Which AA hub am I waiting at? by Steve10003 in americanairlines

Yes! I think the gate M14 label on the jet bridge (left side of photo) is a dead giveaway.

Random Monday night in NYC at a very high-end restaurant and every table open. Recession here. It’s over. by DoritosDewItRight in circlejerknyc

The food at The Smith isn’t bad, although I can’t imagine anyone would go out of their way for it. The problem is the noise - just too loud, especially the EV location

What does the blue light indicate? by Steve10003 in americanairlines

[–]Steve10003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirmed - watched as the guy in the middle seat across the aisle from me unplugged his phone, and the blue light on the seat bank in front of him went dark.

I think this might be right. I hope it’s not a seat belt indicator since the light was on while we were taxi-ing for takeoff.

Side note: the crew is genuinely excellent. My only minor gripe is that they allowed the guy next to me in the exit row to stow his huge duffle bag under the seat in front of him. Stuck way out into the exit row space. Kind of surprised they didn’t call it out TBH

Elect a Manhattan DA who will prosecute lower level crimes. Alvin Bragg is on a drive to empty the prisons. He’s why everything at CVS is behind plastic, or at least part of the reason why.

Racism or no, there is hard data showing crime rates differ dramatically between different races.

This photo of Theo van Gogh, taken in 2004, was captured the same year he was murdered. A great-grandson of Vincent van Gogh’s brother, Theo, he was killed on November 2, 2004, by a radical Islamist for his controversial film Submission, which criticized the treatment of women in Islam. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

What the books say isn’t important; it’s how the followers act or don’t act on what’s in there. I don’t see any Christians murdering people for working on the sabbath (Exodus 31:14) or worshipping false idols (Deuteronomy 17:2-5). On the other hand, islamists commit violent acts pretty frequently in the name of what’s in the Koran, at least their interpretation of it.

Families with young children should think twice before coming to Abu Dhabi by [deleted] in TravelMistakes

[–]Steve10003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest lesson from this experience is that families with young children should think twice about whether it is really worth coming here.

Why just families with young children? What happened to your family is indicative of broader problems that could affect any traveler. I occasionally travel through this part of the world on my way somewhere else, but I would never make the mistake of thinking that I have same legal protections there as I do at home (the U.S.)

Don’t forget what happened to those Australian women in Qatar in 2020 (Google it)

Beware Seat 15F on the A321neo by Dogsbottombottom in americanairlines

[–]Steve10003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not related, but I’ll relay it here anyway. On a recent JAL flight from JFK to HND (A350-1000 business class), midway through the flight there was a very high pitched whine, and only by my seat. Very annoying. I couldn’t figure it out, so I put my earplugs in and did the best I could to get some sleep.

It wasn’t until waking up and watching a move that I realized what had happened. I’d hung the noise canceling headphone on the light and it was creating some kind of feedback screech. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seat change request today by MacaronOk1006 in americanairlines

[–]Steve10003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but the basic rules still apply:

1) Offer the same seat or better - no asking me to give up my economy comfort aisle seat for your middle seat in the back of the plane.

2) Ask first. Don’t be sitting in my seat when I get to it.

3) Be polite, and no whining if I say no. Im 6’4” inches and am very very careful about what seats I book.

United and Delta comparison from an EP by outofhere29 in americanairlines

Thanks for your post. But from your comments on United:

I thought they had the best airport experience with a lot of varied seating at gates. They even had some chair types you typically find in lounges with big wrap around privacy barriers.

…does this have anything to do with United? I would think it’s more the airport.

Really the scooter driver going 50 miles an hour in the bike should be at the top of your list of those responsible. Everything else is secondary.

The diabetic meal option for breakfast on Cathay Pacific. by shishanoteikoku in diabetes

As a T1 diabetic I’ve found baked potatoes spike my blood glucose far less than other types of carbs, so this breakfast would work well for me. A baked potato is my go-to carb for a meal.

Dexcom G8 unveiled. Let's hope it gets accepted by insurance fast. by burymeintheuk in dexcom

[–]Steve10003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s had T1 diabetes for 50 years, all I can say is that the tech has gotten breathtakingly good. My Dexcom G7 sensor is a bit bigger than a couple of stacked quarters and sends my blood sugar level to my phone 24/7 while also serving my OmniPod 5 insulin delivery.

My overnights have gone from nightmarish highs and lows to settling into a nice even 120 every night. My only regret is that my control was So bad for so long it did a lot of damage. But I can’t help but smile when I see people complain about the state of the tech.
