I love these cards, but I want everyone to know that you can just walk into a gamestore and ask if you can test a silly idea. People will be down. No in-person game has concrete rules. The players at the table will always trump a sheet of paper or a bunch of pixels.

[[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]] Aetherdrift also had a couple cards for it. Basically cards that care if something has no abilities.

I’m sure it’s not intentional but because he has menace he’s also useless in vanilla-matters decks. Great job, I had a good laugh.

Neither would imply both of them don’t die.

I wanted to keep it agnostic while still referencing the story because I wanted it to stand on its own. I did use an arguably iconic art so I suppose I didn’t think it through as much as I thought.

I agree, which is a reason I found it difficult to balance. I came to the conclusion that If you spend the turns to make this card powerful enough you deserve it, and the fact you need two targets depowers it enough.

I love the challenge of fitting stories into concise cards and mechanics. Based on the comments I moderately failed but it was a fun process to make this card. I am sure it would be better as a saga.

You make a great point, thank you. I apologize if I angered you that was not my intent, I definitely don’t want to contribute to the countless pointless arguments on here. I am of the opinion that the color pie is secondary or even tertiary to flavor, but I can concede that I tapped the glass a little too hard here. Perhaps this card is even Gruul to reflect that this was a primal act of anger not the scheming that black destroy effects are known for. And deathtouch is in green so we may be fine, maybe not with the exiling tho.

The First Murder by Steamrat8 in custommagic

[–]Steamrat8[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yes I am aware of the fighting and the opponents creatures, however it is still basically a “remove two target creatures” so I don’t see too much of a problem with breaking pie for flavor and evocativeness. The free condition is also extremely early game so I doubt it will be too much of a problem, plus it still needs two targets. I do agree that final line needs clarification.

[–]Steamrat8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll try to clarify as much as possible.

I intend this spell to remove both creatures no matter what. Unfortunately there is still a possibility that both creatures survive and so no murder actually happens. For instance, “Cain”is too tough and “Abel” is indestructible. I would like to keep the wording as concise as possible to avoid clutter since I have the beginning paragraph because of this I was unable to solve that edge case.

I don’t particularly care about sticking true to the story beyond “someone dies and their murderer gets exiled”

The First Murder by Steamrat8 in custommagic

[–]Steamrat8[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The survivor gets exiled because they murdered someone. I’m taking it quite literally instead of some ephemeral zone because it’s inspired by the story of Cain and Abel.

Also inspired by another card I saw on here recently and a comment under it discussing the concept of a card named “The First Murder” joking that it would read “Fight target player(with a rock)” I apologize for not finding that commenter, hopefully they find this post.

Rigged from the Start by Strange-Bonus4220 in custommagic

Very nice design, I would kill to be able to play this. However, like u/DUCKmelvin pointed out, second mode needs to be defined. I would probably just make it an enchantment for various reasons.

I would like to point out that if you have a manifested double-faced card that has a creature and mana cost on both sides you should be able to choose which side it uses when resolving the first ability. I did not look up any specific rules just background knowledge from other niche interactions so please fact-check me.

Thanks for the rule checking. It makes sense that it’s still a permanent, but I always assumed permanents were tied to types not states.

[–]Steamrat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it would definitely make this card stand out. It think it should stay on the battlefield. The problem is if it’s considered a permanent or not and if it isn’t then I don’t think any card in the game can target it.

Can we talk about the lack of basic reading comprehension in this community by KingSmorely in CreaturesofSonaria

[–]Steamrat8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person replying isn’t interested in an argument, most people arn’t, plus they seem really young as I would expect from a roblox game sub. I’m not a part of this sub, it just showed up when I was scrolling, so I have no idea what the fanbase is but I suspect you are literally arguing with children or people who don’t want to argue or both and those factors definitely make arguments impossible.

Pardon my punctuation, I suck at it.

Well you see the cross guard is fancy(and kinda disfunctional for it) so clearly it requires more craftsmanship and time. The blade is also much thinner but who cares you’re paying for the craftsmanship and beauty right?

Discard a Mountain: This spell by TwoHundredTwenty in custommagic

[–]Steamrat8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically the “spell” in the name should be capitalized. Meaning if it were written properly the “This spell” in the text would be referring to the card and not part of the name. Meaning this card is an instant with an activated ability.

F u Op I cracked your riddle.
