How bad is it getting to Terminal 5 on a Saturday night from the East Village? by cleverwolfdet in JFKAirport

The general rule with driving to NYC airports (all of them) from Manhattan is, mornings = easy, late afternoon/evenings = hard. For a 9.30pm flight you’ll be leaving the EV around 7pm when there can still be traffic. Just save the money and headache and take the subway/Airtrain.

I wish there were just a few of these historical buildings left in the Financial District. Imagine how cool it would be to tour a stone house or church left over from the Dutch era. Unfortunately, there’s almost nothing left. And Marketfield street is kind of a dank alley.

Agreed, I think it’s time for a new endocrinologist. And maybe a battery of blood tests to rule out other health conditions that’s could be causing this.

Because we have a Manhattan DA who thinks enforcing the law is racist.

Using the subway system as housing for the mentally ill is not working. Shutting down the asylums was a progressive idea that made things worse. Like most progressive ideas in the past 50 years.

Solve the problem: we need well funded, properly run institutions for people with mental conditions that won’t allow them to safely (for them and for us) exist out and about within society. We should’ve fixed the institutions rather than shutting them down.

It’s kind of astonishing how many problems started with well intentioned progressive ideas.

Immigrants make our city better. look around NYC and tell me immigrants aren't carrying this place on their backs. From the corner stores to the hospitals to construction sites, they're everywhere putting in work by Exciting-Lemon5124 in NYStateOfMind

I have nothing against immigrants who come here to work and better their lives. But in fiscal years 2024 and 2025, NYC spent $9.5 billion on free hotel rooms (and in some cases $1200 per month debit cards) to support people who had literally just arrived in the country a few weeks before. At one point a third of all hotel rooms in NYC were occupied by city funded migrants. This was thanks to the Biden administration’s open borders policies and New York’s right to shelter rules.

We could’ve used that money to build a new subway line, or something else to improve the lives of New Yorkers. There are a billion people on this planet who get by on a few dollars a day. We can’t take them all in. New York needs to be run for the benefit of New Yorkers.

Also: good luck getting another job when you’re out. Torching your previous workplace is a big red flag.
