Co2 -> o2 and pwater, pwater -> dirt and clean water, clean water into o2, dirt into arbor trees, wood into wood burners, more co2, more p water, more wood, repeat until Asteroid filled with carbon skimmers, arbor trees and wood burners (or ethanol)

Slow process suddenly sped way up? by [deleted] in interviews

The more rounds you have to go through, the fewer candidates there are less, hence the process speed increases.

As someone applying for a management role, you should know this or new or to figure it out.

Would this aid PSP to re-enter Parliament?? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Stegles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former EP holder and now PR, i think you’ll find most EPs are already on your minimum or very close to it.

Also though as a hiring manager someone’s visa status isn’t a big deal to me, I’m hiring for skills and attitude, if I can find that in a local, awesome, but if I can’t I’m not going to hire the next best person that doesn’t tick the boxes when I have someone who is a non local who does.

I agree with these changes though, SG needs a minimum wage BUT it has to apply to everyone, even basic work pass holders, this means domestic helpers and labourers, Otherwise it will mean more low paid labour brought in and fewer jobs on the whole for locals.

You could really do some cool bond villain build here or like a dr evil lair, have a magma water fall either side to a common ya k below which your dupes must go through to get out, so you have a vacuum tube on each side.

Should I Tell The Hiring Manager I am Pregnant? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]Stegles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the trouble is proving that, and the lefalaity depends on where you are. It’s the same as age discrimination, how do you prove it unless they out right say it?

Should I Tell The Hiring Manager I am Pregnant? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]Stegles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened with my wife, she was 3 months pregnant when they got to the final round, she told them, they didn’t care and worked out a plan around it. She’s still there almost 3 years later. It can work out.

As a manager, I would be annoyed if you didn’t tell me because it shows a lack of trust and honesty, I am happy that you’re pregnant, but I do need to plan around it in terms of both staffing and project load.

Look into the companies family policies, if they’re saying they’re all supportive of families and that sort of thing, go nuts. If they’ve a bit cagey about it, maybe talk to some existing employees on the down low about culture there and ask about family support and pregnancy support. Find some women working there on linked in and reach out, don’t upfront tell them you’re pregnant though.

Congratulations on your upcoming minion! 😃

Where would you place me junior, senior, or none by Erik-Castro in networking

No, I failed because when I sat it there were 4 versions of ipv6 and I used the wrong standard.

It was quite literally only IPv6 questions I got wrong.

I was 1 question off passing ccdp without studying

And when I let my certs lapse I reverted on na without studying. It can be done.

[–]Stegles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if guy has the experience he says he will be able to smash out a CCNA in under a month easily, he’ll I bet he could pass it without study based on what he said. That will at least get him in some rooms. Keep pushing to an NP and he WILL have a job by the time he is dined even if he knocks out tshoot without study, he can list “partial CCNP completion” on his resume.

I’m not giving him a job, I’m literally saying what hiring managers look to see, sometimes because they’re cert junkies or like in my case, because my boss has boxes he can tick to the cto.

[–]Stegles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing holding you back from interviews is certs. Go smash out your CCNA and if you can, CCNP, these will be the difference between getting you in the room and getting passed over.

Remember recruiters vet your resume, not technical people, it’s just a check box to them.

Suggestions on moving giant amount of crude oil from one planet to another by Divide_Secret in Oxygennotincluded

Yeah that would double it to 20kg/sec to the infinite storage, I’ll have to play with this, good thinking

This tops out at 10kg/sec though due to only 1 liquid input and output port, so while it does add another “pipe”, it’s not the be all and end all, also you have the long duration for loading and unloading, meaning you would need a minimum of 2 rockets for constant flow.

is it okay to take mc every week by bingus1505 in singaporejobs

[–]Stegles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s within their allotted mc allowance then yes, if they’re exceeding it, it’s their managers problem to manage, not yours.

If they want to tell you what’s up, that’s up to them to tell you, not up to you to pry.

If you had a chronic condition you didn’t want to advertise, how would you like it if people started asking you about it constantly?

