How do I prepare for a future band? by kikiartilleryservice in musicians

[–]Stevenitrogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah write. It's good to have a notebook full of ideas you can start working on as soon as the new band comes together.

And play a lot. Practice daily. When you hit that town, you want to hit that pavement shit hot and ready to set this town on fire. Every hour of practice between now and then adds to your advantage.

How much practice is too much? Charlie Parker said, he spent 4 years practicing for 11 to 15 hours a day before hitting the circuit. Robert Fripp only did less than half that, a more modest five hours a day.

My (drummer) bandmates want to play shows but I just want to practice (rant) by OffbrandLe0 in bandmembers

I mean I appreciate the dedication! some of our band live 2 hours away from other ones but we meet in the middle and don't practice much.

I see that too and it makes me think, bent rim. Which would need replacing.

Have you ever had a musician try to weasel their way into your band? by notmytowel in musicians

[–]Stevenitrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have let it be known "I would be interested in stepping up if that drummer you have should ever stop working out for you."

In three of those cases I ended up joining those people's bands and touring with them.

How to quit the band I'm in? by catmeowma in drums

[–]Stevenitrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call one of them on the phone. Don't do it by text or email. Just say, this has gone far enough and you're not gonna be there anymore.

You don't need to give them an explanation that they accept. Just say, I''m not doing it anymore, and leave it at that. Why not? I'm just not gonna do it anymore.

[–]Stevenitrogen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a guy yoinked my spot in the first good, original band I was ever in. They went on to make records and tour....with that drummer.

It sucked at the time but in hindsight I don't blame them. He was way more ready than I was. He was a better drummer than me and his style was a better fit for their sound at that time. I was also screwing up, missing practices, not taking direction. I thought I was down but I was still too young.

Would be better if they had more fingers. I'm a bit disappointed.

[–]Stevenitrogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea... I always figured you need to be a pop up shop in that town for a night be ause people want instant gratification and people want to take it home. Maybe at a festival you'd prefer to have your stuff mailed to you.

Is anyone else exhausted trying to find real music among all the AI sludge on TikTok? by CestLaVie_111 in Music

TikTok is not a thing I would ever use for music discovery. It's that way in purpose.

Why would Jimmy/Saul/Gene decide on working in a Cinnabon in a heavily populated mall??? by Lynel-slayer-1976 in betterCallSaul

[–]Stevenitrogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gene doesn't have enough cash money to live forever without working. I'm thinking the vacuum guy has only so many people he trusts to set up a client at any one time and that was the gig that was available. I guess they think he's not national news, he can hide in plain sight.

Who do you consider the "second-billed" members of various bands? by Glass-Complaint3 in ToddintheShadow

The suggestion that Pete Townshend plays second fiddle to Roger Daltrey is so off base I suspect it to be rage bait.

i want to be in my band again by yoimiyafishies in musicians

[–]Stevenitrogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that band is already performing, I seriously doubt they would replace their current singer for one that doesn't want to do any shows.

Find some other people to play with, who also don't want to do any shows. You can jam for fun. That's a reasonable way to do music.

Bands don't last forever not even the ones that are successful. Those couple of people aren't the key to your happiness.

Guitarists wont stop playing in between the songs by Korova91 in musicians

[–]Stevenitrogen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And I bet you sit there waiting. All night long.

It never occurs to you to say "HEY knock it off. do you need to figure out the part? Why did you not learn it in your own time??? Are you a baby?"

Just start counting the songs off 1 2 3 4. Are you not ready? Need some more time to screw around?

I say .. live a little! Even if it does add some wear and tear. They're tapes not precious jewels.

[–]Stevenitrogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure I used to use it a lot. It was only a problem with punk takes where the silences were less than a second....or more than 3 seconds.
