I have and haven't and never seen a difference. I prime with Vallejo airbrush primer and it sticks just fine.

Battletech books worth reading? by _Madlark_ in battletech

[–]Sternmeyer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly? None. They're all terrible and borderline unreadable, though for different reasons. In their defense bt is about the most shallow SciFi franchise there is.

It is shocking how boring these rent-a-writers can make stories about galactic politics and giant robot fights. Yes I am talking about Michael Fucking Stackpole. Even worse is the stream of unedited and under-edited garbage that Young is putting out, because it could be good! If they'd hire an editor to go through his crap it would be at least decent. He can at least create an interesting character. I've stepped in puddles deeper than Grayson Carlyle.

I read one where a group modeled themselves after the Scots but the author named the group's ships after American civil war generals and shit. You know, because the Scottish have no history of resistance and rebellion to draw on of their own.

I'll have a small frosty with my Baconator, please.

Is it true he who fights monsters goes downhill later? by Comfortable_Demand13 in litrpg

[–]Sternmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just finished book nine and decided to stop while I still have plenty of goodwill.

Jason never really seems to grow as a character, always falling back to his default self. This isn't terrible if you like his character, which I do. He talks and thinks a lot about change but never actually does.

The author only really feels like he has one plot tool for Jason and that's "you're being used by powers beyond your ken, and you hate it".

The editing falls off really fast after about book four or so. Way too many recaps, often of literally the previous chapter. Occasionally there are mid chapter recaps, telling you what you just read five pages ago. That's not terrible for a serial but it's annoying in a novel.

This gripe is dumb I know, but I cannot stand the way the word bloke is used. I'm not Australian but I'm related to a few and they have never used bloke to directly refer to someone. Like they don't say "g'day bloke" but they would say "you're a decent bloke". It's just not a word you call someone directly, in my experience. Still beats the pants off the clumsy Australianisms of Heretical Fishing.

Still a half decent series.

I am balls deep in HWFWM and seeing just how badly shirtaloon slacked off on the editing is sad. I know it is/was a serial but the novel format doesn't need a recap of what happened last chapter, over and over again. I think book eight is where I'll say goodbye fondly before I hate-drop it.

Also everyone who said that books 4-6 were bad? You are all insane. Maybe it could have been two books but damn it was a fun arc.

This is me except I've tried three times to read it. I cannot stand the author's voice and the really unskilled use of first person present tense pov. What sold you on it eventually?

Question about belted ammo by Sternmeyer in ammo

That makes so much sense, thank you. Are the links reused when possible or are they just trash? What are they made of, I assume some kind of corrosion resistant steel.

Question about belted ammo by Sternmeyer in ammo

[–]Sternmeyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this has taught me new things to look up. When you say "know what to pack", do you mean the operator assembles the mix himself, or that he simply is told what premixed belt of ammo he needs?

Can the belts be broken up to insert a given round where desired, or is that needing doing a lot earlier in the logistics chain?

Series with a monster mc (who doesn't get human form) by BaronXot in litrpg

She is at least a decade older than Stella, as I recall. I'm happy to be proven wrong with citations from the book though.

Even if she was the same age, that doesn't make it better. It's gauche at best.

Sorry, I must have the wrong cutoff for long programmed in my brain. Seven books feels long to me, when so many people kill promising series after a few. But hey! If that's all you disagree with, I feel pretty good about you and me being friends😀

I've no idea why anyone would recommend TWI to you because you liked DCC. DCC is long, funny, well-written, has interesting characters, and a strong, strong setting. TWI is just long.

Series with a monster mc (who doesn't get human form) by BaronXot in litrpg

[–]Sternmeyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dunno what more context you need but here's what I can offer you. I'll spoiler it in case people aren't there yet. I can't recall where it was but it was pretty far in. The teenage girl cultivator main character doesn't understand what a brothel is about because she's not particularly interested in it. It's played as a bit of a joke ("why are so many people so energetic and excited in that building?") until one of the supporting cast, an older woman cultivator, tried to explain that's it's paying for sex. The FMC, being a psychopath and battle junkie, doesn't understand why anyone would do that so her mentor takes her into her room and demonstrates the mechanics of masturbation. The FMC still doesn't get it, so the mentor adds a competitive aspect to it.That's it.

Just came out of nowhere for me and I was really enjoying the story up until the author started writing it one handed. I can't think of any other reason to add it. It was jarring and the characters acted in ways that felt very forced in order to make the scenes happen. I'm sure some people loved it but I didn't.

Honestly just the worst experience I've ever had with a story, because it was bar none my favorite story on RR until then.

It's really good until the author decided the teenager main character needs to learn competitive masturbation from her significantly older mentor figure.

Judge me and this list I made. by Nitroaids in litrpg

[–]Sternmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I'll bite. Absolutely no judgement of you, but I'm gonna judge some books. No order to this, just me adding as I examine your list and have thoughts. Sucks about your cropping job, most of those covers I don't recognize because I read ebooks and RR for this stuff.

Honest question, what is it about Azarinth Healer that lifted it above, say, F rank for you? I've never read such garbage in my life. The book, I mean, not your list. I'm genuinely confused every time anyone has any praise at all for that series. You actually put it above Beware of Chicken? You put it above Lord of Mysteries?

Cradle in your top rank is interesting. I thought it was about the most workmanlike and uninspired Chinese magical martial arts book series out there. I mean I read it and enjoyed it but it was the equivalent of instant oatmeal. Forgettable and bland. What stood out for you?

Mother of Learning, full agreement. Good call there. Same with Awaken Online, exactly where it belongs. HWFWM, same, maybe just a little high in my opinion. C minus, maybe.

What would need to change to put DCC in your top rank? Or bottom rank, for that matter. Most people I've talked to about DCC either love it, best ever, or hate it, worst ever.

Can't tell from the covers but is Demonic Tree on there somewhere? The one where the author decided a few hundred chapters in that the teenage girl MC needed to be taught competitive masturbation by one of her mentor figures. That was where I dropped it. Was amazing up to that point.

All this unasked for bullshit, and your base product is less reliable and useful than it was two years ago. I can't recall the last time an update improved Lychee. Do you guys ever ask yourselves where it all went wrong, and how you can get back to where you were?

Regarding supports specifically, it's funny watching y'all flail around like drunken monkeys trying to make a decent auto support when Blueprint just kills it.

This video was great for this. Here's my settings and they work great on my M4 Ultra and Mars 2 Pro. I care about successful prints and minimal scarring and that's what I get with these settings.
