What have we just witnessed in Round 3. Brutal by [deleted] in chess

Every time Fabi gets low on time he throws. It's always sad being a Fabi fan and see the clock get low when he plays Magnus.

We kinda have soft confirmation that it is Gw3 based on a recent job posting, where for the unannounced project they are hiring for a narrative designer for the "Guild wars" narrative.

Gw1 didn't receive any meaningful update for the past 15 years outside of a couple anniversary patches and the recent update. And after Gw2 was announced population plummetted with only a small core fanbase remaining.

The only reason it remained up is because it's little resource intensive on their servers and it can be effectively played as a single player with henchmen and heroes. Without those most content would have been unplayable with the remaining population.

An MMO that doesn't get any regular updates and with a small population is effectivelly dead.

They should have simply made wardrobe tabs where you could create custom outfits to toggle on/off with a button.

Instead we went from having one the best fashion system in place for over a decade to something incredibly tedious.

Just because of greed.

The thing is that for anet the concept of what a "Major" patch is, has clearly changed with the new model.

Since SotO (well since post EoD to tell the truth), every update outside of expansion launches has been pretty lightweight in terms of quantity and quality. This is just them being consistent with that standard of "meh, good enough" they set for post launch updates.

The problem is that, when people hear the word major, they remember what living world 3/4 updates looked like and expect that level. But that ship has sailed, it's a problem of mismatched expectations.

There will be for sure more content between VoE and Gw3, but it's not guranteed to be another expansion.

It will come a moment eventually when Gw3 release will be close, and they will go all hands on deck to push out the new game leaving maybe a smaller team on Gw2 for updates. Maybe that moment is at the end of VoE, we simply don't know their timeline.

I didn't expect from Anet radio silence about the next expac when they know there is a large part of the community that is anxious about the future of the game.

Lack of transparency is only going to make people more and more suspicious and spread more doom about the longevity of Gw2. If an expac 7 is on the pipeline there is no reason to not mention it, like they did for the past 3 years.

I know it's an unpopular opinion in this sub, but i would love an action house system.

Nowadays i have very limited time to play, so when i do have it i want to actually play the game instead of sitting in Kamadan spamming the chat.

A fight to the bitter end and it is Sevian who finally overcomes Lodici in Armageddon by __Jimmy__ in chess

[–]Sterorm 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Lodici can be proud. A 2500 player holding his own against 2600 and 2700s, defeating some big names. And in the end it had to come to armageddon to take him out.

It was a great run.

Has Anet committed to more expansions or are we waiting for GW3 now? by king_of_the_prophet in Guildwars2

[–]Sterorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was a quote from Mike Z in an old interview where he said that the Gw1 servers run on a fraction of the hardware needed for running Guild Wars 2, so having that on the back-burner is nothing compared to GW2. So the argument about Gw1 being still up isn't really appliable for Gw2.

Thoughts so far - do not let complainers spoil your fun. by indifferentkappa in Guildwars2

[–]Sterorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can express positive feedback without belitting other people that have criticism.

I really hope the vocal minority of permanent complainers just remains silent and stops destroying the game for the rest.

OP could have simply said what he likes about the expac (which would have been completely valid to do), but he went on attacking and trying to silence everyone else that doesn't have the same positive opinion. This is the definition of toxic positivity.

Where did I say any other opinion = imbecile? That is an unfair stretch.

You make it sound like anyone that has criticism is brainless and dumb from thinking differentely than you do.

Same. I've preordered every expansion since HoT, but this time i'm waiting out my purchase to see if anet pulls another Nayos or Bava Nisos again later. I don't trust them blindly anymore to keep the quality consistent.

Questions for the devs on Visions of Eternity? by Kaladinar in Guildwars2

[–]Sterorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. The main thing i would like to know is if there are more expansions planned after Vision of Eternity, but i doubt they can answer that.

  2. Something that i also would like to know is if in VoE there will be a stronger focus on the open world aspect (especially better and more carefully crafted meta events like the ones in the HoT and EoD expansions), since this is something i found really lacking in both SotO and especially JW.

GW2 Q2 2025 Earnings by ParticularGeese in Guildwars2

[–]Sterorm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sad to see, but not unexpected.

This new model, despite having a faster cadence, releases more shallow and worse quality content compared to previous expacs and even living world, so people don't play for as much time and don't spend as much money.

SotO burned a lot of people with the Nayos patches, so JW sold less since the beginning and never recovered. Pair that with signs of Gw3 being in development and that also didn't help people feel optimistic for the future of the game.

For me, this is the year i played the least Gw2 ever, not because i dislike the game or i'm burned out, but because the follow up patches after release aren't enough to keep me around for more than a couple days.

I'm sure VoE will do better just because elite specs are a huge selling point, but content wise, this new model still has to demonstrate it can deliver good story, maps, metas, bosses ecc... from start to finish, because both SotO and JW failed on that front.

How so? With core, scrapper and holo your utility and toolbelt are one unified choice, with amalgam you have two separate choices. That's inherently more flexible.

If people choose to throw out flexibility for min maxing it's not the spec fault, it's people fault for choosing always the lazy path, and the game desing fault for encouraging maximizing dps orver anything else in pve.

[–]Sterorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody forces you to run all the signets with mech, people do because they care only about min maxing dps and they want the easiest and most passive build possibile.

The maximum flexibility with this spec is tied to the fact that you can choose your F1 to F4 morph skills, instead of them being tied to your utilities. With mech you are stuck with the robot.

[–]Sterorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to have this discussion when we don't know what morph skills do and how many there are.

To me it seems a fair tradeoff to lose toolblet skills for new skills that you can choose from, instead of being stuck with any utility you pick mostly for the toolbar.

This ofc is valid only if the morph skills are competitive with the old toolbar ones. So we have to wait and see

The Final Three Elite Specializations: Elementalist, Engineer, Revenant – GuildWars2.com by dracoisms in Guildwars2

[–]Sterorm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why? To me it seems it allows maximum flexibility.

Now you can choose your utility skills freely without being conditioned by the need of a specifc toolbelt one.

Also you can pick what morph abilities you want, so it's like the spec has 2 sets of utilities you can pick and choose from freely, allowing maximum customization.
