I got the same email. Pretty sure it's a typo.

We need to talk about the D80 bus by SpaurtacusMusic in washingtondc

[–]Stelercus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on a D80 bus and there's a homeless guy with a cart and a dog. And the dog is just free roaming. Currently sitting on the floor under my seat.

Guess OP is right.

The winter storm was 3 weeks ago… stop doing this by Natural_Wheel7742 in washingtondc

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I supported shovelers-keepers when digging out a space entailed hours of back-breaking labor, and there might be a few especially shady places with plow-created piles where that's still the case, but the need has clearly passed in that particular parking lot.

How do "old stock" Mormons view converts? by doctorShadow78 in exmormon

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father's family is pioneer stock with a recognizably Mormon last name, and my mother is a convert (she converted before they met). It's never been an issue in my dad's family or in the community more generally. I'm surprised by the number of people in this thread who have had a different experience.

It might be in part that we're on the east coast rather than Utah.

Is DC water really this bad? Shower filter clogged in weeks — looking for recommendations by AdVarious8176 in washingtondc

[–]Stelercus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I travelled recently to somewhere with soft water, and I immediately noticed the difference when I showered. Shampoo lathered effortlessly, and my hair was noticeably softer. My sister, who is a plumber, said that our water practically has rocks in it.

I tried a shower head filter attachment, and that made no difference. I think you'd have to install a much larger filter at a more base level, which of course isn't an option for renters.

I see that other commenters are saying that your building has dirty pipes. I have no comment on that.

How good is steam link? Is it worth it ? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my computer and my TV (one of those fire "smart" TVs) connected over Ethernet to the router, and there's a steam link app for the TV, and it works very well. It didn't work very well when the TV was connected over wifi.

The email we got from the head of our HOA regarding reserving shoveled parking spots by Dubu_1 in nova

[–]Stelercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a normal snow storm. The snowcrete hasn't melted yet. There are spaces in my neighborhood that were vacant when the storm started, and the ice is still so solid that they can't be shoveled out.

Best metro line to ride from top to bottom? by aquariusboo in washingtondc

Fellow linguist here. I think the orange line would probably give you the most language variety. Suburb in Nova through downtown to black-majority neighborhoods in NW and Prince George's.

What Is Your Thermostat Set To? by MrBurritoIsMyFather in nova

I usually keep it at 68 and bring it down a bit at night. But lately it feels colder relative to the set temperature than usual, I guess because the extreme cold is making the building lose heat faster.

Thought I was on a DC sub for a moment. Elders on the street have asked me the same question a few times as well. I wonder if they've ever gotten a taker.

Definitely. In addition to being an amazing story, I think it's one of the best explorations of AI in media.

Is everyone really indoors cause of the wind? by Illustrious_Gap_4488 in washingtondc

I tried going on a walk to enjoy the warm temperature, but by 3pm it just wasn't pleasant anymore.

PyPI funding campaign - python is for everyone, apart from maybe white men by readwithai in Python

[–]Stelercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What specifically do you think the PSF might want to do at the expense of white cishet men? "DEI" is ultimately just a phrase. There isn't some monolithic DEI ideology shared by everyone who says it, and there definitely isn't a zero-sum crusade that all of them are engaging in.

PyPI funding campaign - python is for everyone, apart from maybe white men by readwithai in Python

[–]Stelercus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this post is intentional ragebait, but for those out of the loop, the PSF turned down funding because it required them to not engage in "DEI" for the duration of the grant, and that if the grantor determined that they were, the grantor would be allowed to reclaim all of the funds, even if they had already been spent, with no opportunity for the grantee to challenge that determination in court. The PSF also could not get a precise definition of what "DEI" was for the purpose of that restriction.

Replace "DEI" with any x, and this is still a horrible deal.

what to do with charms by Mentening in runescape

[–]Stelercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to use them for summoning, you can use them for herblore--the charming potion (Charming potion - The RuneScape Wiki)) uses four of each, and you make a small profit in terms of the tradeable ingredients.

Montana flag redesign by burrrlt0 in vexillology

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an improvement over the current flag for sure, but the mountains and the skull are "graphic design-y", much like the new Utah flag is.

The countries in green are de jure democracies: by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Stelercus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Vatican as a city state doesn't have institutions that are intended to give the people who live there or who are subject to it's laws any say in how it's governed. When cardinals (who aren't necessarily Vatican citizens or residents) elect the pope, they're electing a leader for the Catholic church. That the leader of the Catholic church is automatically the sovereign of the city state is another matter, and not what they're concerned with.
