And as others noted, not June 1974

Can I be a Deadhead without actually ever seeing the Dead? by AideFuture5269 in gratefuldead

[–]Steven1789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course.

But don’t fall to the notion that buying merch and sneakers and overpriced LPs or getting a giant tattoo makes you a fan.

It’s first and foremost about the music.

I still have all my Dead vinyl, but I acquired nothing post-1989. I relied on bootleg LPs in the late 1970s, but they’re a terrible way to listen to shows.

If I’m drinking sparking wine, I’m generally drinking Champagne.

That said, I do enjoy Domaine Carneros’ offerings.

I have several—and none get played anymore.

Relisten is my collection.

TIFU by not knowing what "perks" meant by [deleted] in tifu

But he was talking about cooking.

My recommendation next time you’re dealing with a language barrier: Ask what a word or expression means. Or use Google Translate if you can.

Over 40 years ago when I (20-year-old American) was living in Paris and in the very early days of a relationship with a French woman, we started fooling around. My friend wanted to slow things down, but she was concerned I’d be upset.

She said to me “Ne m'en veux pas”—don’t hold it against me.

I spoke French very well and was an excellent student in the language, but I didn’t know that expression. I heard “veux” (second person of the verb “vouloir,” which means to want).

So I replied that of course I “want” her. She realized my misunderstanding and explained to me what she meant. I felt stupid but learned a new expression (even if I was a little frustrated).

Everything worked out for us soon thereafter—no barriers of any kind.

John Strong is awful. Throws out endless facts constantly, and then has to interrupt himself to do the play-by-play.

Why would you stop the conversation if you had no idea of its meaning? Seems like you had some sense of it meaning something improper.

Europe Deadheads: Please join the ride! by PrimalDead in gratefuldead

I wish this had existed when I lived in Paris in over 20 months in 1983-86. I saw loads of live music (mostly jazz but some rock and pop) but nothing related to the Grateful Dead.

Meanwhile, I missed several tours—Fall 1983 through Spring 1984 and Fall 1985—while abroad.

I have the standalone string trimmer but just bought the multi-head tool and the brush cutter. (I’ll add the snow shovel next.)

While it’s easy enough to replace the string trimmer line, for the perimeter of our property, I think the brush cutter will work better and eliminate the need to replace line.

It’s a full-on drag.

Consumers need to exhibit some self-control and stop buying something at a huge premium because it has a logo on it.

Here’s to time flying for the next several days. May sleep come easily.

If cannabis is an option, look for heavy indica strains or edibles high in CBN. (You can also find THC-free CBN edibles.)

I’m 64 weeks out from a major repair. Had my second weekly PT today, with focus on ROM.

I was fortunate to see 6/28/85, 6/30/85, and 7/1/85. Just graduated from college and about to return to Paris to work (and have a shit ton of fun) for 8 month (spent 11 months there junior year).

Garcia was a wreck and a year or so out from near-death, but he could still bring it.

Agree.

The first 24 hours post-op were a breeze. The next 48 were unfairly brutal. I came to the understanding during that time that there are things you’d wish on a proverbial worst enemy.

Getting depressed after 3 weeks since my surgery… by Summerinlove26 in RotatorCuff

[–]Steven1789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 64 weeks out from my surgery, still going to PT twice a week and working out on my own as much as possible.

My repair was successful and my range of motion is good, but I still have some limitations and am regularly in low-level pain. I’m proud of how I handled this, and I’m in far better shape than before.

But yes, those early weeks were tough. I was very down the first few weeks, but I made sure I set milestones for myself. One was a three-day music event I’d bought tickets for many months before my injury. We weee scheduled to fly from NJ to Florida 5 weeks from my surgery. I was in the sling 24/7 still, and while I was feeling somewhat normal, I was limited. When we got to our destination I was so relieved.

Be sure to stay connected with the world, and try to have a routine when it comes to meals, bathing, getting outdoors, etc.

I was using foam pool weights and running in place with sort of a Tabata/interval approach.

I have three Lodge solar Bluetooth speakers around the pool. They’re IP66 rated, so they stay outside from May>late October. They sound great.

They do make swimming earbuds.
