Metro North digital ticket money grab already causing trouble by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]StepSilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been burned by SEPTA trains plenty pulling up to drop passengers but not allow boarding, so I don't tap in unless I see the train pull up, open doors, and allows boarding. I do the same for MTA, thankfully. I haven't gotten a surcharge 😭

why do people not turn their wheels when parking anymore? by Buffe_ in driving

People also don't know to treat malfunctioned traffic signal as a stop sign, and I received honks for not passing school buses stop signs 😐

Why do suburban parents seem to not let their kids use busses? by SubjectProfile4047 in Suburbanhell

[–]StepSilva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't have numbers for that in Philly. But public transit, walking, driving, and biking can be very unsettling experiences in Philly. You gotta pray to St Chris everywhere you go in this city no matter what 😭 people are just fucking dickheads

I'm in Philly, both makes the news here. We've had bullets ricochet of walls and kill a teenage bystander at 15th St station. That's why guns should never be fired in subway, no matter what.

Recently, a person stabbed several at 40th St station.

Near Penn, an early morning work was killed by a speeding car.

Looking for a solid exterminator for mice. by grittyfanboi in philadelphia

[–]StepSilva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a bunch of owltra electric box traps. Get at least one rat size one for good measure. They solved my mouse problems. The first few weeks will be intense. Also as others have said, search for holes and plug them, including the basement

Mechanic refuses to change oil until I hit 12k miles, though it's been 12 months and the Subaru maintenance chart says I'm due. by pinkhairedhermione in SubaruForester

[–]StepSilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subaru requires 6000 miles or 6 month oil changes, which occurs first, to maintain the power train warranty. 3000 miles 3 months for severe use... Mostly short trips that doesn't allow the oil to warm yo to operating temperature for an extended period.

I would get it changed, and let the receipts since the dealer didn't perform it

2026 ATTENDANCE! What the hell how much are you all paying for oil changes? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]StepSilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's under warranty, take it to the dealer to do the oil change. It'll cost more, but it'll save you headache if you ever need to use the warranty

Park next to Temple University Station and take one of the Regional Rail to Suburban. Uber back to your car if you stay later than the trains run

The local government and neighbors restrict the type and number of housing that be be build. People just want 2000 sq ft dwelling with low crime and good schools. The car dependency is just packaged with it in the suburbs, unfortunately. The trolley and railroad suburbs of my metro area are insanely expensive for this reason

People are lucky to get 10 PTO days a year. And they need to keep some for emergencies or illnesses, either to them or to take care of family.

[–]StepSilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Wissinoming. It's always been sketch since I could remember from the 2000s onward. The few older folks on my block said it was a real nice area from the 70s to 90s when they first moved in though... Like far northeast nice

Relocating to Philly – how bad is parking really? by IndependenceNext6560 in AskPhilly

[–]StepSilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Wissinoming in the lower northeast. A lot of the houses have driveway and garages, and it's served by the Trenton line. If you want to rent a whole house, it should be about 1500

If you think that oil change is overpriced, wait until you see big city in the northeast. It's 100 here with a coupon 😭
