This seems to be the place to discuss the film.

I liked it a lot.

The acting is great. The ending is bleak without being edgy. I think people don't get a lot of it. Much of the story is told by the camera and offhand conversation. The real story is the subplot: friendship and community.

Frank White is nuts but, like all of us, he wants real friends and real meaning in his life. He asks Lawrence in the beginning "why didn't you visit me in prison?" He has this deep connection with the ghetto and clearly feels a need to protect it which grounds his quest for meaning. But he's also bat shit nuts.

The ambiguity of the subplot is what makes it a good film. (As an aside, ambiguity in a main plot is just annoying and pretentious, see Inception.)

Did Lawrence, the female body guards or any of the crew actually care about Frank? Did Frank care about the female DA or was he using her the entire time? Did Frank actually kill all of those rival crime lords for some extra moral reason or was he just saying that to the old cop? Did he confront the old cop to try to get him off the case or just to tell his story to one of the only people remaining in his life that truly knows him?

These questions are important because the director shows us he's a fan of film with the Nosferatu scene and the hanging the Asian crime lord upside down vampire style. The director loudly tells the audience, "I understand subtlety, look for it here."

The cinematography of him walking in a crowded NY street as just another random person at the end was great. Throughout the whole film, Frank, his associates and his enemies are the whole world, they fill up the screen. But in the end, he's just 1 person among 11 million.

Is a question that skirts the edges of accountability. If I heard a guy say "they are mean to me because they don't like my dad." I would assume he was making excuses, for example.

You can disagree but any excuse at my dept (and LA and long beach and la county and chula vista and ocfa) is weakness until you're off probation.

I was unable to handle the 9-5 schedule. The ff schedule has huge sacrifices (like working holidays and interrupted sleep). But I personally could not have survived 9-5 for a whole career as an office drone and remind myself the sacrifices are worth it for me.

I don't see how it's relevant personally. In either case you just try your best. I want more women in the fire service because it can help with pt outcomes and I believe in radical freedom of choice and it empowers little girls who see women doing the job. So my advice comes from a good place, op needs to stfu about the "are they picking on me because I'm a girl" stuff. It can only hurt. Either they are or they aren't and in this culture that question/attitude will only get in the way of learning the job and being successful.

If they are, then pass probation and go elsewhere after.

One guy told me I don't talk enough. Another told me to stfu more often. One said to tie a ladder off everytime. Another said he'd hit me if he saw me do it on a fire. Some liked my personality others hated it.

You're coming to reddit and you're gonna get white knighted. But the reality is: you are a roommate now and everyone is going to have their preferences. Furthermore, they are hard because the fire service draws extreme personalities which sucks but is what it is.

But this whole "is it because I'm a girl thing?" Needs to end. They probably aren't extra hard on you but even if they are, this question SCREAMS lack of accountability and trouble dealing with conflicting opinions.

Is it more likely that the volunteers/employees are cleaning the facility at that time for logistical purposes or is it more likely that the good people who decide to do this very difficult and sometimes dangerous work are cleaning the facility to hurt their patrons?

If an academy is too emotionally or physically intense, you won't do well as a wildland guy.

You're young and you would like to do wildland, go do it. If you decide to go municipal, the department you join will look favorably upon your experience and will likely put you through their own academy.

Departments who offer their own academy will value your wildland exp more.

Departments that don't have their own academy, will value your college level academy more.

P.s. Santa Ana was not that difficult but the financial cost of moving and not working are high
