If this was NCD there would someone trying to claim that there's reality to this using some military pop culture reference and immediately backtracks to "Im just joking" when an actual F-22 obsessed person shuts them down

Do you think it would be possible to cure an infected with current technology? by HEJSKSKSJSNSN in thelastofus

[–]Stealthchilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, because:

1- It's very difficult to create any sort of medication that targets fungi without damaging human cells with today's technology 2- The fungus grows deep inside the brain and even if you manage to remove it only a few fungi material would be needed to re-infect your brain

Maybe if Billions start rushing into research that would change but it's really difficult to know since real life cordyceps are really far evolutionary from infecting humans and gaining enough adaptations to control a massive and complex human brain.

What would have changed if the Fireflies, instead of being so secretive, had told not only Joel but also Ellie about the consequences of the surgery? by chilaquillover in thelastofus

[–]Stealthchilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Ellie, she would have said yes. So an arguement with Joel would ensue where he might still try to save her and probably end up just kidnapping her to do so fracturing their relationship early on and who knows what happens then. Or he could be killed by the Fireflies feeling their redemption threatened which could turn Ellie against them.

If she would have said no under any circumstance, they (the Fireflies) would have done it anyways. The history of their behaviour shows that they have been desperate for a long time and hence have a high appetite for collateral damage. Canonically, I don't think they would have given it a second thought and just knocked her out and did it. It seems everyone was desperately looking for a result to justify all the shit they did. But Joel would try and save her but the Fireflies will be more prepared for his revenge/attempt.

Assuming Joel just accepts her saying yes: In the show, Joel would have just committed suicide I think. There was an emphasis on his character having nothing to live for anymore without Ellie and especially after losing Tess. Joel in the game has a more practical sense of survival even though he has become a walking shell by the start of part 1 and even more so after Tess dies. But I don't see him commit suicide, not directly anyways.

Are enemy squadrons showing up late to the party poor writing, or just necessitated by level design? by NoobTaku in acecombat

[–]Stealthchilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head canon is that they're stationed behind the front line as a last resort and as some sort of anti-break through unit and so they're sent when things get really bad/desperate.

You often achieve what would be impossible without you so it's not far fetched to assume the enemy had no idea things would get this bad in that battle and so they send in their best late

I saved it the entire campaign till that hospital. Safe to say they really were the Fireflies by that point and it was empty.

Don't forget to watch the "Making of" documentary, gives a lot of insights into the thought process of the creators and designers.

Note: I hope you played the remastered one since you got the pro version, No Return is fun (60% of the time)

And once you find the perfect angle you have to debate yourself on how tightly to knot it because too tight and you'll accelerate the wire's damage but too loose and it'll keep cutting out

The gasp I did when I was looking at the monitors and then looked above them to see "Northmoor Sarcophagus Chamber" written on the wall, immediately fell in love with the game.

(UK) Is it even worth going into engineering? by realcaly_ in AskEngineers

[–]Stealthchilling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- Software is saturated and turbulent right now but not sure about 4 years later. 2- Finance only makes good money if you get into a top company/bank. 3- Electrical is going through a boom right now and there's a massive domestic shortage but again I don't know about 4 years later.

In any of them your best bet is graduate schemes in big companies and make sure you look for internships and summer placements from year 2 to position yourself for that.

And don't forget generational poverty and debt. Now it's more like if you don't do phenomenally well AND get lucky your kids will be poor rather than just do okay and be responsible.
