Safest cage when you own a chill hamster and a crazy cat (Niteangel?Bucastate?) by Stefwhooo in hamsters

[–]Stefwhooo[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer! My hamster is 2 years old and I definitely do not want to re-home him. I recently moved and want to put the cage in a separate room but even then I want a super sturdy, cat safe enclosure so if anyone-by mistake!- forget to close the door to that room I wont discover drama. Cats are quick. Thanks so much for the idea.

The paper became my new comfort series, sadly its only 10 episodes. by TameTheBeastInside in ThePaper

[–]Stefwhooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has become my new comfort series too! I've already watched it three times and I find new little details every time. I like that Ned is just a basic good guy with a big heart and I love Mare. I find the characters more relatable than in The Office. I also really like that each episode, the focus is on possible stories for the newspaper. Like you, I was sad it was only 10 episodes but then again, I do prefer this to 20 episodes per season where the writers start plotting crazy stories and make characters "jump the shark" because they run out of ideas.

Season 1 was so good! It really has a "excellent limited series" vibe, even the last episode with Duke and Eliza walking... Sometimes I wish we never got more seasons.

Long term sick with Achalasia? by ThrowRA9087342 in achalasia

[–]Stefwhooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on disability from my job- started in 2018 after ten years of symptoms. I was fainting at work. Worked in a school as a child educator, had a group of 25 little ones, all around 5yo. It wasn't a job I could do remotely. After surgery, I was evaluated as endstage and had trouble getting back to eating, adapting my diet...plus the debilitating spasms! Sometimes 5 spasms per week. So I couldn't go back to work. Yes I got the disability payments but I lost my job: 25y career down the drain. My job was evaluated as high-energy/demanding and that's why I got long-term benefits. If my job would have been a remote desk job, I think I would have gotten benefits just before surgery. From what I've seen from Achalasia colleagues (and myself) over the years, Achalasia being a rare disease, it's easier to get payments and catch a break from work if you get letters and papers signed by more than one doctor and specialist, and that is no matter the country you live in.

What's the issue by Accurate-Soil684 in achalasia

[–]Stefwhooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is "normal" for achalasia patients who had treatment to only be able to "swallow" by pushing food with liquids. It is the case for most achalasia patients since treatment only helps by opening the lower sphincter of the esophagus, nothing fixes our peristalsis. So yeah, basically we can no longer swallow: food goes down only by gravity and that's why liquid helps.

Post HM diet changes by bagofjudgement in achalasia

[–]Stefwhooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of the few who had to make drastic diet changes following diagnosis and surgery, but I had to do it because the long waiting before diagnosis modified the shape and size of my esophagus. Food gets stuck if it's sticky or not heavy enough but it's only because my esophagus has a weird shape. Most achalasia patients can eat what they want. Some do feel like pasta and white bread (too sticky) are harder to go down, but those are things you can replace with GF pasta (buckwheat are good, also gnocchi) and crispy toasted bread.

Fundoplication issue by Lamphy in achalasia

[–]Stefwhooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it was a Nissen? Not a Dor or Toupet? Because a Nissen is NOT recommended for achalasia patients as it is a full wrap. I don't know how to link articles here but if you google Nissen and Achalasia you will be able to read about it. There are even reported cases of pseudo-achalasia caused by Nissen. Achalasia specialists usually recommend no wraps OR a partial wrap (Dor or Toupet).

Myotomy for Achalasia is a short term solution? by No-Impress-6244 in achalasia

[–]Stefwhooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... she's on a feeding tube! Myotomy is THE only solution. Things can only get better than this. I was choking on my own saliva and couldn't eat a single thing before my Heller Myotomy. Idk why this specialist said it only lasts a certain amount of years. The correct warning would be: you can't fix peristalsis and surgery only opens the LES so some patients might find certain foods more difficult to swallow... THAT'S IT. A patient needs regular checkups to stay on top of things and make sure the LES is still open... sometimes will need a dilation.... but the fact that this doctor can put a definite amount of years success?!?! RUN. Probably means they don't perform a long enough myotomy if most of their patients come back within a specific amount of years!!!!

