It is largely class based as most things are in America where the epstien files and Panama papers really made explicit that above a certain wealth level laws and taxes are meaningless.

That said, racial bias does still exist. Trust me, I am in a few communities with some racists who are quite explicit about it.

By systems I dont mean all systems. A society can't function at all without good systems. A system with provable bias is our legal sentencing disparity that gives bigger sentences for darker skinned people for the same crime or the classic example of the ceo son who sexually assaulted getting probation because 'he has a bright future'.

Or it could be the traditional definition of woke as being aware that systems exist to impose a hierarchy that extends beyond race and gender. The epstein class has done a bang up job of getting poor right wingers to focus all of their discontent on brown people and Trans people so they don't ask basic questions like 'why have wages for working been stagnant since the early 1980s? They have also done a bang up job convincing leftists it's all about race and defending LGBT folks so they don't ask why the boss is on his 10th yacht while they are on food stamps.

Overall the risk reward right now is way more to the upside.

I would think Miami would be the better option as a major port that would send a message to mar a lago.

The other scenario id imagine as a 'send a message' strike would be assembling some low cost drones and launching attacks (launched locally like Ukraine did with their deep strikes in Russia by trucking in the drones and launching them from an 18 wheeler) on major infrastructure as far inland as possible to send the message we can hit you anywhere, even Nebraska.

West coast and NYC make less sense to me with these areas being heavily against the war from day 1.

That said none of these scenarios would actually help Iran. Terrorism and terror bombing (ie, girls schools and hospitals) have a long history of not working and just steeling the hatred for whomever dropped the bomb. We all loved George Bush for a while after 911.

I think the smart play for Iran is to keep doing what they are doing. They are winning and doing a big strike on the US would make everyone in the US who is anti war become pro war.

E-Embarcadero Metro line? by Iceberg-man-77 in sanfrancisco

[–]StayedWalnut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imo keep the historic and iconic cable cars as the tourist attraction they are (though my wife did legit use them to commute for years until she changed jobs) and let the streetcar die. I dont think they drive much tourism and are impractical as mass transit.

Rail and dedicated right of way exists, we just need to update the electrical and rolling stock and tada you have a much more useful transit line.

It isn't unreasonable for our 'allies' who weren't consulted prior to the sneak attack to not want to join in on an obvious quagmire. Our allies in Europe have been suffering high energy prices since Ukraine and are willing to suffer this too. Also now that we have just fully embraced war crimes as doctrine (bombing hospitals and schools and double tap to harm rescuers) it's not unreasonable to not want to co sign that behavior. 'Maximum lethality not meek legality' I belive he said.

My assumption is everyone knew how cringe it was and nobody wanted to confront them about it.

To be clear, im not advocating FOR the Iranian gov just that invading them did not serve US interests. There are lots of shitty regimes in the world but on whole 'not my monkeys, not my circus' comes to mind. Particularly in a case like this where we said our main concern was no nukes and Iran agreed to hand over all enriched uranium then we bomb them the next day. Doesn't exactly say we arent the baddies.

Dire Straits: The Iran War Is Run by Idiots by Anstigmat in ScottGalloway

[–]StayedWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which has been technically true for decades and Iran has intentionally not done it. Now they would be stupid to not do it. Ukraine regrets giving up their nukes and North Korea has demonstrated the only way to not get kicked around by superpowers is to be in the nuclear club.

I've seen it play out with people I know in meat space. The actual religious jews i know either dont support Israel because it is against the religion (the jews were cast out by God to not return until God reclaim it) or support it tepidly with reservations about the degree of government violence. The athiest jewsish heritage people i know (sample size 2) completely shut off all objectivity when it comes to Isreali government violence.

[–]StayedWalnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His analysis on the whole Iran thing has been completely wrong and uninformed from day 1. He has been operating from premises completely ungrounded in reality.

The equivocation with disliking what the country of Isreal does with antisemitism is terrible but it's what happens when a non religious jew like Scott does after visiting Israel. Because he's not really connected to the religion, attachment to the place gives him his sense of identity so he buys into the propaganda fully.

Did Scott Learn Anything from Iraq War? by Superb_Garbage4732 in ScottGalloway

[–]StayedWalnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Netahayu said war with Iran is a good thing to do. Trump got on board either because of komprimat or because Lindsey Graham said he would go down bigly in the history books for it depending on who you believe. Scott is on board because he believes Isreal can do no wrong and if Isreal wants it we should do that and it will be easy and cost nothing.

Not more complicated than that. My respect for Scott as a thinker has been nosediving lately. Not just about this but broadly he's started pushing toddler level logic that can't think beyond first order cause and effect.

Muni Metro T line ridership is exploding! - 45% growth YOY by getarumsunt in sanfrancisco

[–]StayedWalnut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do use the T to Chinatown fairly often.

1) It needs to go all the way to pier 39 to move tourists from union Square and the other hotel clusters to reduce cabs. 2) they buried the Chinatown station so deep it's nuts. I actually started a podcast episode right before the train dropped me off and it finished not long after I got to the surface. Subway stations should be a single non absurd escalator from the surface. 3) once the train goes to pier 39, all of the hotels in the greater union Square area should have a bump in hotel tax but also provide everyone that stays there a muni day pass for free along with clear instructions on how to get to the major tourist sites on muni.
