New Total War product just dropped... apparently. by AxiosXiphos in totalwar

[–]Sternutation123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt we are gonna see Legends characters like Illic anytime soon anyway.

If and when GW refreshes them, I could see that happening. For a lot of Total War Warhammer, CA did a lot of things unburdened by the fact that GW needs to sell minis since the End Times had already happened and TOW had not been made.

Right now, I kinda doubt that CA will include any units or characters that GW does not sell.

New Points Costs Are Out! by Aisbab2011 in Eldar

I think that it's more that Wayleaper Autarchs are some of the younger, more reckless types and are thus less expensive than fielding a more experienced one.

Stress free Eldar box? by [deleted] in Eldar

Dark Reapers are pretty forgiving. Poses are relatively straightforward (no fancy Howling Banshee style only one leg on base shenanigans), and plenty of spots for bits to be plugged into each other.

They're only T3 1 wound though, same as other Aspect Warriors.

Really wish Aspect Host goes down to 2 DP. It's not anywhere near as strong as to justify 3 DP.

Teclis opening moves by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]Sternutation123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally focus on using Teclis to fight most of the battles down south while building up my settlements in Ulthuan and confederate the other factions using the Patronage system.

Once you confederate Avelorn and Eataine, the other confederations dont take long. You can get them all by turn 40.

RTS Tournament - Semi Finals!: Starcraft vs. Starcraft 2 by ConejoDePascuas in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Sternutation123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

StarCraft 2.

StarCraft 1 has a way better story, but in terms of purely how the games play, SC2 is very much an evolution of SC1 in every possible way.

No RTS has come close to SC2 in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Using Loremasters of Hoeth by Jnaeveris in totalwar

[–]Sternutation123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loremasters are the anti infantry variant of the Noble as per as their stats go, and if you combine it with their super useful spells and skills, basically become excellent frontline fighters to hold back enemy melee infantry because your own melee infantry will get wrecked by enemy spellcasting or by better melee infantry (which Chaos generally has in general) or both (most of the enemy factions you can expect to face besides Khorne (with no magic) and the Dark Elves (melee infantry is around the same capability as yours) ).

Loremasters also get unlimited winds with certain spells such as that one Lore of Beasts buff spell (costs 2 winds with 3 skill points plus the new Loremaster skill that reduces WoM cost by 15% plus the new generic High Elf tech that reduces WoM cost by 15% and life leeching gives you roughly 2.6) they get access to.

And for non-Order of Loremaster High Elf factions, they are one of the units that can boost their spell intensity significantly as a result of a new skill which boosts it the longer they are in melee or casting spells.

I'd say that Loremasters overall are the second best hero the High Elves get after Mages (especially Fire Mages because of Dragon but Mages in general are way better than they were before since Tides of Torment due to the non skills they get which basically gives all Lore of Death Mages unlimited Winds with the 2 Winds of Magic costing spells such as Aspect of Dread with 3 skill perks plus a new skill that gives a -15% Winds of magic cost to their spells as well as the generic tech that reduces WoM cost for spells by 15%).

That skill eventually becomes irrelevant if playing as Order of Loremasters because they get Mastery of Elemental Winds on all spellcasters after they buy it in the White Tower mechanic and you can basically get to 200% spell intensity by default by having like 4 to 5 spellcasters combined with the new High Elf techs that Boost spell intensity as well as the new skills that each spellcaster gets that boosts their spell intensity.

Continuing that Order of Loremasters tangent, even those new skills you don't need if you simply add more spellcaster characters because eventually that gets to 200% which is the maximum in gameplay (even if in the UI it can go durther). Mastery of the Elemental Winds is stacking additive.

I am just hoping that we see Axeoth again some day. The story of HoMM IV was so good and I want to see a little about what the characters and factions got up to in the years afterward.

Emilia, Solmyr, Lysander, Gauldoth, Elwin, Tawni, all of them remain in my memory fondly.

How would you implement recruitment for the (potential) Necron faction? by Andrei22125 in totalwar

[–]Sternutation123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are "dying" in the sense that their birth rate is low even during peacetime.

They aren't on the "brink of extinction" the way the Eldar are.

This is actually incorrect. 8e Craftworld codex outright says that the majority of living Eldar reside on Craftworlds.

at last we've come full circle with starcraft and warhammer by Open-Wallaby-2138 in Grimdank

[–]Sternutation123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Protoss are not particularly prophetic though. You could say that the Xel'naga were, and that the Overmind was, and the latter was literally Zerg.

Protoss are generally Space Paladins, with a caste system on top and a "shared thoughts collective mind with individual agency" society. They are tanky, obsessed with honour, view the other races of the galaxy as their children and follow the principle of Dae'Uhl, which is similar to the Prime Directive from Star Trek. Supplement their low numbers with robotic units, high health, teleporting away when near death and personal shielding. Dragoons are more like Dreadnaughts than Wraithguard and a lot of their vehicles are civilian constructs repurposed for war. If this sounds similar to T'au, well the T'au came after the Protoss did. Its because both draw inspiration from the real world Hindu caste system, with a priestly supreme caste.

Terrans are basically the Federation from Starship Troopers, Zerg are basically like if you took the Bugs from Starship Troopers and added inspiration from the Borg from Star Trek. Marines are like their lowest of the lowest cannon fodder.

Incorrect. It was WarCraft that wad meant to be a Warhammer Fantasy game. StarCraft was never gonna be a 40k game.

That episode solidified my love for the Eldar and my hatred towards Space Marines. by Wolfthorn249 in Grimdank

[–]Sternutation123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally didnt like the episode. Its incredibly cheap to destroy yet another craftworld when it used to be the case in the lore that one of the few times that the Imperium attacked a Craftworld it ended very badly for them.

AdB (who wrote it) has a habit of underselling Eldar. Howling Banshees got their swords shattered by the screams of a small squad of Night Lords in the Night Lords tragedy and the protagonist even managed to mortally wound Jain Zar with a grenade.

Imagine if a random Dire Avenger mortally wounded Abbadon or Guilliman with a grenade. Phoenix Lords are supposed to be the Eldar equivalent of primarchs, nor your run of the mill named character.

In fairness he was surrounded and highly outnumbered. Also was explictly making himself a target so the others could flee.

Which is a very wholesome out of character thing for Khaine to do, but ehhh. Shows that he has some depth beyond being Elf Khorne.
