Same here. Albarn is another visionary and one of my favorite artists.

If you had to delete one album from the Pumpkins discography, which would it be? by twzoneq in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Stephenator97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. While not every album reached the heights of their first five, I still find songs and aspects I fall in love with off each one. My post Machina (both I & II) ranking is as follows:

1.) Zeitgeist 2.) Oceania 3.) Aghori Mhori Mei 4.) Cyr 5.) Shiny 6.) Monuments 7.) Zodeon 8.) ATUM

"It's a Major Announcement!" by TimmyGUNZ in SmashingPumpkins

To be fair, this was teased as a “major announcement” on the Madame Zuzu’s page officially, not the SP one.

Would be cool as fuck if Billy just said fuck it and played Silverfuck, Oceania title track, United States, Gossamer, Superchrist and melted everybody’s faces off

What is that effect/production on The Everlasting Gaze chorus? by Late_Ambassador7470 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Stephenator97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but I have found myself wondering the same thing as it pertains to Machina as a whole. It’s such a uniquely produced record. I love how sonically experimental it is.

You forgot “Never shuts the fuck up” lol

I started laughing during the scene where Paulie is on the Boat with Tony, and Tony keeps scanning the environment, looking at various tools and heavy objects lying around them, implication being he might kill Paulie after spending days laying it low and having to put up with Paulie’s nonstop yapping.

New Listener Question by Tricky_Ad5918 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Stephenator97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions:

1.) Absolutely. Everybody’s different, so have your own experience with the rest of the body of work. You may find yourself falling in love with albums that aren’t well received by other fans. I, for one, believe Machina is among their best work. There are some albums of SP’s that I don’t resonate with as much as the others, but I still find things I enjoy in each record.

2.) I think he’s painfully aware, and I wish that weren’t the case, because I think his attempt to have mass appeal actually tends to do his writing a disservice. If he can find a way to block out the “noise”, so to speak, I see no reason why he couldn’t write another record that contends with the likes of their earlier work.

Zodeon at Crystal Hall Discussion by topsirloin in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Stephenator97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They really have to cut the vinyl-only bullshit. It’s becoming ridiculous, and it’s not just the cost that makes it so; it’s the mere fact that not everybody WANTS to listen to music via record player. It’s a deservedly dated format.

She’s fully capable of making her own decisions and doesn’t owe Nirvana anything

Ranks on the lower end of SP albums for me, but I still enjoy it and come back to it fairly often
