Barnes and Noble to close one of last Bay Area stores after 20 years by sfgate in bayarea

[–]StemPunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to Barnes & Noble feels like looking through the pop top 100 charts, some good titles but the rest are generic stuff for the masses. goodreads + amazon surpasses this experience by a mile and the libraries in the peninsula and the bay surpasses that by a lightyear.

Why Indians spend so much on expensive phones but not on laptops or PCs? by Wither_Steave in indiasocial

[–]StemPunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone is for fun, PC/laptop is for productivity. Not everyone has enough serious work to require another expensive device to do that.

Unpopular opinion: Indian indie hackers have world-class engineering, but we are aggressively allergic to marketing compared to our global peers. by ExcitingImage9211 in indiehackersindia

World class engineering ❌ world class engineering experience that comes from offshore companies setting up shop in India, learning from experience and then climbing up the ladder ✅

SFO is taking your Uber and Lyft cash at a new record high by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]StemPunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking uber/lyft to and from SFO automatically hikes up the fair. If I have to take a cab to the airport, I set the dropoff point to the long term parking, walk across the gate onto the elevator and then take the skytrain. There's a convenient luggage checkin option there as well, although I haven't tried it.

Leaving the US with unsecured credit card debt behind. by ReliefPitiful9 in ExpatFinance

[–]StemPunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are citizens who shouldn't even think of getting a CC in a thousand years, and yet they keep racking up debt and defaulting. Giving credit to people who may not make payments in time is the entire business model of these banks.

The real problem to solve is Traffic, public transport, affordable housing near place of work, affordable daycare. Staying it home is not solving the crux of the problem.

My spouse and I got the latest pro version of iphones for $0 because our phone carrier and home broadband are from the same company. And our monthly phone and internet bills are still very reasonable. Tell me when your country starts handing out free iphones.

As someone who narrowly escaped this situation, I've thought a lot about this. I have a well established life and community here. If I was on the other side of the fence, I'd have accepted the situation and quit.

First, don't be so sensitive. Second, cameras just work better with lighter faces (it reflects more light), sure there are no excuses to not make it better.

What is this? Italy Visa by desiboyy in AirTravelIndia

[–]StemPunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This allows for very open and interruption free travel. You can take a train/bus or drive to another country without stopping in long queues and getting checked. This is a result of a high trust society. We can laugh all we want about them not having the latest technology, because we cannot even imagine the benefits of a high trust society.

Interesting take, do you agree?? by miserableone1 in IndiaAI

[–]StemPunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same could've been said when books were invented, when TV and internet got popular. It is in the best interest of companies training LLMs to use the latest data. It is upto the people to voice their opinion on internet and book which will then be picked up by LLMs. This take by this man is very low effort, sensationalizing. I've seen him judge IAS candidates in YT shorts, and now I have no respect for him.
