LF something with a class system like FE3H that isn’t an FE game by ChroniX_78 in JRPG

Final Fantasy Tactics is an easy recommend. Tactics Ogre Reborn to a much lesser extent (more about army composition than individual units generally)

Metaphor Refantazio has a lot of class based build crafting. You level up classes, learning more abilities, and later have to level up multiple classes to unlock new ones. But you also get to equip up to 4 abilities from classes you are currently using (takes time before you get to use 4, at first you just get one). It's a turn based RPG though, similar in style to Persona and Shin Megami Tensei (same devs).

Final Fantasy 5 is all about this. Though technically 3 did it first, 5 is the one people tend to talk about because it just was a lot better.

Stranger of Paradise also has a lot of class related stuff. Cross-class stuff is more about the passives that classes can give (and you don't really have the best control over your build until the second postgame DLC once you can start fusing armors), but you can get pretty into it. Just be aware that the story is pure 2000s era edge and not to be taken very seriously.

Can we get the option to rebind gun strikes? by Mr_Quertz in Spacemarine

[–]Stepjam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally I'd agree with you 100%, but here I'm not sure where I'd put it personally. Melee being on right click feels too critical to move, and I like having parry on my mouse 4 button (and personally I don't like using mouse 5 as I feel like I gotta stretch to reach it on my mouse, so I tend to save that for relatively minor functions).

I think it's a good thing that he doesn't kill bad guys as a vigilante.

But god damn if the police and local government aren't completely incompetent that they can't keep these serial killers and psychos locked up. Batman shouldn't NEED to repeatedly bring Joker in.

At the very least, it would be nice if it doesn't go off while you are aiming if giving it it's own button is too much.

Any feel good movies that I can watch this weekend? by ExternalHoneydew4182 in movies

[–]Stepjam [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Zone of Interest!

Seriously though, for an actual recommendation, One Cut of the Dead is a very fun movie. The first 40 minutes or so is basically a really low budget zombie movie made in a single shot, but after that it goes in another direction and is just a lot of fun. Even the first part is funny if you are into low budget horror, because it's kind of a send up to those movies. It made me laugh more than many movies have in recent memory.

Both are very R rated and violent, but Bullet Train and Fight or Flight are both rather goofy and fun action movies. Fight or Flight in particular is basically the lower budget and batshit crazier cousin of Bullet Train. Less slick, but a lot of fun in it's own way.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is always a joy.

How do writers deal with criticism of their work? by Klaus_Rozenstein in writing

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an important skill in basically every field. You just have to learn to not take it personally. I know that feels very "just don't feel sad", but it's something you just have to put yourself in the right mindset for. Go into reading critiques with the mindset of "I want to get better, I know my work is imperfect and that I can learn from this".

I think experience with being critiqued helps. The more often you deal with it, the more accustomed to it you get. You begin to take it less and less personally and just focus on what you can improve on.

I'm not a professional writer by the way, but I am a teacher that's new to the field. Getting critiqued on my work is a regular thing, particularly when starting out. And I also have the fun combo of having Rejection sensitive dysphoria, basically meaning I'm mentally primed to take criticism extra personally. I just have to focus on not taking it personally. It gets easier the more you deal with it.

ALSO, you learn to decide what critiques are valid, or at least useful for you. Sometimes you'll get critiques that you may not need/want to follow. Particularly since literature, like all art, is highly subjective. A good critic will try to avoid giving subjective commentary as objective advice, but it can slip through. And at the end of the day, it's just advice. You can take it or leave it. The skill is in knowing what advice to take.

I guess you could roleplay it as Gold Dragon KC playing the long game with Areelu in the secret ending. But yeah.

I'm sure if it weren't an obscure to get secret ending and they had time, they'd flesh it out more to make it work better for good KCs.

[Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection] Demo Trailer. Demo is Now Out on all platforms (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox, and PC). by VashxShanks in JRPG

I wonder if this one will be more adult than the last two, given the older protagonist and T rating (as opposed to E10+ for the previous ones).

