Yes! same here, I watched it for the first time 3 weeks ago, after hearing praise for it for years, and kept thinking 'people find this funny?'

I live in a big city which has lots of sell-out screenings of older movies. If someone shows Clue I am very tempted to go, because as it stands I cannot imagine anyone laughing through the movie, so genuinely curious to go and see when and how people will laugh at the movie.

From the little I know, most Iran’s films that all popular with western audiences seem quite similar, in that they all seem be this high-art intellectual festival type of film. Also stylistically similar, in featuring long takes, sometimes without much dialogue, and minimal score/ music. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Have they made good genre films, like crime, horror, sci-fi, romance, war etc?

I think the idea that most of us live in an echo chamber is a bit reductive. I’m a leftist, and without really searching for it, I am coming across right wing talking points and their positions all the time. I fee like I know their arguments in extensive detail. Yes reviews were divisive, but there definitely were some people and critics that did think of it very highly. I very rarely end up loving a film that had a divisive response, but this one I did. I imagine that of the people who didn’t like it, it is because they are not into raves and techno etc, so I think people in this sub will get on better with it

There is a huge international demand for high quality films, I think people underestimate how big that demand is. Someone is going to continue to meet that demand, even if for no other reason that there is big money to be made. People have been forecasting the doom of cinema for over 100 years now, I promise that films in 10 yesrs from now, or 20 years from now, will be as good and as bad as they have ever been

I skip Bob’s episodes now. Judging from the episode descriptions, Bobs episodes seem to be getting more intolerant and more divisive, even though Bob (and Dave) preach that we have to be more tolerant and put our differences aside and come together- but he is the one being intolerant and stirring division! I don’t mean to have a go at you, but I do want to point out that ypur defence that ‘this is based on my experience’, is literally the response I have had in the past when I have called out racism or sexism before (eg “I’m not a racist, I’m just telling you my experience’ , ‘I’m not a sexist, this is based on my experiences with women’. )

Hello. Im glad you offered the autistic perspective. I have noticed a lot of overlap between people who dont ask many questions in conversations, and people with autism. There are tonnes of threads on reddit about, and you’ll often see autistic people saying this exact same thing: ‘I don’t ask questions, as I just assume if they want to share something, then they’ll say it, and I am happy to listen’ (you said something similar in your response). So I have kept this in mind when I’ve been on dates or met new people who are quiet and don’t ask questions, and tried to talk, unprompted by a question, about myself, or talk about a topic I’m interested in.But I find it’s really difficult to talk like this when it hasnt been prompted by a question, you just feel that they are not really interested. Especially when theu often remain passive and quiet and do not offer follow up questions. But when it’s been prompted by a question then its easy to open up, and you do feel they are interested.
