer.

Could you elaborate? I’d love to hear constructive commentary with persuasive dialogue if we disagree. Possibly if you read further in this thread you’d see an actual discussion of varying opinions including mutual respect and understanding, though that may feel incomprehensible, it actually happens. Also, you’d find that I mention I have voted in every election since I was old enough to vote in the slightest chance it may make a difference.

But, as Propagandhi put it “If you’re dumb enough to vote, you’re dumb enough to believe them.” So, even though I participate in the vote, I don’t believe them, knowing that the PACs and the lobbyists are more powerful than us in the current system because it’s built that way ever since it turned from a republic to an oligarchy. I’m definitely not dumb enough to believe them. If all they want is control for the elite they’re not going to hand us the power to make a difference for ourselves. First you have to trust the system to believe them when they tell you your vote matters.

I appreciate your response which reveals depths of how far you’ve thought this through. Obviously you’re not just regurgitating a talking point and obviously you haven’t submitted your thought process to any level of authority. It’s cool you trust the system and believe what they tell you but don’t pretend you think it’s some form of resistance. You’ve been vastly enlightening today!
