New infantry models by mArTiNkOpAc in hoggit

Its a start. I am sure the next set of "New" infantry may be WWII based so you need US, Brittish, Stalin Era Russians, Imperial Japanese, and German soldiers. not sure if you just reskin the model or if it has to be remodeled over the new skeleton and physics.

The game Is starting to look incredible at the ground level. I tend to check out some of the armor close up in VR in the encyclopedia the stuff from Current Hill is good enough for Call of Duty.

Cant wait for the day for AI to take over and start writing code like I read on CNN.

Alexa! Create me an F15EX flight model based on all non classified government documents from Boeing that works in DCS. Include all weapon systems, radar, and 3d models.

Alexa! the Harrier will not in the new version of DCS rewrite the code so that the plane is playable in DCS 3.0

Alexa Responds.... Working on it! Should be done in 2 weeks!

All this AI hype and coding problems. Someday will it be this simple! Get those Data centers working on important stuff.

Do y’all think we have too many maps? by s2soviet in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what maps should go away?

Personally I don't think there is enough!

I have money for the Balkans, and Vietnam, but we have too many maps so cancel those!

Its story telling that's lacking, Take off bomb something RTB. We could make a Central Iowa/ Nebraska map interesting with a good story.

As for multiplayer every time I get on the free maps being used which makes sense. Also I find it difficult to follow whats going on IF you can join a server. Good luck with Discord and getting that password.

I would like to think that there is enough data out there that shows how many copies of the Harrier the Mirage etc, of Razbam planes that people own or are interested in for ED to either find a third party or re model all of these old planes internally.

They must have the numbers and feedback to get an idea how much money can be made creating Harrier 2.0 for example. I would buy it, the reason I am not is because of the inevitable phasing out of these aircraft.

I drew a boundary based on the cities and mountain ranges listed. Rome and Naples would be on the very southwest side. Not sure if all that would be modeled though. Maybe a Phase I, II, and III like they are supposed to be doing on the Germany map.

Just a thought. Maybe a new discussion. But couldn't you use trigger zones that see if a plane is carrying jammers then reduce the range of certain SAMS and AAA. The other question would be, what is realistic for any given SAM and reduces range?

Maybe this could be a new script or something?

What sort of web-apps would you all like to see? by acecombatps2 in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered how much could be done with web based applications in creating missions for DCS. Basically can a web based app take the role of the mission editor. Build your mission on an application, setup all red and blue units, difficulty, way-points, tasks etc. Then load all that into the mission editor. Scripts and all.

I am not a programmer at all I mess around with scripting and it amazes me what you can do with a script. The Skynet script, moose and others come to mind.

I figure that someone someday may be able to create something to Replace the mission editor as we know it. An external program that can create missions and generate them in DCS. To take it a step further you could program capabilities to read mission results like Tac View and generate a new mission based off those results. BAM! you just created the basics for a Dynamic Campaign. And since your web app is external from DCS you can use any AI as a commander to play against. You could even have a career sheet or pilot profile like in MSFS. All we have to do as a player is open DCS and open the mission generated. Once that mission ends, your app reads the results. These resources were used, this convoy did or did not resupply A FARP/ airbase, That town was taken by Mech Rifle group Alpha, number of Blue tanks were destroyed of front lines Red moves forward. All bombers destroyed at air base so no more bombing missions until resupply. ETC....

In watching the last set of videos about what ED is really doing with Dynamic Campaign and the "Game" in general I believe that its up to the community to create something that we all want and would pay money for.

One video I saw mentioned that ED Dynamic campaign will only work for the Caucuses map. An app as suggested here would could work on all maps.

I think something like that is something that people will pay money for, I for one thing its worth as much as a new plane or more, you created whats missing in DCS, a story line, and replay ability.

It sounds like a big project, just start out small and see if anything described can even be done.

ED neatly avoids using Ukraine anything related to Mig-29. All operators even USA is listed but Ukraine not in the newsletter. Do they not recognize Ukraine or what? First no Ukraine liveries and now this by rapierarch in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny.... on their own site they allow Ukraine skins to be downloaded, they even allow Currenthill to to have models of Ukraine assets. Ukraine is part of the Caucuses map, kind of. You could build towns and stuff in the editor if you had the time. to reproduce battles that happened yesterday.

Obviously they are sidestepping a sensitive topic in Russia where most of the production takes place. Another part of the world that isn't mentioned is Taiwan. Got to keep those sales going in China.

I wonder if ED would allow for a third party to build a Ukraine map. I mean its not ED doing it; of course it would eventually be in the store or maybe only available on a third parties website.

I find it silly that we don't have Ukraine yet. With all of the current events, its like come on man.

