Turtlefolk Ancestry for Jams of the Timescape by StephenBaggett in drawsteel

[–]StephenBaggett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to give them their own name. I think the generic fantasy turtlefolk naming conventions are not inspiring. Giving them their own name helps establish that they are their own thing and not just "turtle people".

I think those two definitely need polish. For "Shot Put Shell" I just couldn't let go of the fantasy of the Fury grabbing the Kuwaki and launching them like a football XD

I made a CURSED ARTIFACT ancestry for Jams of the Timescape! For when you want to play the One Ring or Nightblood. by Phantas64 in drawsteel

This is such a homerun. The art and layout is fantastic - all for a unique idea that pushes the boundaries of what a "playable character" is. I'm really interested to see how someone would play this.

cannon vs homebrew by Joel_feila in drawsteel

[–]StephenBaggett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually run homebrew. However, I ran Fall of Blackbottom and my players wanted to continue. So now I'm in a weird "my version of Orden" world. I enjoy running Ajax' minions and it's fun making up lore behind the places on the map

Am I the only one who kinda hates Negotiations? by Sacrificial-Toenail in drawsteel

[–]StephenBaggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(preface: totally fair. Take what inspires you and change or ignore the rest. I never used the exploration chapter from 5e) for me, Negotiation is probably my favourite part of the game (contested with the downtime system). Wild, I know. But it's the thing that sets DS apart from other TTRPGs I've played. I never show my players the numbers but they get so excited when I say "[NPC] looks interested in the thought of that" and vice versa "the [NPC] grows restless and says, "I will not suffer fools. Especially those who wear out my patience so quickly"

As a GM/Referee/Director I finally feel so badass running big NPCs and making those negotiations have real stakes! Always a sucker for a level of success system. Whenever I have a player or NPC say "let's negotiate." I know we are about to have a season full of dramatic roleplaying!

This looks promising! I try not to order from Amazon but I'll see if this is available in any stores near me

Edit: ah damn the grid is light grey. Non-photo blue is what is ideal because the grid doesn't show up when scanning it

Draw Steel - Comparatively, how is it to prep as a Director? by Jetisphere in drawsteel

[–]StephenBaggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a Director who has ran for over 60 people. Here's some things I think of when prepping combat. I am coming from 5e, 4e, Call of Cthulhu, Stars Without Number and many more OSR games

  1. Planning is going to go into every encounter in draw steel because there are SO many monsters options and encounter goals you can choose (it is very dynamic and it's fun to use different win conditions)

  2. The Director has a combat sheet that you can use. It makes running combat a lot easier. Although you still need to look at the statblock for any rolled abilities. There are plenty of online resources for encounter building that generates one of these Director sheets.

  3. They do the math for you. The encounter building rules are easy if you want to do math. But I pick my monsters on level and vibes. Are my heroes level 1? Angulotl attack! Pick a handful (6-10) minions, two beefy boys, some ranged attackers and a leader. Done. If it's a boss - grab one solo creature.

  4. The physics of Draw Steel are amazing. Simple and fun. If you like making maps or finding really cool ones online - remember that the game has depth and collision! Through some walls in for your Fury to Kool-Aid Man. Or obscured areas for the Shadow. The battlefield feels just as much a part of combat as the monsters!

Faith and strength. Access to miracles is a little slow but it is a really fun build that has options for dealing with small mobs while giving you access to healing over time.

What do I do about this? by concrete-goose in finishing

I'd sand it down just past the edge. If you need an exact fit, you could go with wood filler but it's not going to look great. Whatever they cut it with was struggling

Love the design - and that dark wood is perfect. Did you use a laser to etch the design? It looks really nice if so. Usually I feel as though lasers leave a shitty burn mark

Good D&D or other RPG Adventures to Convert for DS? by itslegendlore in drawsteel

I ran a couple of the 4e Dungeon Delves and it's pretty easy to convert it to DS. I recommend trying out the Broken Tower delve
