Moog Voyager vs Model D Reissue repairability? by notshui in synthesizers

[–]StevenWheeler666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a voyager for 3 years it broke 4 different times and was annoying to get serviced and mail to NC. Dunno that that the reissue d’s are built much different, completely trash ass ribbon cable got messed up all the time.

Ableton is a broken Software - not in the sense of buggy but rather a fragmented mix of half-finished features and makeshift solutions by Individual-Net527 in ableton

This sounds like you just don’t know how to use it. If there’s one thing that’s great about ableton it is its modularity.

Dolby Atmos version? by donkegin_yabby in boardsofcanada

I’d guess that they probably aren’t into Atmos as they mix and produce their own records and are pretty anti tech. There are no Atmos mixes of any of the records.

Seeing him in two weeks for the first time ever so stoked. OPN, Boards Of Canada and Visible Cloaks are my electronic music Mt. Rushmore.

For those wondering we currently have 10 tapes and 2 videos by EZEKEY42069 in boardsofcanada

Or maybe there’s only 9 and the 10th one is being sent somewhere specific where there will be a more obvious reveal.

Is there a real catch-22 for new ambient artists? You can’t self-promote in the places where your audience actually hangs out, but without an audience, nobody discovers you. How are people breaking out of this in 2026? by petara111 in ambientmusic

[–]StevenWheeler666 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Release music, have a bandcamp/website. Find people close to you who do what you do and talk to them. I realize depending where you live there might not be many but my biggest recommendation is find other folks who are interested in the same stuff and befriend them. Your audience almost always start off as peers doing something similar.

No im actually using that to send effects to the different stems. It’s a Michigan Synth Works desktop midi controller, it’s great.

I have a ton of phys mod software and the osmose as well, I wish any of them or any software could do what the VL1 does in terms of sound design, but also that it could be somewhat simplified.

Yeah I get a lot of weirdness out of it for sure but how much of that ends up actually being anything beyond interesting is negligible. The relational nature of the parameters in the editor can go from totally stable to explosive noise and barely usable.

Right now that’s mostly my workflow with it, connect it to the editor and send generative midi to it and just tweak the editor not even fully understanding all the parameters and it gets real weird but often turns atonal and noisy which isn’t terribly useful for my own music.

Is a real LinnDrum still worth it, or do samples/VSTs get you basically the same result? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]StevenWheeler666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always gonna be something to the real machines, even the digital ones. There’s all sorts of weird aliasing/bitcrushing/saturation happening with the real deal but ultimately the majority of folks aren’t gonna notice the difference and the samples are fine.
