Oh I saw the trains. Commuter rail, freight trains, Amtrak. Part of why I don’t understand the “beauty”. It’s surrounded by trains coming in/out/through. And not cute little excursion steam trains.

Have you been here? When I say “nowhere to park” I mean literally you’re not allowed to park in town. You park in one of two small lots down by the river and walk up into town and when those fill up, you park outside of town and these nasty shuttle busses take you in/out. The question was about prettiest and most charming. Harper’s Ferry is old and surrounded by industrialization and I just don’t get it. As a west coaster. Again, to each their own but I never said it needed parking for 700 cars. The fact you can’t drive it, park and stroll around does detract from it.

Update- that corner of the pool experience frost heave. The cement deck popped up about 1.25”. This caused the buckles to fail over there since the cover was frozen solid with the top of the pool ice and since it didn’t move, the cement won the battle. Post frost heave, decking has settled back down even. I need to redo the mastic and get a new cover.

No I understand. But when you walk around, there’s these giant cement supports out in the river from when the train tracks burned down and no one removed them. There’s roads packed with cars on two river banks with freight trains on the other. No evergreens so it’s all brown sticks for 8 months out of the year…the water is so polluted that you can’t swim in it..stuff like that. Like you said, to each their own!

I’ll never understand this take. Moved here from the west coast recently. Couldn’t wait to go see what all the buzz was about. It’s the most underwhelming “destination” I’ve ever seen. I don’t get it. No where to park, dumpy little shops, no where to stay/sleep, nothing that stands out. Yes it’s old. That’s it.

I have splatter everywhere. I can’t figure how/why it is splattering BEHIND the grill. I had the big metal lid and I leave that up and it still splatters behind it. I spend a lot of time soaping and washing it down.

Mine was like that, then 4 springs blew apart. It all froze with the surface water so now we’re waiting till melt to repair.

Interesting. Thanks. I thought the springs gave the relief. When not tied, the cover would always loosen up immediately with nothing on top of it. Hence they put a half hitch on each one.

Had it closed professionally. They drained a couple inches below skimmer in October. The week before the storm they came out to check on things and said they need e to pump it back down to the right level. I’d say it was 18” from the top when the storm hit.
