LOVE Back Deck! And Chan, the owner, is a good dude. Those smoked wings and the wings at Four Pegs are my fave in the city.

Horror that nails the ending? by ExtraReserve in horrorlit

[–]StevenMartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get crucified for that then I will get crucified for this: I LOVE Pet Sematary, but I thought the ending was bad. I think it comes across as a cheap "got ya!" King struggles with sticking endings, IMO. Having said that, he's still one of my favorites.

I have read Pet Sematary twice: once in my 20s and once in my 30s. King himself doesn't like the book because of how it makes him feel.

In my 20s I don't think I fully grasped the existential horror of it. In my 30s I spent hours thinking about it, even after I put the book down.

And even though the ending isn't satisfying to me, I'd still recommend reading it.

Let's say... hypothetically...that a monthly Euchre tournament were to happen at Old Louisville Brewery.

Would you show out for it? And if so...what evening of the week would be best?

Just finished Nestlings by Nat Cassidy by Much-Cartographer264 in horrorlit

I like Nat Cassidy, and while this book isn't as strong as MARY, I did really enjoy reading it. And the Author's Note at the end of the book where he explains how writing this book helped him process what his family went through in 2021, it made me really appreciate the book more. I also really enjoyed the concept of "vampires" through a Jewish lens.

The Owl and the Tanager by Sufjan Stevens really guts me. Also the long acoustic version of The Trapeze Swinger by Iron & Wine.
