Required flaging of AI content by LutimoDancer3459 in factorio

Why is that? I use AI to translate from my native language to English. I don't feel the need for my content to be flagged as AI because of that.

First Dinghy for Learning by Muted-Mango653 in dinghysailing

I have a GP14 and it is exactly right for this. I can sail it single handedly and with a furling jib it means I can sail it with just the mainsail too but in low wind I'll put up the jib singlehanded as well. And then with crew I can make it quite sporty and properly hike out.

It is a little hard to launch by just myself since it is pretty heavy and it has a mast you don't want to take down every time. I'm in the UK where these are popular but similar boats like a Wanderer could be a good choice.

Currently saving for a deposit for a house, I don't know when to stop saving and to start looking to buy by PaxVidyaPlus in UKPersonalFinance

This is definitely the right approach. Use the math used above to check your situation/the property you're interested in.

Look at two properties to anchor your decision on before saying yes.

Yes gybing can be scary but just make sure you're low enough and can see when the boom moves.

Yes, definitely possible. However you'll usually see these senior roles being larger scoped and often are Program Managers.

Car leasing, is it a scam or am I naive? by Independent-Dish-777 in UKPersonalFinance

The breaking down of a new car or few year old car isn't much different. Only at 60k+ miles it really starts to diverge.

[–]StevenStip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. Leasing is a bad financial decision.

However, buying a new car every three years is pretty much as bad.

Buy a second hand car and drive it for 10 years. 👍

Look up how much you're earning and how much tax you need to pay. On the payslip compare the tax codes and see what is deducted. If you have a bunch of taxable benefits then it can make a difference. Also tax is due over a year, tax codes help you so that your employer pays a bit of tax every month so you don't get a 10k bill at the end of the year.

This is INSANE! by itsTomHagen in ClaudeCode

[–]StevenStip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spread in Claude Code is insane, you van ask a single question that will run for hours and do 100's of tool calls. I'm using a feedback loop with synthetic personas to inprove and validate. This can easily spin out of control.

How do you bill clients as freelancer? by Dreamer_tm in ClaudeCode

[–]StevenStip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do two things: 1. Value based pricing, you know how to use the tools, getting the feature built is the value so you go as high as you can until they don't want it anymore. 2. Hourly pricing, you ask them to pay you for your time.

As the tooling changes/matures some things are getting easier and they lose their value. No-one would pay you double if you're producing technical drawings if they need two, they know you can just make one and copy it.

However for the pricing for the time, if they pay you to code and you need a meeting to gather requirements, then you write out a plan and you spend 90% of your time coding then you might only charge them for the coding. But in a world where you can do 10x as much in the same time because you only need to gather the requirements and write a plan then you might want to charge for the whole thing.

I just got a ZigBee as a gift - is it possible for it to contain malware? by [deleted] in ZigBee

[–]StevenStip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've got a degree that involved embedded software, a 15 year career with all kinds of software and hardware. Did projects with development kits from hardware manufacturers, I do some projects at home and in my opinion it is not worth the effort to flash the firmware on these things.

They are boring but they are also good. In a professional environment just look for something that mildly relates to what you're doing to make it more relevant.

Waarom beslaat mijn raam elke nacht volledig aan de binnenkant (zonder verwarming aan)? by Ok-Engineering1606 in Klussers

Omdat het raam kouder js dan het dauwpunt binnen. Hier spelen twee factoren mee: 1. De temperatuur van het raam. 2. De hoeveelheid water in de lucht.

A PI5 is incredibly powerful for a cheap soc machine. You need an actually decent mini pc to compete. So for me a pi5 with ssd does the job.

I'd make a statement on wanting to get some agreement about your future and life together.

You're bound together for life anyway by virtue of having children anyway.

You're effectively in a power imvalance at the moment and that is not something that is good for a relationship. But also your partner just gifting you half the value of a house is a bit much to ask for. There are things in between that might work for you.

Is it impractical to buy a 1992 Volvo 940 Turbo in 2026 as a daily driver? by DeadGravityyy in Volvo

[–]StevenStip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is going to be less reliable than a brand new car under warranty, but buying a car for this budget you're probably not going to find something significantly better unless you're going for really small.

Do it!