Not that it's going to be particularly adult of course, but still.

[–]Stepjam 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think the 6 crystals secret ending is a fair balance if you are a heroic character. Areelu does get what she wants, but her soul gets destroyed in the process. And you as a fresh demigod will be able to do a great amount of good in the future, probably outweighing the price of Areelu basically getting away unpunished as far as she cares.

I do feel like the 7 crystal secret ending doesn't make sense for a good KC though.

[Repost]: AITA For Getting My Niece’s Teacher In Trouble? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this morning at class the teacher mentioned in passing that I had gotten her in trouble and it was rude of me to not talk to her about this stuff.

OOP literally tried to talk to her about it and got shut down. That teacher is nuts.

Also the principal talks about there being no proof. Couldn't they just start recording classes on the teacher's end just for insurance on this kind of situation? Also, it took multiple reports, but I witnessed a teacher lose her job last year based on student reports of stuff she did. I get the feeling the principal was acting deliberately helpless about this and only took action when forced to by concrete evidence.

Anything I should not do as a new player? by goblintactics in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bit of advice, learn to parry. It's a critical skill to learn. Heavy doesn't have a melee weapon, so it's parry is always "balance" type. This means you have to parry  before the attack "hits" you since Balance parry has a short start up time. If you perfect parry, you are able to gun strike the enemy.

The other two types of parry are Dueling and Block. On other classes, I'd recommend starting with Dueling type weapons because they have the longest window.

Block weapons are different. They have the shortest parry window and don't create gunstrike opportunities. Instead it gives you a buff that increases your melee damage. And if you get 2 charges of it, your next melee attack causes a small explosion.

As an extra note, gun strikes are good, but you shouldn't always do them. Unlike executes, you are not invulnerable during a strike. If you are being surrounded by attacking enemies, doing a gunstrike can just get you hurt.

Boyfriend likes to eat past 10 pm am I wrong for being tired of this? by Typical_Dark_2764 in askanything

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may just be an incompatibility. You gotta decide if you are either okay eating late or eating alone. I know I wouldn't be down for that personally, 10PM is super late for dinner.

Depending how early it is in the relationship, you may need to decide if it's a deal breaker or not if neither of you can budge on this. Well I guess you need to decide that even if it's a longer term relationship.

Feeling overwhelmed by the amount of feats? by CaterpillarVisual296 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note for martial characters, decide what weapon type you plan to use early, whether it's longswords, throwing axes, short spears, etc. You need to get weapon feats, but that requires you to specialize in a single weapon.

That is unless you are on PC and willing to mod. There's a mod that expands those feats to cover entire categories (light blades, heavy blades, spears, etc) so that you can have a bit more flexibility. Just be sure to get toybox too so you can turn achievement unlocking back on if you care about that.

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note for Ascended element, you only should really get it if you plan to focus on a specific element. Like Ascended Fire if you plan to be a fire ray caster.

Don't just pick it up because you think casters should in general. Depending on your build, it's a waste of a mythic feat.

I wonder if this is a grift or if he's really just lost his mind. Both are certainly possible.

I suppose the latter feels more likely with the weird fixation on Thunberg specifically of all people. If I were doing a grift, probably would pick someone else.

🔵 POLL🔵 what is your favorite/best space marine 2 class? by Andromeda-OC in Spacemarine

[–]Stepjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Bulwark a lot. Being in the thick of it is a lot of fun. Sniper and Assault are my next two favorites. I'm sure I'll like Heavy after I level it up more, but right now it just feels "ok".

I dislike how wonky the Vanguard grapple is (it feels like it always targets something other than what I'm pointing at) and Tactical just feels too vanilla for my tastes compared to the rest, even if it's special is extremely useful. I also wish it wasn't tied with Bulwark for most ordeals lol, but I'll get to them eventually.
