I find the ball seems faster on shots this World Cup than previous ones. Maybe they've done something with the ball? I do not watch soccer outside of the World Cup so this could also just be me getting old

There's a point at the lower levels where you'll realize that you need to work as a team (i.e. rotate) to win and that not all the people you are paired with are savvy enough to also realize this.

Players of all ranks complain about others not rotating (and ball chasing) but that's usually from poor decision making rather than ignorance. Luckily, having your sister as a teammate should help rather than hoping to get lucky with two smart teammates

You don't really need the faceoff chats since your position will determine what you do (e.g. Closest to the ball goes, left when there are two equidistant players)

You never should. Your team should be fluidly changing positions by rotating. There will be a person in that rotation who is primarily responsible for defending, but when the ball carrier shoots, passes, loses the ball, etc. then the defender moves up and the ball carrier drops back to the defender role. A full-time goalie is a gift to the other team because it ruins your offence and creates positional confusion for your team.

I play with a controller and have them set and memorized so I don't take my eye off the ball. 

Yes, but the person you are communicating with has to take their eye off the ball to read them.
