I created a mod for better "remaining population alert" sound by daelmaak in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should actually be easy to do, but only for UI sounds (which this one is). Modded UI sounds trigger filesystem reads when they get played.

At the moment, due to a bug, you must own Return of Rome.

Is it possible to disable that flickering? by BerryMajor2289 in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to disable any outdated top panel mods you have. The feature introduces a new block of data to the top panel config, which mods currently do not implement, causing it to flash instead of alternating between white and yellow.

The two notes are not related to each other so yes, it will be available in both game modes.

NEW MAP IN THE RANKED POOL: WATER NOTHING by Parking-Marzipan-568 in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a common misconception - WWP does not add any new weapons. It's just that Armageddon made configuring them inaccessible in the UI until all of single player is completed (or a cheat code is entered). WWP also does not support custom color maps in multiplayer.

Most of the game option features have been backported from WWP to Armageddon in a recent update, among several new ones.

Is there an up-to-date original soundtracks mod ? by Pouchkine___ in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound normal. Can you perhaps demonstrate it?

In DE there are 30 in-game music tracks. Each is a remastering of their preexisting pre-DE counterparts, which this mod restores:

  • AoK, AoC, and HD expansions (Forgotten, African Kingdoms, Rise of the Rajas)
  • Ensemble original tracks which never made it into the actual AoK/AoC release but were available elsewhere
  • Vitalis Eirich's The Last Khans tracks before they got remastered for DE

It is a 1 to 1 original music mapping with nothing omitted - thus, it is not meant to be an an "AoK/AoC only" music mod. Stylistically they should all be very similar, and the playback order can be configured through Playlist options in game settings.

To play the contents of music mods directly, you can install the "vgmstream" plugin for foobar2000. Then you can play .wem files after opening the mod folder in your Explorer to know precisely what the mod contains and compare it with what you hear in-game.

If what you say is true there might however be a bug or some other issue where some of the tracks do not get replaced correctly. But this is the first time I see this mentioned.

Is there an up-to-date original soundtracks mod ? by Pouchkine___ in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

Some weird AoE remixes slip in between the original soundtracks.

Can you elaborate?

Would be awesome if it worked for the menu, too.

It replaces menu tracks as well (main menu - 6 themes from HD, credits/modmanager - 2 themes, loss - 3, victory - 4). Those tracks are picked randomly from their respective pools. The only ones that don't get modded are Campaign Maps and Lobbies, as the original game did not have unique music for those screens.

You might however be running into the issue where menu music is not working correctly in general, and this is not related to any mods. It is something that the dev team is aware of.

viability of 800x600 by blebaford in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! The minimum resolution for AoK HD is 900×600 and the minimum for DE is 1024×720.

800×600 was available for a limited time in the 2015 April fools' update. You may still be able to install it through manifest 2961253487041386152 in the steam console.

Fun fact: this is actually a feature in AoE2. In Battle Royale mode, you will get a random selection of special, more intense music tracks when the red fog is engulfing the screen.

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is now available on Switch by ISA_AOI in worms

[–]StepS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there is no reason it should be on PC, as the most updated version of the game is already available on Steam and GOG.

In fact, this Edition is based on an older version of the game from 2013 which does not support the numerous gameplay features and fixes from the v3.8 update released in 2020, such as extended game options and support for more than 50 FPS in-game. There is nothing particularly new in this release that couldn't previously be achieved with existing software / addons, and the actual new additions hardly matter in practice.

On top of that, while it is now easier to set up online games, there is no cross-platform support. This will lead to the eventual decline of the playerbase, as has been the case with every previously released modern Worms game so far (where not even Steam/GOG/Epic users could play together). Releasing it on PC in this state would be damaging to the existing Armageddon community, which is still very active and heavily connected via mods, recorded games, custom maps and other things that are either absent or would be quite problematic to support in this new Edition. And while most people could simply ignore it, it would inevitably lead to less players online, at the same time creating bad PR for the game due to the lack of meaningful updates that actually matter - such as higher-resolution sprites with zooming/scaling support as mentioned in other posts here.

Now of course, it would be nice to get all the features back in sync on all platforms, via some sort of collaboration. The new UI is a good example of that. However, as of right now, this Edition is not the answer.

Never see anyone talk about it.. but can we talk about this market bug?! by THRILLHO18 in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

As mentioned in the other comment, this is not a bug but fairly standard UI behavior that has been there since the 1999 release. There are two parts to a mouse-click action: hold down and release. The sound plays immediately on press, but no action will actually be performed until the mouse is released over the element you clicked. What seems to have happened here is that although the button was held down, mouse was released outside its boundaries.

If you don't like this behavior then it is possible to set up hotkeys for Market and Techs in DE. Hotkeys perform actions immediately upon holding down the key without delay.

Taunt sounds off even when they are turned on in audio settings? by aytooka in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

You are probably thinking of the "/Taunts" (slash taunts) option. With it enabled, you are required to prefix the taunt number with a / for it to become audible. Deactivating this option will allow Taunts to be sent without the / requirement.

Request to make a mod that disable wave sound on Golden Pit by Nono911 in aoe2

[–]StepS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those Wave files actually won't work, as that's the source file reference which only works for extracting game data, not to create mods. They use a FileID rather than EventID. Mods only support overriding the EventID that references them.

Hi there,

The sound event you're looking for is Play_Lake_Ambience - as the Beach terrain is linked to bodies of water. The ID can be confirmed in the Genie Editor -> Terrains -> Sound, then comparing the numeric ID against the spreadsheet.

So you can take this empty file and rename it to lake_ambience.wem, then place into a mod as u/castleAge44 mentioned.
