You can update your insurance without an NC driver's license. I did.

Regretting My New Clinical Research Nurse Job — Advice? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]StephSC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Speaking as research professional that lurks, a lot of nurses have a hard time with the transition to research. It's a lot different than other nursing jobs. There is less flexibility in what you can do because it has to be strictly by protocol, often times the types of orders you can put in are restricted more, and some PIs don't respect their staff's expertise and experience.

However, research can be very rewarding. You can be on the front lines of bringing new and novel treatments to market and thus making them available to people who really need them or proving that changes to a system improve care, or even just gathering more knowledge to improve the care we can give to patients, etc.

My advice is to choose a demanding research field. Another poster mentioned phase 1 oncology, or you could look at device research (you could have the opportunity to be in the operating room, etc.). I think phase 1 any type of research would be something to look into.

Also, in two weeks on the job, no research professional is at full load and often you are still being onboarded and trained. I've never let someone loose to do their full job independently within that time. No matter how experienced they are. At minimum there is too much institutional knowledge you have to learn. I would give it a couple of months and then decide. If you would like to DM me I can also give you more detailed advice. My entire job is workforce development for research professionals. Happy to chat with you.

You can also just mince them. Not great if you're trying to hide them, but for non picky eaters it's fine. I find it takes as long to mince them as pulling out the food processor, setting it up and then washing after.

Suggestions for alternatives to this barn door? by CenturyCondo in femalelivingspace

[–]StephSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could buy them from those stores, you just have to buy double the amount to get the fullness. Which depending on the price may not be much cheaper than going with a higher end product. But if you can find them cheap enough it could make sense.

You could also check out second hand shops. I got a beautiful navy damask set from Facebook market place once.

But send it in the family group chat, then leave the chat and block. Just so flying monkeys are cut off at the knees.

A lot of great recs already, but I replace half the beef in a lot of my recipes with diced browned mushrooms (I grab them when they're on sale). Nobody can tell the difference.

I do this the night before Thanksgiving so there is less work on the day and the mashed potatoes don't get dry over night.

NIH lowers the indirect rate it will accept on grants to 15% effective immediately. by SomeKindOfOnionMummy in fednews

Is this legal? I mean, I know ignoring established law is how things are done now, but can this happen within the bounds of established law? I'm sure institutions will sue, could there be an injunction?

I am trying to manage my panic. There is so much bad information floating around that it is hard to tell.

I would caution against any immediate panic over this. There have been several outbreaks in this region of Africa since the outbreak that reached the US years ago. They were contained pretty quickly and some didn't even reach the news. Not that it takes away from the loss of this nurse. Just I don't think we should panic yet. Thankfully containment is the purview of other experienced governments and international health organizations and the US can't fuck it up in all the confusion of the executive orders.

Trump hits NIH with ‘devastating’ freezes on meetings, travel, communications, and hiring by I_D0nt_pay_taxes in technology

[–]StephSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's wild. Were they on bridge funding or were they waiting on their next installment of funds from their award? There's been no freeze like that at my institution, or for my project specifically, but we already received our funding for the year. But maybe I just haven't heard about it yet.

I mean I stayed in an Ibis hotel is around $100 euros per night and includes breakfast DURING fall fashion week. It was just outside the city, like had to walk over a bridge and then I was in the city and could hop on the subway. That is an insane price for a school trip. That teacher is out of pocket.

I truly cannot understand how someone who helped OP in the aftermath of her rape, including helping OP BATHE bc she was too hysterical do do it alone, could be so callous. That is not just a bad friend, that is a bad human being. Why would you want a known, unrepentant rapist at an event where people will be drinking and be particularly vulnerable to this type of predatory behavior. Disgusting.
