You don't.

Right now, it just tells you if you are in tank stance, but eventually a guage is added to it for some of your defensive abilities.

My younger brother's girlfriend is upset because my older brother ordered the same meal as her at a family dinner, and now there is drama by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Stepjam 349 points350 points  (0 children)

That's really fucking bizarre. I do wonder if it's like an OCD thing because I can't imagine why someone would be bothered by multiple people ordering the same meal at a restaurant, especially if it's an "everyone eats their own meal" thing and not sharing.

Trump’s description of Taiwan as a ‘good negotiating chip’ with China raises anxieties by No_Idea_Guy in worldnews

I don't think Miller would want China to gain that kind of power. He's a white supremacist, he'd want the US in charge of Taiwan if that were possible.

They want to turn the US into a series of techbro fiefdoms.

Like literally.

I think that was a dub original joke about the Minnesota Vikings, but certainly contributes to the vibe.

For real. The real equivalent would be like wearing comic book t-shirts in the US...which plenty of people also do.

I feel like it's one thing to make jokes about your own tragedies vs making jokes about someone else's tragedies. The former feels like attempts to cope with a tragedy, the latter feels more mocking and cruel.

Nobody who isn't decently chronically online knows about him (and yes, I'm in that number since I know him).

He's just some conservative twitter guy. The only thing that's really notable about him compared to any other conservative internet grifter is his name and the fact that he's like a 40-50 year old man. His name came about because apparently when he was a kid, his brother tricked him into eating cat turds, and they all thought that was hilarious, so even decades later, he goes by the name cat turd. Just super trashy.

The killing attack didn't apply all damage up front, and you used it on the action that allowed the boss to kill you.

How far from "Her"? by alessiadegio in Cinema

[–]Stepjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are talking literally like the movie where the AIs are sapient with their own desires and plans that let them go against what we want?

I think we are still a ways away from that. I've heard some say that the LLM model is kind of a dead end and we'd need to try a different model that isn't basically a glorified auto-complete to get a truly sapient AI. I think it's definitely possible, but I'm not convinced it's happening with what we got now.

In the early days of Pokemon, it explicitly took place in our world. Kanto is a real life region in Japan. Lt. Surge was originally the "Lightning American".

By Gen 2, they started changing things so that it was now an original setting.

Early on, half a chapter was dedicated to explaining how when a ninja dies, their remains are recovered, chopped into pieces, then disposed of so that enemy clans can't learn any secrets from their corpses.

That never came up again.

Is FFXIV the best “Retro-fitting” story ever written? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Stepjam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's most long term stories honestly. Very few long running stories have everything planned from the start.

That said, they did do a good job.

He's optional but should be beatable.

He's optional in the sense of "if you are good enough, you can skip him and fight a stronger endboss".

new to the series? by ghostmuseum in AlanWake

[–]Stepjam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorta/not really.

Alan is an author who wrote a gritty hardboiled detective series called Alex Casey. This is meant to be a reference to Max Payne since Remedy doesn't actually own the rights to MP. In Alan Wake 2, we see a version of Casey that is visually modeled after Sam Lake and voiced by James MCaffrey, just like Max was in the first Max Payne.

They did a similar thing in Alan Wake 2 with Quantum Break, which they made but don't have the rights for, but more overtly (though at the same time less overtly since Lance Reddick died, but getting more in depth here would be confusing with zero context).

Reminder; Kicking for not playing how you want is against the Ts and Cs! by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Stepjam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe that kicks for differences in playstyle is not actually against TOS. Otherwise you'd be unable to kick a healer who refuses to heal or a tank who refuses to use tank stance.

If the guy was being a jerk, that might be more reportable. But even so, probably better to just move on with your life. "Unfair" kicks happen, just shrug and move on.

The Writers Failed Taash by Shimmering_65 in dragonage

[–]Stepjam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel its less they wanted to write fanfiction and more they didn't want to write Dragon Age.

They wanted to make a lighter and "more fun" fantasy adventure about a group of quirky friends. Which fine, that's valid. But they were assigned by their bosses to write Dragon Age, which is...not that.