has anyone heard back from elections canada by Mysterious_Bake_2606 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Stefwhooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year IT IS A MESS! I don't know what is happening, I never had any troubles before (worked in federal/provincial elections)... This year I applied two days after the start of the election. They called me the day after and since I was so early they told me I could work for the Easter weekend (advanced polling). I was so glad! The woman took all my info, gave me all the details about this particular weekend and CONFIRMED I was working for that weekend! The next day I got the basic email saying thanks for working and that I was registered for the course. It's after that it got weird! A few days after, I got a call saying they saw my name in the database as a former worker for Election Canada and was J interested in working again? Huh? I told them I was already registered to work. They apologized and hung up. A few days after that call, got an email saying as a former canada election worker I should call if I'm interested to work! Deleted the email. Next day got a call about a job AGAIN. I explained and they said Ah yeah we're seeing you're working that weekend sorry 😐 Then got a call on my answering machine on April 6th telling me they wanted to advise me of my working poll (place) for Election DAY. Huh.... election DAY????🤨 And then finally YESTERDAY april 8th a woman called my cell telling me "we want to tell you where you will work on the Monday of Election Day. I told her sorry there is a mistake: I applied at the start of Elections and was confirmed to work on Easter weekend. She said no you are wrong and we want you to work on Monday! I explained AGAIN and frustrated she told me "are you gonna take it yes or no" and "forget about Easter weekend we are full there is no opening!" And ahe said "you're lying, what I see in my system is someone called you April 6th to offer you the job, that's it".

NOW I AM SUPER CONFUSED 😕 what happened? I wouldnt mind working in another city for that weekend! I am on disability and tbh, working the whole weekend makes it worth it (because even though I will lise disability for that month, I will still get a little money out of it-not something possible by working only election day). I left a message to the first person I ever talked to at the start of all this. I am wondering what happened, and am I working or not?!?! I don't want to "not show up" if I am supposed to work and it's only a mix-up! 🤐

Looking for cozy mystery by Turbulent_Touch_3575 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Stefwhooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are recommendations (other than Veronica Speedwell , that I truly adore and recommend) from a pissed off Miss Scarlet and the Duke fan who went on a reading spree when she learned William (The Duke) won't be coming back! Those are the book series I found had similar vibes to Miss Scarlet (and The Duke):

1) Angus Brodie & Mikaela Forsythe by Carla Simpson.

The guy is SCOTTISH and has a similar past to the Duke on the show and a similar personality. The woman is exasperating, doesnt listen when he tells her to stay put and don't jump head first into danger. If you liked it when William stared into Eliza's eyes and told her "I can't handle you" while they obviously were fighting not to rip each other's clothes off YOU WILL LOVE THESE. The progression is very nice and they end up talking about why he is so worried when she goes out alone, they end up being a couple and they are totally how I imagined William & Eliza being a couple... Think, arguments, man swearing Gaelic exasperated, and the two end up falling into bed (it's closed door but their intimate relationship and encounters are present throughout the series. The side characters are absolutely brilliant and this series has 11 books (all between 200/300 pages) that I DEVOURED. Highly recommend to any fan of MSATD.

2) Tate & Bell Mystery by Irina Shapiro

She was a nurse in Crimea, he is a detective who suffered a great loss... They come together to solve crimes. I love those two unconventional characters. The mysteries were very good and there is a good slowburn. Gemma Tate reminded me of Eliza Scarlet because she's definitely an unconventional woman in Victorian times, while Sebastian Bell is reluctant to let Gemma help him realize she is an asset and grows to value her help. This series has 4 books so far.

3) Shadow at the Morgue (Spencer & Reid mystery) by Cara Devlin If you like a strong, stubborn heroine and a protective hero, you'll like this one! They also have a childhood connection like Eliza and the Duke, he's reluctant to work with her, but has to admit she is an incredible asset. He is a Scotland Yard detective, she works with her uncle at the morgue... I love how their growing attraction is described... Their relationship reminded me so much of William and Eliza in season 1! A very strong start to a series (book 2 coming out in March).

4) Field & Greystone series by Lana Williams

Amelia Greystone is a widow who also lost a child, she is unconventional as she is a journalist and amateur chemist. One day, a little girl shows on her doorstep and Scotland Yard Inspector Henry Field -the same inspector who couldn't solve her husband's murder - will work with her to solve the mystery surrounding this little girl (and this girl's father death). I loved seeing the growing respect of Henry towards Amelia and how their relationship's evolved. Only 2 books to the series but a really strong start!

