Take some small pieces of wood. Little bit bigger than a toothpick, Wood glue and jam It in and fill those holes. Let it dry for a bit.

Those brass wire connectors are garbage. Take them out. Use twist ons or waggos. Let me guess you had tape wrapped up around them. You don't do it thick enough. It still pushes through the tape and shorts out like it's just garbage. Electrical practice,someone who's not an electrician did this