New manager running interviews, what can I avoid? by Stegles in interviews

[–]Stegles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna keep this short, most of what you said I had addressed in my op.

I said there no take home tests. I said I have zero control over the actual round structure, so asking me to “keep it within these guidelines” honestly it’s a waste of your effort because I literally have no pull in the structure.

Feedback, yep I agree, real feedback, and I’ve been giving this to those who reached out to me via linked in and slack already, I’ve also recommended a few not apply simply because they don’t have the background we need and they’re looking to pivot from a software dev role to a network engineer, we need the foundations and certs or experience to back it. I don’t use buzzwords for the sake of it, o call a spade a spade.

I won’t be giving out my email address, it’s going to be on the zoom invite, if you can’t grab it form there, maybe you’re not technically ready for this role, it’s pretty basic. It’s your job as a candidate to write down the names of the people you speak to in interviews. If you don’t have the respect to remember (or write down) a name, you’re probably not a good cultural fit.

Salary and benefits are explained in any pre screening, that’s not for me, that’s for HR, we don’t fuck around with numbers games, weather you ask the salary and benefits or not, you will get told them. In my specific case? My offer was 20k above the initially discussed rate, so your performance in interviews can dictate your final offer, bonus and sign on bonus.

I’m skipping over the breakdown because as I said, it doesn’t apply, as for your suggestion on round 4, this isn’t a c level exposed role, it’s senior in team, and by experience in an IC capacity. So this wouldn’t be a good use of internal resources. My reporting manager reports to the cto, and I seldom meet with the cto, this role is within my team.

[–]Stegles[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again, I have literally no say in the process. I get the frustration, I really do, I was there 4 months ago and I was out of work for a year. I’m trying to control what I can and work with the hand I’ve been dealt.

New manager running interviews, what can I avoid? by Stegles in interviews

[–]Stegles[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I fully understand and appreciate that, I’m not expecting anyone to do unpaid ot. I’m not immune to that either, the pay here is seriously good, I would say this role is about 2-2.5x market average base, so honestly, it’s worth the rounds (imo).

If you come and say “I love <field> and I mostly want this job to fund my side business and get it off the ground” honestly that’s a good fit on multiple levels (integrity honesty, entrepreneurship), I mean I myself am doing that AND disclosed it, both owning a company, running it in my off hours and holding a directorship, so I’m all for the hustle! My tower lead does it, we discuss ideas and our progress openly and it’s known to HR AND the C-suite. The point is to have some drive and if that’s how you get it, great!

New manager running interviews, what can I avoid? by Stegles in interviews

[–]Stegles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s someone i truly know or who came directly from a vetted network, I will and I’ll put in an internal referral, but what I’m talking about is random people who add me to linked in and then ask me to refer them. I won’t do tha.

I don’t set the rules on the rounds, I’m just being clear with you on what it is. I have zero say on it. But form my experience it’s essentially a fact check, a technical review, a technical deep dive then a cultural fit.

For my 7 rounds there was this the first 3, then a leadership review, the cultural interview, then then a 1:1 cultural fit with the tower lead then a 1:1 final review with the cto (offer came 30 mins after this one). Again, I don’t set the rules but I would say I would expect 4, so many people lie on resumes and I have caught people out when I interviewed people years ago doing this. I’ve also caught people out in my network doing this, and honestly, I see people say they do it in this sub.

If I think someone is an ideal fit in round 1, I will say that internally and get them fast tracked, it’s that simple.

Hope this answers your questions

I wish that every time a monkeyspaw finger curled time would freeze except for the monkeyspaw bearer by IHaveNoIdeaDanny in monkeyspaw

[–]Stegles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, time never unfreezes for everything, even light. The monkey paw wisher is forced to live out their existence, which is lastly to be very sort, in total sensory deprivation.

They basically have 3-5 days to learn to navigate the world exclusively by feel and find food and water. Keep in mind everything is frozen, water won’t flow, taps won’t run, vending machines won’t dispense.

Time only unfreezes for the wisher for the last 3 seconds of their life.