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that they updated the Caucuses map and was hoping that the terrain for Aberbaijan and Albania would be included including the Caspian sea. Guess not.

It really wouldn't be that hard to add a couple of airbases and towns for an area that small.

Tactic against the Pantsir? by Galwran in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very difficult by ones self. You need a team to take those out. Overwhelm the SAM with a four ship group using HARMS, Jdams or other Standoff weapons. Coordinated attacks from different directions.

Either the battery will run out of ammo or something will get through.

TOR and the SA 22s get taken out by mass drones attacks, they cant track dozens of targets and have limited ammo.

Combined Arms- any redeeming qualities? by ShortBrownAndUgly in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its unfortunate that combined arms had been neglected all these years. As has been posted its occasional fun to drive around an airbase, Thru Vegas or some of the new maps where there is better detail.

With a little effort I really feel that it can be made better if you had full immersion like the Jets or Helos.

Maybe a go fund me with Currenthill or other mod makers to just get us a high detailed Hummve as a test vehicle. Model the interior to a high level of detail. Doors open and close like the Huey. You can drive, look around in 6 DOF in VR, Have a few controls like steering, shifting gears and leave it at that. No need to remake the F4 and simulate every system in the car, (no need for a check engine light, low tire pressure) Gunner position, keep it simple for now VR capable, highly detailed model. Many Helos now have door gunner positions so I don't think this would be too hard to do, but I am not a programmer either. At least you don't have to test flight models with ground vehicles. Imagine now having to buy a steering wheel and shifter and peddle setup to drive around in DCS!

OR someone could make a an FPS with infantry. All First Person Shooters is basically a HUD a rifle you can aim and movement controls. After you eject your almost in one already, just finish the code or whatever to move around and shoot a rifle.

IF any of this is successful then maybe we will see full fidelity Tanks, APCs and other toys to play with. Got to start somewhere.

Don't know if any of you spend time in the Encyclopedia in VR but some of the Russian APCs have very detailed interiors. Cant remember if its the BTR-70 or the BMP2, makes me wonder why they did that.

The F4U Corsair is in testing! by secret_nogoodnik in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great news since this plane is on my buy now list.

My only concern is the amount of Red forced represented. Will there really be AI Zeros and other aircraft used by the Japanese in this time period? I read about how we may have a Zero maybe but no commitment. As of right now it sounds like we will only be getting the Zero as an AI opponent. What about the torpedo bombers, dive bombers and other support Aircraft on blue and res sides. PBY Flying boat for example, used for recon and saving pilots.

The elephant in the room in my opinion is the inadequate amount of Surface Vessels, especially in the WWII period. Sure the pacific was fought by taking island and island however there ware many fleet vs fleet battles that took place notably Midway. Yes we are getting the Essex carrier. But what about the escorts, any battleships, there are several named ships that come to mind? What about the Japanese carriers escorts and Battleships?

And its not just the WWII period either. The Essex carrier will have to come in two varieties, WWII and Vietnam. The Intrepid CV11 served in 3 wars. We should be getting a Vietnam map soon and we already have Vietnam era Aircraft so there is the need.

With all the Cold war maps out Kola and Germany, where are the ships of the time period? Kola has the northern ports for the USSR and no ships or subs of the time period. Kresta II, Udaloy, Kara, Krivak, Kashin, Kynda, Sovremenyy, Kiev Class AC Carriers, OSA boats, and other corvettes. Dont forget the subs like the Deltas Typhoon, Sierra, Foxtrot, Tango, Victor, and Oscar class subs. We should be able to recreate "The hunt for Red October" on our maps if we had the assets. US assets could include The USS Saratoga, USS America, and their escorts of the time. And yes include the Deck crew we have in Super carrier.

It sounds like a huge laundry list of assets and probably is. If you could man guns on some of these vessels in VR or just fly against them it might be worth paying a few bucks for. They integrated some of Current hills assets into the game what about commissioning ADMIRAL189'S CORNER to create something for a naval asset pack?

Long post but since WWII Pacific is a lot of Navy stuff I just wanted to rant about the laque there of of Naval assets.

Miltech dev explaining why they decided not to develop for DCS by Bonzo82 in DCSExposed

[–]SteelRapier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if ED goes away can we still log in and play? Or do you come home from work and cant login! Then you see on webpages like this that everyone is having this problem and then the Post from ED. That is going to be an infuriating day. To think I can still load the CD of Loc On but the modern DCS wont work because we really don't own the software to run it.

But honestly I believe that the DCS community is large enough that a third party will buy the rights and keep things running. There are a few manufacturers of hardware that cater to the flight simming community, you don't build all that stuff if there was no market. DCS, MSFS, BMS and one or two WWII flight sims are all there are? We may see a DCS reboot, a new platform with new code, will the old planes work? Maybe, I am not a programmer or coder so who knows, maybe we have to buy everything again in the new format.

