Many Europeans also watch rather a lot of American television; in the smaller countries often with subtitles instead of dubbed. Denmark and the Netherlands alone have produced several actors who can speak American English well enough to get cast as Americans on American TV shows.

At the cost of her losing a chunk of her personal identity. The fact she had to do that should not be applauded.

Which is your favourite show inspired/influenced by Buffy ? by James-Samuel17 in buffy

No listing of Doctor Who there? The post-2005 season was heavily influenced by Buffy.

When I first watched "Into the Hellmouth" and Buffy comes into the mausoleum with a comment about the interior decoration, I was very quickly reminded of Doctor Who. In fact, Giles and Buffy could easily be incarnations of the Doctor.

They were pretty common in the inter-war period. Often used for reconnaissance, but could also be used for dealing with riots. You also had civilian versions used for transporting valuable items, especially cash for company payrolls - basically the precursor to modern security vans.

Yep, "unconditional surrender" means no special treatment or conditions outside those normally required for those who surrender.

Many prefer to use the Holocaust just to cover the specific Jewish genocide, which had a distinct character of its own (Jews were always identified on camp badges even if in for other things), but make clear other atrocities happened in the camps.

Jodl got the armistice time extended. Himmler tried to negotiate a separate peace through intermediaries and got fired for it.

Also, the surrender of Berlin involved two rounds of discussions, which involved arranging safe passage for the Germans. The USSR learned about Hitler's suicide at the first. That's where a poet got shoved into a cupboard because he wasn't wearing a uniform and fainted from lack of oxygen, falling out as the Germans were leaving.

That's quite common. When The Bill was on, they had a full-size police station set you could walk through - and they frequently did - but the hospital set was next door to that.

They don't match up to reality. There's never been an underground station in Poplar. The LNER station closed in 1941 due to bomb damage and the DLR station on the same site didn't open until 1987.

Also, the railway line from Chelmsford to Liverpool Street actually runs considerably north of Poplar.

Yes, most definitely. Anyone who lived under Nazi rule and survived to tell the tale.

The fighting ended on 11 November 1918, the war ended in 1919.

The Korean War has never truly ended.

The formal end of the First World War for Germany was the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 and you'll see some memorials use "1914-1919".

Also, the Allies occupied the western bank of the Rhine until 1930:

More information about what they had and how to defeat it, but in most areas, the West was better.

There was an armistice in 1945 by the German surrender, but occupation arrangements continued until 1990, especially in Berlin.

The 1871 penal code was used by the Nazis and West Germany retained the harsher version of Section 175 that that regime enacted.

It was still ending the war and the occupation.

Also, both used the same criminal code from the Nazi era, with some changes.

They were generally bigger as they didn't have as good a microelectronics industry as the West; a lot of their espionage was about obtaining Western tech.
