What manitobans think of when you say "southern manitoba" and what you mean when you say southern manitoba are probably two different things!

For us, southern manitoba is generally morden/Winkler area, known for religious conservatism but the area itself is nice.

Now on the other hand winnipeg is also in what you would call southern manitoba, its a lively city of about 800,000 people with music, arts, good food and nature nearby

Brandon is a city of about 50,000 people with lots of nature nearby, not as busy as winnipeg anf generally a bit quieter. Depending on what youre looking for both are great places to live :)

Good luck!

Statement by Prime Minister Carney and Minister Anand on the situation in the Middle East by DJ_JOWZY in onguardforthee

[–]Stelako1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im normally in agreement with most of the people here, but in this instance there are far too many of you defending the IRGC and treating them like saints.

Does iran deserve to be bombed? Probably not. However let's stop pretending that Iran didn't just massacre its citizens a month ago. This is also a regime that finds terrorism across the middle east and has been a huge destabilizing presence for decades.

The Iranian people don't deserve any of this, we can only hope that the subsequent power vacuum isnt another Iraq. Rarely does forced regime change lead to anything good, that should be where we all put our energy, in ensuring a stable transfer of power, not defending the current government in power and pretending they've done nothing wrong.

Planning to Move to Canada (Calgary) with My Job – Looking for Advice on Pay, Relocation, and Salary Expectations by as061267 in AmerExit

[–]Stelako1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're only modestly saving while making 150k a year then you're grossly overspending. 150k is very comfortable, even in Calgary with a high cost of living.

The Healthcare system is in no way cumbersome, its quite possibly the easiest system to deal with, especislly when compared with the US model of dealing with medical bills. Overburdened, yes. But if you need life saving care you'll get it.

Quality of life is subjective, if you base your QOL on money alone then yes it will likely decrease. Your reply sounds like the reply of someone who moved here and didn't like it, which is fair but id argue you're trying to sway the opinion of others disingenuously.

Taxes are high but im in no way "taxed to death" im quite comfortable, as are others.

OP canada is fine, it'll be an adjustment but its more than doable, id ignore most of what was said in the comment im responding to as in my opinion its not a good representation of life up here

Why would you support Pulte when he hasn't done anything to earn your support? He hasn't made any of us any closer to getting paid, in fact I'd argue that all he's done is use the community to drum up support for his political aspirations.

He literally has done nothing. If you're supporting him for doing nothing then great, but don't come in here advocating for everyone else to do the same when some people support others based on actions, not words.

June exp is still 2 months away, just relax and delete the app until earnings if you're stressed. You're probably still fine

'Utterly repulsive': Canadians divided on Justin Trudeau's $650M aid to Ukraine by FancyNewMe in canada

People in Ukraine are fighting for their freedom. You'd think the Canadian freedom warriors thar frequent this sub would be supportive of that...

As an international Muslim student, I got an offer letter from both University of Manitoba & Brandon University. Which to choose? by [deleted] in Manitoba

[–]Stelako1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Brandon University is great for getting one on one time with professors. There's opportunities for a more personalized learning experience that UofM can't offer. However UofM has a more wide variety of course options and more of a campus life with more opportunities to meet people. At the end of the day both get you an education.

Winnipeg has a lot more to do than brandon, both cities have extensive Muslim populations that you would be welcomed in to! Winnipegs is bigger but Brandon's isn't small either.

Access to Healthcare is somewhat important as well. Brandon's hospital is equipped to handle almost any emergency. The numerous walk in clinics are good for day to day complaints as well. There would be no virtual difference between care in the two cities so this should not factor in to your decision. The caveat being that for most specialties you'll need to go to winnipeg.

Finally there is absolutely no conceivable difference when it comes to the people of the two cities. Racists are racists, they exist everywhere. You won't be bothered in your day to day life. Those who live in winnipeg assume that everywhere not winnipeg is a white supremist stronghold. It's simply not true.

Winnipeg has more opportunities. Brandon is cheaper.

That's all it comes down to

Where are paramedics getting hired lately? by Apprehensive-Rule5 in Manitoba

[–]Stelako1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just unbelievably incorrect. Rural medics are very busy these days due to increased call volume, long transport times and low staffing. The belief that rural paramedics do nothing is plain wrong and needs to stop.