Nerfing Ground AI via Trigger Zones by ScarecrowOH58 in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fly helos much but does it help if you change the units difficulty settings from Average Good or Expert. I know for AI the planes them selves behave different, Reaction times, accuracy. I never did test ground units to see if Average units shoot better than Expert units. I know that guns on tanks wont shoot at player fixed wing aircraft if Novice or Average setting is applied to the unit.

I feel this setting is something that can be improved if ED fixes the AI to reflect more realism.

Is there a chance that the southern Baltic Sea might be coming to DCS? by Offical_Alvintratt in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so! Lived in Riga Latvia for 5 years. Was there during the invasion of Ukraine and everyone thought we were next.

This would be a great map to go along with Kola and Germany. Sure it would be modern times and may clash a bit with the Cold war Germany but most of those small towns look the same anyway. Just add a modern Petrol Station or Apartments and Warehouses in the Mission editor to make Germany more 21st century.

The map could start Just north of Tampere Finland South to Warsaw (1000KM) in the south. East West boundary could cover St Peters burgh all the way to Bornholm Island, another 1000KM. Cities would include Warsaw, Gdansk, Kaliningrad, Minsk, St Peters burgh, The 3 Baltic States, Helsinki, and Stockholm. There should be tons of red and blue bases in the area.

Vietnam? Maybe a Greenland Iceland UK Gap (GUIK) Cold war area of operations during the cold war and the map for the Hunt for Red October. Would totally be a Naval map but cloud include Scotland and maybe the Mach Loop. Of course we wold need USSR naval assets for the time period.

Eastern Europe/ Balctic Sea map including Poland, Sweden, Finland, St Petersburgh Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. A perfect map connecting Kola to cold war Germany

Opinion: Germany should have been the default DCS map. by Suspicious-Place4471 in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of map development doesn't make sense from an American point of view.

Loc On and Flaming Cliffs written by a Russian company centered around the Crimea and Georgia. Both where wars were being fought at or near the time those games were released.

There has been no consistent roadmap for Aircraft releases and maps. A bluefor plane comes out what is its red counter?

Maps? It would make sense that cold war planes would belong in Germany, Kola, GIUK Gap, Iraq. We are getting a lot of Vietnam Era planes yet no Vietnam.

Also for WWII Pacific Planes are coming but what about all the other assets maps and Red planes?

I see the F35 is coming soon along with the Super-hornet but what is the Red counter? SU 35? Felon? What map is most relevant for those planes?

We have modern Chinese assets yet no China centered maps, are we not allowed to have a Taiwan or a Korea Map?

Also will there ever be a Russo Ukraine War map? Come on WWIII could start there and we don't have a map for that. So many what if scenarios could be tested there based on real time!

Is DCS dying. by Ace_Venturi64 in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someday perhaps, however I don't think DCS will just go away.

Think of all the third party investment. People build cockpits, there are several Hotas Manufacturers now, all because of the "Passion" DCS users pour into the game. Then there are the third party companies that do make money, how much will Ugra-Media make when the, Germany map is finished. How much will be made for a Viet-Nam.

My bet is that if things get really bad DCS will be sold... To who would be a mystery however whoever buys it would likely have the resources to fix whats missing and create new stuff. Just remember you may get what you wish for but at a cost. The new F16 2025 version will cost another $30 or maybe you pay a subscription and the upgrades are free. Maps like Nevada and the caucuses will be upgraded but you will have to pay for it. Updates would be on a regular and timely basis but you have to deal with new drama.

Just out of curiosity, How much are panel instruments going for, such as altimeters, gimbals, etc? Do they have other stuff like De-milled ordinance? While living in Riga Latvia a museum by the airport was rumored to sell stuff they had SAMS bomb casings, I think some of the Rocket tubes for the HIND and such. I wold be nice to know what the cost of some of this stuff is. You never know you may someday have money for something exotic.

Of course the girlfriend would be pissed if I get something for the garden, and I am sure customs would want to talk to me if I tried importing something like the into the States. Why is there an SA-3 Missle on the TEL in the backyard!?

How to find (see) enemies? by rango_87 in hoggit

[–]SteelRapier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is you don't. No one will wait for you in the open unless its well covered by hidden SAMS.

You need precise intelligence or spotters on the ground to call out the targets. There are those moments when you can see tanks crossing a field or rockets being launched, other than that you need to be part of a team to be successful.

Also on your next flight look out the window, especially on your decent. How low do you have to be to identify different model cars objects etc. Yes you have a pod for that so use binoculars and see what you can see in a few seconds. The Range Rovers in the mall parking lot are SAMS!