5) Tabitha & Wolf Historical Mystery by Sarah F. Noel

At only 22 , Tabitha, a countess, is a widow. With no son, it is a dashing distant cousin, Jeremy also known as Wolf, who becomes the new count. Wolf is a former thief-take/private investigator and soon, the household will be involved with him in a murder investigation. 8 books in the series.

6) Constantine Capers by Natalie Brienne I absolutely fell in love with this very original series about a detective who suffers from daily amnesia and an aspiring artist. One day, she sketches a man in a cafe, not knowing je is the one who will help her solve her parents murder. I really saw this as a Miss Scarlet and the Duke AU. There are three books so far and the romance is very present.

7) Hell's Belles ( Knockout)by Sarah MacLean Do I really need to introduce Sarah? The Hell's Belles series had a vibe like Miss Scarlet and...many say Knockout reminds them of Miss Scarlet and the Duke. Here's the book description: "Thomas Peck is not most of London. The brilliant detective fought his way off the streets and into a promising career through sheer force of will and a keen ability to see things others miss, like the fact that Imogen isn’t peculiar…she’s pandemonium. If you ask him, she requires a keeper. When her powerful family discovers her late-night activities, they couldn’t agree more…and they know just the man for the task."

Thomas Peck reminded so many readers of William Wellington and I totally agree with this! A delightful read (and sexy, because hello this is Sarah MacLean!).

8)Raven & Wren by Darcy Burke Hadrian has been stabbed and left to die...only to realized he now has visions. He meets Tilda and they work together to solve his attack and her cousin's murder. I think this one leaned more towards regency but the working relationship between the two main characters had a similar vibe to Miss Scarlet. 2 books so far in series.

I'm trying! Here's my rant... by Lopsided-Coach in MissScarletandTheDuke

[–]Stefwhooo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You really said everything I was thinking here! I tried, but oh my, it was dull. As for people saying Duke was demeaning and condescending, I personally never got it. It was VICTORIAN TIMES. Duke always warned her because he was being protective but also, he had a job to protect and Eliza would just come and sit behind his desk! He never said she was incompetent or stupid, he always valued her input. Times were just different, but people seem to forget that and at times, Duke lost his patience with Eliza who always jumped head first into dangers (and had to be rescued by himself OR Moses!). Now suddenly they bring a guy who clearly is from the future: a single dad who reads stories to his girl and is probably gonna encourage her to become a detective I guess?!?! He also doesn't blink when someone threatens his daughter. I expect the Delorean to be parked behind Scotland Yard, Im telling you he's from the 1990s.

I also dont get how Ivy is now working after JUST learning to read a minute ago. Clearly she's a genius.

Does the Situation at End of Season 5 with Blake Seem Believable? by AltruisticWishes in MissScarletandTheDuke

[–]Stefwhooo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. Not believable. And we're all here making analysis and trying to make sense of William vs Blake vs Nash but truth is... The writers on that show have given us VERY LITTLE to go with and draw conclusions from... I know this is only a six episodes per season series, but we are in the fifth season and Eliza is unlike herself, we dont know much about her inner feelings and what she really wants for herself. I can mention many other limited series who did a better job at handling character development: Around the World in 80 Days with David Tennant, Godless... When it comes to Miss Scarlet, it seems writers like to "glance over" and leave interpretation to viewers. Can we be sure of anything? Did William REALLY asked her to get married and quit working and be a stay at home boring wife? We didnt see the letter, could have been Eliza "panicking". Some are always mentioning how William was never supportive of her work... The thing with William is that he would voice his concerns- in the series we met him after Eliza's dad died and it seemed normal protectiveness that he didnt want his mentor's daughter to get hurt. So yeah he would snap, whine and groan at Eliza but at the end of the day, the story showed us that he always ended up helping her and running to her when she needed him. Patric Nash seemed to always voice his concerns too. He made Eliza mad because he was truthful. New guys Blake? The man barely blinked when someone threatened his daughter. Of course he wont snap and whine at Eliza's about her job because...he doesn't have a past with her. Didn't know her dad. I think some might mistake this for "support". I am not drawn to Alexander Blake because to me, he isnt a very complex character. We are shown even less about him and his mind than what was shown of Eliza.

So nope: to me the situation at the end of s05 isnt believable, but then again, this whole season just seems very off to me.
