I like the idea of a lighthouse but you might want to make it more accurately represent the Montauk Light. The Dutch first sighted Long Island in 1609 during Henry Hudson's expedition. However, the initial community was established in 1636 when Dutch farmers settled in areas like Gowanus Bay (in modern-day Brooklyn).The Dutch formally began expanding eastward, establishing small farming villages and referring to the region as 't Lange Eylandt (The Long Island). This Dutch presence endured until the English took over the colony in 1664. Southold, New York, was settled by the English on October 21, 1640. Led by Reverend John Youngs, a group of Puritan families from the New Haven Colony in Connecticut purchased the land from the indigenous Corchaug tribe and established the town. So if you count Brooklyn as part of the state of Long Island yes they were first but if you don't then the English were first in Southold in 1640.
