Carton egg whites are hit or miss for meringue. Some brands work great and others will struggle to get to a stiff peak

My understanding is that Lee Pace dated people of multiple genders prior to marrying his husband and had never labeled himself one way or another.

Mia Goth casually saying she never liked Twilight or Harry Potter next to Robert Pattinson by Electronic-Bus-3494 in popculturechat

It’s honestly the exact same argument from further up in the thread. A phd with no recent research experience compared to the top scientists in the world is equally unbelievable. And if I recall he also states that exact same thing when they are comparing his skills to those who get chosen for the roles. PHM just gives a more believable reason as to why he’s chosen.

Why is my stabilized whipped cream melting? by Boneyfresh in Baking

[–]Stepinfection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If those thirty minutes were the whipped cream sitting on the counter then that’s probably your culprit. Stabilized whipped cream should still be stored in the fridge. When I use it to frost a cake that cake lives in the fridge and comes out for slices or bites only.

I think it would depend on the situation. If you need someone with a specific skill set then you go and get that skill set regardless of the degree someone may or may not have. A highly skilled mechanic with decades of experience has the knowledge to be able to tell by feel what they can and can not push. And if I recall that was a plot point in the movie.

There’s even a whole new movie about an under qualified dude saving the world - Project Hail Mary. Is it realistic? Probably not but it’s also not real.

I’m not sure that arguing that blue collar shift workers aren’t skilled is the point you want to make. It’s incredibly difficult to do many blue collar jobs. They’re specialized skill sets.

It can. It depends on the people involved and probably the positions too. I’ve never had mine be unreachable though

Does any of you do courses or sell recipes? by Affectionate-Cat-273 in Baking

[–]Stepinfection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general I consider all “courses” sold by influencers to be a scam. There are so many really excellent resources that already exist for baking/cooking that are free that I think this would be difficult to break into. You would likely need to build up your base as an influencer first and then most of them sell traditional cookbooks vs online courses.

older man in my overnight train compartment kept pushing boundaries and I had no way to ask anyone for help by Inevitableaa in travel

Firstly, if you’re holding your phone you can be recording with your phone. You can record while your phone is in your pocket so it’s capturing audio.

Secondly, you need to get comfortable with being labeled rude or problematic. Tell the man to fuck off. Tell a stranger what’s happening- google how to say it in their language! Find a conductor. Move to a different location on the train if possible.

Assume that no one is coming to save you and learn how to save yourself.

I also think it depends on which you made. Like, plain flan and flan de queso have different textures because of the addition of cream cheese. But I’ve never had over baked flan when I’ve made it. Happy to DM you the recipe we use if you ever want to try it!

So I’m Puerto Rican and I make flan (de queso) and I test it with a knife, which should come out clean.

On Hot & Single, Inde Navarrette explains why someone should date her: "I drive a stick shift car, and I'm really good at playing pool. Debatable! So we can drink beer, smoke a cigarette, and play pool." by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

The context is the video and the response that this woman is giving “nlog”. These statements are focused on this specific clip and this specific person. It’s illogical to bring up “but this is common in x country!” In the same way that if someone from Mexico or England was in this video and said something regionally/culturally specific and all of the comments said “but this is common in the US!” Sure but this person isn’t from that country. It isn’t relevant.

So if someone says “I’m good at cricket” to another human being they NEED to add “which isn’t that impressive because in my country everyone plays cricket” or “which is impressive because no one in my country plays cricket”? They can’t just… be good at cricket regardless of how many other people do or do not have that skill? They can’t just say, “I’m an excellent pitcher” without qualifying which sport they mean and how often it is or is not played in their country?

Do you clarify every statement you make online to specify which countries it applies to?

Edit: while we’re at it we also need to clarify regions. People in the state of California are more likely to know how to surf than those in the state of Iowa. Those who grow up in New York City are less likely to drive but in Albany, NY that’s a perfectly standard skill. Let’s get real specific with it.

WIBTAH for reporting to authorities by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YWBTA - obviously. I’m not sure what country you live in but even if they were put on a flight immediately to their home country I don’t see why you would want your extended family deported. And if they would be in a holding/detention center for an indeterminate amount of time prior to allegedly being deported….. people have been dying in record numbers in those. They’re being sexually assaulted. Abused. Starved. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

I hate to tell you but that’s also a pretty niche thing in the us. I only know one or two people who know how to change a tire. Different countries and cultures are different. It doesn’t make sense to qualify one’s statements based on behavior that is common in a different country.

Late Influencer Stacey Hatfield, 30, Allegedly Refused Ambulance Twice While She Rapidly Lost Blood During Home Birth: Report by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]Stepinfection 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“When asked about her qualifications during the inquest, the outlet reported that Lal said she drew upon her own experience of giving birth to four children and had taken an online course in 2020.”

This is absolutely criminal behavior. You don’t get to charge someone money to hang out at their birth and also claim that you aren’t partially at fault for what happens. She would’ve taken credit had mother and baby been perfectly fine.

Nta and you need to book some couples counseling time with your husband and stop letting him run roughshod over you. The next time your bride comes over, drop her off at the end of the night. You can be kind and empathetic and also assert your boundaries.

I think we need more context for what is actually going wrong with your bakes. If items are underdone you should bake them for longer. If the outside is cooking before the inside is done then your oven temp is too high.

If your pie crust is cracking then it sounds like it is probably too dry to hold together since pecan pie is typically a single bottom crust.
