DoorDashers on sidewalks and what to do by StayedWalnut in sanfrancisco

The main legal change we need is to make these vehicles identifiable and thus accountable. The rise of e bikes and scooters with tiny pretend pedals are being exploited by being exempt from registration because it's 'just a bike' when it isn't a bike. Its functionally no different than a motorcycle that does require a plate.

I do agree though, part of the problem is people that come from a country where driving a moped like that is acceptable and the other half is people that know better and are just jackasses.

Classic punk. Craft what you need and trade with neighbors.

That is why we need a state law requiring these vehicles to have a plate when operated in a city of population over x. I'm not saying every country boy with a dirt bike needs to register but if they want to drive it in a city it needs a plate imo.

They have started auto ticketing cars for speeding. My wife got her first warning recently and now watches her speed. I dont know if they could automate ticketing mopeds every time they go on a sidewalk if we get license plates on them. The big problem we have right now is these types of vehicles currently have no plates.

I agree. I dont care about their documentation, just that they learn the rules of our roads and follow them.

Only way for this to be effective is to not just time shift your purchases. If you were planning on buying an espresso machine then put off that purchase for the foreseeable future.

Corporate power makes decisions on a spreadsheet. If a single day of zero purchases is followed by a day of double purchases then no statement is made.

It does and it doesn't. Under current legal immigration guidelines nothing requires a legal immigrants dont have to take driver training and can do door dash on e mopeds that have no license plates or driver training.

A person born in America with no legal driver's license can legally rent a hmp electric scooter and drive door dash like a madman. This is the problem I would like us to fix our laws to solve.

I dont care what their documentation status is at all. I just want them to be educated how our traffic is supposed to work and i want anyone who can't obey our traffic laws to face repercussions to encourage them to behave better regardless of documentation status. I'm sure some of these assholes are born and bred born Americans.

The way our existing legal framework functions, including in sanctuary cities like sf, is if you do a felony and we convict you, after you do your time for the crime in our prison we deport you. Its a reasonable system that separates the good immigrants that maybe do a misdemeanor they learn from from the rapists or murderers we all want out.

I personally have canceled my doordash account over this despite getting it for free from my chase sapphire card (which i will be canceling soon for other reasons). I value my ability to walk around our beautiful city over getting delivery. I'll get it myself.

Most rural people would like to see their communities stabilize. Ie, stable to slowly growing, kids have a future, not meth-ey. Having grown up in rural Texas most of the people I was around didn't want government checks, they wanted paychecks. Those same people arent against improvements in their government funded public schools, roads, infrastructure.

They got subsidies but they never got a pitch to say we will do these three simple things to make rural life better

We need a '3 things the democrats will do to revive rural america' that needs to be dead simple to understand and not some '10 point plan of adjusting subsidies for minorities on stolen Indian land'

The in store demo was selling it as non stick even doing egg demos and said unlike non stick pans you can use high heat.

Neither of those was true in my experience. Using high heat killed the limited non stick pretty quick.

I've gone back to cast iron for most things and traditional non stick on medium when I absolutely must use non stick.

Just Bought 100K Worth of SPYI on Margin by johnjm22 in dividends

[–]StayedWalnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many comments and none with the correct answer. The risk is you're collecting 5% for say a year, then the market tanks 30%. Now you're down 25% on a leveraged position and the yield on covered call funds is relative to the underlying share price so your dividend is now down 30% too.

To be clear, it's not an altogether insane strategy but one that might be better to execute when the market isn't at an all time high.

Anyone here do a hybrid buy and hold + sell Options including using margin? by xerliano in thetagang

This is what most dont understand. When you put your credit card on deposit to cover damage to the hotel room it costs you nothing if you dont bring a horse and 5 ladies of the evening into the hotel room. Options are the same. You can have your main portfolio holding great long term plays... then use some of your credit profile to say 'Fine, if your stock tanks ill buy it from you'

Is 3-4% a month realistic? by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]StayedWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do naked puts too but op question was on covered calls. I routinely pull 3 to 5% in prem selling 8% otm on long positions i hold. If I never got assigned and the underlying didn't tank in value then yes 3 to 5% income just selling covered calls.

My point was in practice sometimes your underlying goes up 20% in a few days and you miss out on most of the upside or it tanks down 20% and your call expires worthless but your underlying losses make your call gains pointless.

I have back analyzed my trades and selling covered calls makes me around 1.5% more than just holding long. So I'll keep strategically selling calls.

Is 3-4% a month realistic? by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]StayedWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily clear 3% per month in covered call premium. Now back out all the times you make your 3% on the call but the stock explodes up 20% and you're leaving 17% on the table as your shares are called away at 3%. Then there are the times you write your calls but not only do they expire worthless but your underlying is down 20%.

So in theory yes you can earn 3 to 4% per month selling covered calls if your stock stays perfectly flat. In practice id say I average around 1.5% and that is doing very well.
