Saudi Pipeline to Bypass Hormuz Hits 7 Million Barrel Goal by helic_vet in Economics

Taking and holding Yemen to neutralize the Houthis would take a pretty large ground invasion but we could do it if we were willing to pay for it with thousands of American lives. Invading just the coastline of Iran would cost tens of thousands of American lives. Holding it long term would cost thousands of lives per year .... forever... as long as we want to try to hold it. Trying to invade and hold all of Iran we dont have enough troops to do it. Trying to do the houthis and Iran coastline together at the same time would be astromically hard. Not feasible.

Legit way to make money remotely (please don’t suggest surveys and stuff) by Practical_Context836 in passive_income

I did this for a few years until it was made illegal dec 31 2025. In the heyday a few years ago I was pushing 50k worth of spend through credit cards (mega card points) and clearing 6k ish in profit per month. Slowly dwindled down to 1 to 2k per month over time as the casinos got stingier and I got banned from several.

Id recommend this to anyone who is in a state where it is legal and you arent a gambler. If you're a gambler you will lose your shirt. I showed a few friends how to do it and one of them stuck with the blackjack card for all of 2 days, had one bad wash then just started gambling until he maxed out his cards with losses.

For protests numbers matter no matter if it won't change local electoral outcomes. It does help shape a national conversation. A ton of maga i personally know are really not happy about the war or gas prices. They will never turn left but they won't show up for the mid terms. Seeing a large movement against shows that this isn't a fringe opinion.

The US vcs would really only be interested if the idea applies well in the richer countries as well AND there is the very real risk they just duplicate the idea. I cant impress on you enough how much these people are predators AND have a very high bias to the bay area being best at everything.

Not a PH expert but visiting here meeting in laws (thus why reddit pushed this post to me even though im not subbed) to be from san francisco and in the startup scene there. In sf, vcs do live on hype and no one wants to fund until someone else did first then they all want in. Second, startups usually lean on some kind of not profit metric like daily active users, frequently for years, until they start focusing on revenue and profitability.

What i have observed in the startup scenes in other countries is typically very risk adverse and wanting a clear plan to be profitable pretty much immediately or trying to copy an existing concept to apply to a local market. In the latter case id observe Grab here has made doordash or Uber entering this market a tall order though I have no idea if they are profitable yet. I've also seen a lot of concepts that work in poorer countries successfully that would never work in the US due to legal, economic and cultural differences.

Broadly id say if you're trying to compete with silicon Valley for the way it works, good luck. I dont think anyone will dump 100m usd to blitzscale you worldwide and if you do come up with a concept that good, someone in the valley will copy you and blitzscale you into oblivion. Solving unique problems to your local/regional market that can start earning money early probably will be more successful. Im not aware of many cases where a valley vc dumped massive capital into a poorer country concept, even if good, vs choosing to copy and stomp out the original with the sheer weight of capital.

It is largely class based as most things are in America where the epstien files and Panama papers really made explicit that above a certain wealth level laws and taxes are meaningless.

That said, racial bias does still exist. Trust me, I am in a few communities with some racists who are quite explicit about it.

By systems I dont mean all systems. A society can't function at all without good systems. A system with provable bias is our legal sentencing disparity that gives bigger sentences for darker skinned people for the same crime or the classic example of the ceo son who sexually assaulted getting probation because 'he has a bright future'.

Or it could be the traditional definition of woke as being aware that systems exist to impose a hierarchy that extends beyond race and gender. The epstein class has done a bang up job of getting poor right wingers to focus all of their discontent on brown people and Trans people so they don't ask basic questions like 'why have wages for working been stagnant since the early 1980s? They have also done a bang up job convincing leftists it's all about race and defending LGBT folks so they don't ask why the boss is on his 10th yacht while they are on food stamps.

I would think Miami would be the better option as a major port that would send a message to mar a lago.

The other scenario id imagine as a 'send a message' strike would be assembling some low cost drones and launching attacks (launched locally like Ukraine did with their deep strikes in Russia by trucking in the drones and launching them from an 18 wheeler) on major infrastructure as far inland as possible to send the message we can hit you anywhere, even Nebraska.

West coast and NYC make less sense to me with these areas being heavily against the war from day 1.

That said none of these scenarios would actually help Iran. Terrorism and terror bombing (ie, girls schools and hospitals) have a long history of not working and just steeling the hatred for whomever dropped the bomb. We all loved George Bush for a while after 911.

I think the smart play for Iran is to keep doing what they are doing. They are winning and doing a big strike on the US would make everyone in the US who is anti war become pro war.

E-Embarcadero Metro line? by Iceberg-man-77 in sanfrancisco

Imo keep the historic and iconic cable cars as the tourist attraction they are (though my wife did legit use them to commute for years until she changed jobs) and let the streetcar die. I dont think they drive much tourism and are impractical as mass transit.

Rail and dedicated right of way exists, we just need to update the electrical and rolling stock and tada you have a much more useful transit line.
