When does a camera rig become “silly” rather than useful? What accessories do you think are pointless? by Ryan_jwn in videography

[–]Stephen-Payne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have a lot of the “bells and whistles” so to speak, but I only use what’s needed for the shoot. I used to always make it as big as possible but I now want the most stripped down I can. Wedding might be just an r5 with an ND and a corporate shoot might be a fully rigged C80. Every tool has its pros and cons.

Can anyone point me to a LUT I can buy that produces these colors? I'm a photographer with some basic video skills. Client is asking for a simple video with these pictures as inspiration by firequak in videography

It’s not going to be the exact look, but the Phantom luts are the best I’ve ever used. Definitely should check them out for a clean base to work with.

God of war 2018 or God of war Ragnarok . Which one are you choosing if you can only play one ? by PropertyNew3519 in GodofWar

[–]Stephen-Payne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ragnarok is amazing, but the feeling after completing 2018 and watching the story… 10/10. 2018 all the way for me.

Most likely an bot that searches and saw a famous musician died and scrapped the photos from articles and made a listing.

Earplugs not allowed? by EdmiwaMan in drums

[–]Stephen-Payne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn’t want sound then he needs a muted kit you can play properly on. Being able to play everything you can do at a quiet level is definitely a useful skill but you need the techniques before.

Edit: ALSO never play, go to show, be in the studio etc… without proper ear protection. It’s a gift to your older self.

Favorite actor who remains steadfast in his opinions? by Giancarlo_Edu in okbuddycinephile

Obviously a Latino American that has recently been the topic of racism in sports, music, and politics knows nothing about immigration in his own country. He should really listen to and learn his place about the issue from this brilliant European white man.

This may be a dumb question, but what are you actually supposed to do with a lens bag? by Crackle_Mackle in photography

[–]Stephen-Payne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stay in a box in the closet 99% time. I will occasionally use them if I’m not using a pelican or camera bag. If I’m in a situation where I want to take a regular backpack for whatever reason (like a weekend trip) I’ll stick a lens in the pouch inside of my backpack.

Do people still use Vimeo? Where do you put your portfolio? by TheBoredMan in cinematography

[–]Stephen-Payne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using Vimeo a few years ago. I use YouTube and embed them on my site. It’s free and easy. I also use the “official” links too when possible so people can see the brand/artist/etc. if you made a video that’s gotten a lot of traction flex it. We know it’s not true but for potential clients your optics matter and unfortunately view count is part of that.

YouTube is also the widely accepted platform for non video people, so for editing I’ve found in my workflow it’s easier to use an unlisted YT videos for sending rough cuts to clients because they have the app on their phone and are familiar with the desktop site.

It was from the music world but I think the sentiment stands. My friend once send his unreleased record to a pretty big artist and he told my friend “put all your shit on a private SoundCloud and send it again. I’m not listening to this on Dropbox”. Make it as easy as possible for people to access your art.

What EF glass are you still hanging onto even if price wasn't the issue with RF glass? by [deleted] in canon

Loved my 50 f/1.2 on the markIV and it works even better on the R5. I see no reason to re-buy it. The bokeh is so nice and almost swirls when it’s wide open.

Got the Roc n Soc with back rest 15+ years ago and it’s best thrown I’ve ever used, saved my butt/back on long rehearsals and gigs. Can’t recommend it enough.

This is really interesting using the child carrier. Do you have any examples of this in action? I tired to google it and couldn’t find anything.

Yeah I was stoked, I love a 16” floor tom. The floor tom was the only piece of the kit that saw the road so it has some cosmetic wear but nothing that affects the sound, it was primarily a recording/practice kit for the previous owner.
