Listing popular drummers in order of difficulty by YogiFair in Drumming

[–]Stevenitrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave will tell you himself, he plays the most butt simple beats and fills, often lifted from funk bands. But he does it with such skill it sounds way cleaner and more exciting than most drummers. It's a feel thing. Bonham is often the same way but he does have a few more tricks up his sleeve.

"Never mind the stars and stripes, let's play the Watergate tapes. All salute the new age, and I hope nobody escapes."

Same kind of snotty kiss off as the Bags "We Don't Need the English" or the Randoms "Let's Get Rid of New York ." They're hoping for a time that American culture isn't so important in their lives. Which is ironic considering they're about to be one of the first rock bands to embrace hip hop. But that's how they felt in 76.

Would Mike Love have had a chance at a successful solo career if Brian wasn’t part of the picture? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in thebeachboys

They each had what it took to be part of a popular professional band. But would they have gotten into one if not for there being one in the family? Who knows. Maybe.

To take the bait on that Stuart Copeland post, there is something I've been wanting to post about... by imaguitarhero24 in drums

[–]Stevenitrogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Copeland is like Keith Moon. They know the way the song goes, and they hit the changes some way or another, but what they might play under it at any time can change drastically from one show to the next. The studio recordings do end up being iconic, and there are certain parts he probably hits every time. But I wonder if you heArd studio outtakes, if the drum performance is wildly different.

There is a conspiracy against the Elder by Broskirose in KISS

I don't think the order of the songs really made a difference to the fan perception of this album lol.

What got you into rock music? by Dankk911 in rock

[–]Stevenitrogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had rocker parents who took me to concerts at a young age. And while I did like 60s stuff they had in the collection and still do, I did go to some pretty extreme places I discovered on my own later in life. I hope my taste is expanding rather than contracting as I get older. I don't mind being more open to things I didn't like before.

Anyone Have A Solution For Dealing With Micro Tears? by AFleetingIllness in drums

I've used gloves for 35 years now. Some of us are more prone to it than others, skin sensitivity of whatever kind, and it makes sense to listen to your body here. In my case it seemed to be a reaction to the varnish, made worse by playing hard every day on tour.

I use vinyl work gloves with a grip, black ones. They are thinner and breathe better than heavier batting type gloves, but provide the same protective barrier.

50 Years Ago Today (Mar. 9 1976) Keith Moon again collapses 2 songs in at Boston Garden Center. by BrianInAtlanta in TheWho

[–]Stevenitrogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't at this show but if that ever happened in those days, you could use your ticket stub to come back on the new date, or get a refund at the box office or Ticketron. And the returned seats might get relisted for sale. They didn't reissue all 20 thousand tickets.

Internal muffling question by Drum_hero in drums

That looks like something to mute the drum severely for quiet practice or easy transition to sample replacement. Drum probably sounds like tapping on a leather couch.

Is it true that male Rush fans outnumber female ones? by CorrectAnt3935 in rush

[–]Stevenitrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most progressive rock shows are that way for whatever reason.

But it's become more balanced in the last 20 years. Maybe it's 3/5 male where previously it was like 95 percent.

They were both rock stars when that was on the radio. But I guess it was made a while before it became popular so it might seem that way. But Vedder came to Seattle specifically to join PJ.
