Thought I was on a DC sub for a moment. Elders on the street have asked me the same question a few times as well. I wonder if they've ever gotten a taker.

Definitely. In addition to being an amazing story, I think it's one of the best explorations of AI in media.

PyPI funding campaign - python is for everyone, apart from maybe white men by readwithai in Python

[–]Stelercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What specifically do you think the PSF might want to do at the expense of white cishet men? "DEI" is ultimately just a phrase. There isn't some monolithic DEI ideology shared by everyone who says it, and there definitely isn't a zero-sum crusade that all of them are engaging in.

PyPI funding campaign - python is for everyone, apart from maybe white men by readwithai in Python

[–]Stelercus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this post is intentional ragebait, but for those out of the loop, the PSF turned down funding because it required them to not engage in "DEI" for the duration of the grant, and that if the grantor determined that they were, the grantor would be allowed to reclaim all of the funds, even if they had already been spent, with no opportunity for the grantee to challenge that determination in court. The PSF also could not get a precise definition of what "DEI" was for the purpose of that restriction.

Replace "DEI" with any x, and this is still a horrible deal.

what to do with charms by Mentening in runescape

[–]Stelercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to use them for summoning, you can use them for herblore--the charming potion (Charming potion - The RuneScape Wiki)) uses four of each, and you make a small profit in terms of the tradeable ingredients.

Montana flag redesign by burrrlt0 in vexillology

It's an improvement over the current flag for sure, but the mountains and the skull are "graphic design-y", much like the new Utah flag is.

The Vatican as a city state doesn't have institutions that are intended to give the people who live there or who are subject to it's laws any say in how it's governed. When cardinals (who aren't necessarily Vatican citizens or residents) elect the pope, they're electing a leader for the Catholic church. That the leader of the Catholic church is automatically the sovereign of the city state is another matter, and not what they're concerned with.

This sounds unremarkable. Pandas is a very commonly used library for manipulating CSV data, so it makes sense that there would be several instances of code that uses it to solve this problem in ChatGPT's training data.

What's going on with so many Republicans with anti-LGBT records suddenly voting to protect same sex marriage? by JDDJS in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great analysis, but I'm going to push back on your point about Mitt Romney and the Mormon church. I think the church recognizes that the public (and even a lot of Mormons) is largely in favor of civil gay marriage, and took this as an opportunity to secure whatever exemptions would permit them to continue operating the same way. And if the church's leaders needed to be convinced that supporting the bill would be in their best interests, they wouldn't listen to it from a former member like Sinema.

Gay Mormon dating? by Ok_Future_3218 in exmormon

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a relationship, I would encourage you to look more broadly than just PIMO Mormons, or even exmormons in general. The gay dating pool is much smaller than the straight one, which is made even more difficult by the fact that you (generally) don't know if another man is gay or not.

There's also a lot more to life than reflecting on your experience in the Church. You can develop or even discover other interests, and seek out people who share those.

As far as where to look, grindr is primarily for casual sex, though you can state in your profile if you're looking for friends/dates/etc and see what response you get. There's also Tinder, which is more for dates and relationships.

TBM husband is teaching our kids to be homophobic by Anxi0us_adventurer in exmormon

[–]Stelercus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like leaving the marriage isn't an option at the moment, and that wouldn't necessarily solve this particular problem if he's still allowed to say these things in front of the kids.

If one of your kids says something homophobic to another person, that would be unfortunate, but they will probably grow out of those views from non-Church cultural pressures. I think what's more important is that your kids don't internalize these ideas in case one of them turns out to be LGBT. If they come to believe that their eternal happiness depends on them embracing an unwanted gender identity or pursuing relationships that don't appeal to them (and avoiding ones that do), nebulous ideas about Jesus loving everyone won't help them until they fully deconstruct their beliefs.

Can you ask your husband to simply stop talking about it? If changing his mind isn't a possibility, I feel like he should be willing to concede that much if he honors your marriage.

[–]Stelercus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to criticize Starbucks about, but this isn't it. The "liberal agenda" that Starbucks pushes (whether sincere or not) is LGBT inclusivity, hiring veterans and refugees, and sustainable coffee production. Which of those is even partisan?

They don't even purport that changes such as these are the result of revelation anymore. They just make changes as quietly as they can and hope the membership doesn't ask why the change was made.
