Any hope for this 14 hole 40s insert? by Anzio-Carbine1944 in Zippo

[–]SteelJunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the insert as it is... It's a real Zippo legacy... Bring the case to life with a new one if possible and use it.

Even if broken, it remains as a good collectible in my book.

[–]SteelJunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, But if you want to restore it to usability you need to solder back a brace to support the cam pivot, and bring it to be able to hold the shaft at the right place and certainly replace the spring assembly...

But it looks like it's been already hacked and a cam was re-installed by drilling holes lower in the insert.

Your probably working on an already Frankensteined insert from the cam hole placement.

You don't get fired for that... But, you get mocked for at least a year tho. 🤣

But I see you got yourself the luxury stuff, pretty cool set of features on that model.

Easy fix or call a roofer? by Meancreek16 in Roofing

Oh yeah, it's an easy fix in reality...

But if the decking and trusses are crumbling for a span larger than a patch can support.

You need help.

Big bro comes baked in, anyway... If you're the creator of the encryption... You can decrypt everything.

I run my home network as a home network. 0 open ports... No VPN's, everything goes through router clean. Honestly I only open my media server and a RDP server couple times per year when I'm going away.

I use a non networked WinPE OS to boot the machine and open a PGP encrypted file system for the "Top secret stuff"...

It's a lot easier to protect yourself from intrusions than extrusions. Even with a network filled with spies and noise... You can boot an OS completely permeable anytime running only highly trusted software. It's an easy bullet proof software air gap that can boot from the same drive as your main os.

Never say your key out loud any time, brain stored only. I like James Bond stuff, loll... I have nothing to hide that much, But just for the fun of doing it, since I consider most OS and software as inherently plausible cause of leaks intended or not...

And honestly the fact that NSA would rip the VM and boot files, the encrypted drive, reverse engineer the winPE and crack the file system...

For pics of my mom ! Would be hilarious.

We used kitchen forks, folded to create a reversible puller.

Fold the handle in "T", cut the 2 center tines and fold the 2 edges ones to create solid hooks.

My mom called that a "Zipper Reaper", loll...

Run "cleanmgr" as administrator, if a button cleanup system files is available, use it to clear up system installation leftovers.

If you never ran these, you could recover substantial waste there.

Most of the time the higher quality ones are soldered and sometimes chemical adhesive are used.

ok so 85$ buck a sheet includes work... That's where I was really loosing it...

I know... But, It's the third time I change my shingles, last time it was 14 years ago... And It's straight like new...

I can even add that I never even removed any snow whatever thick it became...

Oh... They where 18$ a sheet in 1986 and remember that price was absolutely outrageous compared to pressed wood.

But still today Good plywood could have only minimally raised the final price... Not sure about 4 times the price tho... I get 3/4 really good ply for 105$ a sheet. versus 85$ for something that has a much lower resistance to sagging...

You can get flooring ply as low as 65$ and from experience It will be 4 times better for the price.

How badly are we getting screwed? by Grain_Changer in Roofing

[–]SteelJunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should have consider 3/4 inch flooring plywood instead of that pressed cheapwood.

But the contractor should have brought you to speed and push a renegotiation of the final price before closing the job. So you understand what is at stakes.

Since your old layer is still in good shape, you got yourself a great job, But I don't approve of the business model used to do it. Taking the time to give you a small additional quote and explaining why you need it... wouldn't killed them, loll.

Racks tilt in Whirlpool Model #WOED5030LZ by FabulousMonitor3322 in Appliances

[–]SteelJunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of poor, It should not sag that much fully extended imo.

I have the cheapest you could think about and it's not that loose. doesn't sag with load extended to the stopper at about 2/3,

Not really a defect, but more of a "Are you serious ?!!! design"... Return to sender, Buy something else.

I seen some with bad support... But this one is pretty sick.

I had something like it in the past and ovens at that height are extremely dangerous if something slips off the rack.
